Welcome to Kalmykia, the Russia you never see. Kalmykia is only Buddhist majority region in Europe! This Russian republic (larger than the country of Latvia) is nestled in the steppes of south east Europe and is home to the Kalmyk people, of Mongol origin and primarily of Buddhist faith.
The Kalmyks emigrated across Eurasia 400 years ago, to settle in this baron land, bringing with them their unique culture and traditions.
This windy, unique and relatively unknown region is one of the most incredible we've visited, hope you enjoy an insight into beautiful Kalmykia 🇷🇺
    Would you visit? 🤗

I need to admit - they never explained us in the school how we got Buddhist region on Volga :) I have nothing against it. Diversity in a good sense. Of course my school was in Siberia. There are other Buddhist regions close to Chinese and Mongolian borders - this is completely natural.

Thanks for a perspective of Russia I didn't know existed ... being a child of the 60's (I'm 71) in America, my vision of Russia was doom, gloom and sadness. while our politics are different ... I'm happy to see life is life no matter where one lives. I've watched a number of your video so far and the one that moved me the most was the supermarket you visited .. a good selection of foods, treats and goodies. My ideas of life in Russia has changed ... Both of you should be very happy showing the world we are all connected as human beings ...Thanks! Peace!❤️

Hi there Matt and Julia, we are still binge watching you and now are only 4 months behind. We’ve just watched the Q and A session you did in the park on the orange benches. Everything that you said that day about what you wanted your videos to be have hit the nail on the head for us. We think you are so funny and laugh out loud so much. We are learning LOADS about the countries and people you visit and see things that we would never be able to access ourselves. You (both) have the most Infectious smiles and laughs and the out takes at the end are great. I’m glad to have had so many questions answered, especially about what you did before. Very interesting and thank you so much for sharing. You are both the most genuine people and I can’t think of a single thing I don’t like about your videos. I don’t know what we’ll do when we are caught up and there will only be three a week . . . . I know, we’ll go back to the beginning and watch them again ha ha
Anyway, take care, stay safe and all that xx

FYI, Kalmyks were not exiled but saved from "European values" that European Union #1 led by Nazi Germany was trying to bring to the barbarians of the East by means of tanks, motorized brigades, aircraft bombing and artillery shelling. There are not so many Kalmyks to begin with, so they might not have survived these "European values".

You shoudl know something about dictators as one gor deposted ans with it your entire country detroyed by another dictatorship - USA. Unlike your broken country and the one that rapes it, Russia is led by an elected head of state. Putin's supports poll over 70% which attests to his legitimacy, unlike unelected regimes across teh world and its victom states like Iraq. As for the statue, herpahs you should pull your rmpty head out of your own behind and smell fresh air. Kalmyks are ethnic mongols, whilst Putin is a slav, but for a depraved m0r0n like you inserting the word dictator in your diatribe and mixing with the statue only revealed your stupidity.
