This Russian republic (larger than the country of Latvia) is nestled in the steppes of south east Europe and is home to the Kalmyk people, of Mongol origin and primarily of Buddhist faith. The Kalmyks emigrated across Eurasia 400 years ago, to settle in this baron land, bringing with them their unique culture and traditions. I need to admit - they never explained us in the school how we got Buddhist region on Volga :) I have nothing against it. Diversity in a good sense. Of course my school was in Siberia. There are other Buddhist regions close to Chinese and Mongolian borders - this is completely natural.

Thanks for a perspective of Russia I didn't know existed ... being a child of the 60's (I'm 71) in America, my vision of Russia was doom, gloom and sadness. while our politics are different ... I'm happy to see life is life no matter where one lives. Everything that you said that day about what you wanted your videos to be have hit the nail on the head for us. We think you are so funny and laugh out loud so much. We are learning LOADS about the countries and people you visit and see things that we would never be able to access ourselves. Very interesting I was watching a live webcam in Fisherman’s Village in Samui Thailand and you can watch the monks in the morning collecting food and giving blessings (or that’s what I assume they are doing).

Im not sure if uve notised, but while u were explayning to us how u havent been in Tibet, u were talking English (obviosly) but the name Tibet u were sayng it in Russian. lol. Atleest thats how it sounded to me (mayby im wrong). It was just kind of interesting to me because i olso speak multiple languiges, and it happends to me often That temple was amazing . Congrats on pasing the 50k mark, though thats nothing for u 2, ull get to 10 times that much in no time. (not sure if i sad that alredy)

LOL But all joke aside, i speak Bulgarian , English and i can anderstand Russian, some German, Albanian and Turkis. ( and lets not forget those 4-5 from ex YU . haha)

Traditionally/historically Kalmyks were a nomadic herders, so, actually, no, their traditional food contains a lots of meat: beef, lamb and horse meat, as well, as dairy products.

Калмыки в годы 2-й мировой войны, в декабре 1943 были выселены в восточные районы СССР, как многие малые народы Северного Кавказа, на территории которых в 1942-1943г.находились немецкие захватчики. По пути в северно-восточные районы страны, погибло 1/3 населения, а за 13 лет депортации, всего погибло от холода, голода и болезней половина населения Калмыкии.
