Florence Speedway - Northern Allstars Super Late Models - Spring 50

Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky hosted its 48th Annual Spring 50 to open the 2024 racing season at the Northern Kentucky Speedplant. The Northern Allstars Super Late Models presented the show with 32 entries checking in. The main event saw defending Lucas Oil Late Model Series champion #20RT Ricky Thorton Jr set the pace throughout the contest. In the closing stages #157 Mike Marlar closed in alpped traffic and began to challenge for the lead but a late caution reset the field. Thorton Jr. handidly held firm to the lead and scored the victory and $10,000 payday. Marlar settled for second followed by #11R Josh Rice who had won the previous two Spring 50 events. Florence Speedway is a half-mile clay oval located near Union, Kentucky.

Since most of the cars were familiar to regular dirt late model fans, an announcer really wasn't necessary. I would much rather have no announcer than one with no clue.

There was an announcer...it was James Essex. You could hear him a little on the video.

@@robertstaley5049 an announcer is needed at every show...not everyone in the stands or watching at home is familiar with who is on the track, or what is happening.

This wasn't a production of the track, nor series. As such we're not tied into the audio. For a more in-depth video of the race Dirt2Media has a PPV channel, it's very well-produced and recommended.

Credit where credit is due, on the two days prior to the event there were soaking rains, I wasn't event sure the program would take place, given that the track conditions were better than I anticipated. On a positive note the weekly shows at Florence use pill draws and passing points to lineup the features. They have a very good regular show, I just can't get there very often.

@@RaceRumble If you are not Qualifying and running heat races you are cheating the fans. so, admission should be half price, minimum.
