I visited Ghana in 1979 to visit a friend, I was there for 2 weeks, I'm African American. The place I stayed I noticed local kids playing soccer with a busted tennis ball. I felt bad so I bought a new soccer ball for the kids and a pump for the ball, I gave the ball to a girl and the pump to a boy, the girl with the ball took the pump from the boy and ran off with the ball and the pump with the rest of the local kinds in tow. Typical woman, I have a picture of them on my face book page. This is one of my most cherished memories. Meda wo ase.

+MimiOnliine Can you talk about crime and foreigners? Renting an apartment by the week or month? I'm guessing most foreigners are in Ghana to work in finance or construction or banking, but I never see them in random videos on youtube? Where are they spending their free time? I hope you make some more videos, even interviewing foreigners/1st time visitors! Lastly, is it hard to find Crab meat served in restaurants and is it normally served hot or cold? What about bacon?
I learned my lesson using my left hand while putting food on my plate. My friend freaked! She said "Don't use your left hand that is the hand you use to wipe your butt!"

Hi, thank you for posting this lovely video! I am a speech therapist in the US, and I am evaluating a little girl whose parents are from Ghana. I'm researching about the language and culture online to make sure that I understand whether she is having trouble learning language, or whether she has a disability. Also, I want to respect their culture, and I don't want to accidentally offend her parents, so this video is really helpful! Thank you so so much!!
+Mandana Dowlatshahi Oh wow. Very interesting work that you're doing. i would also advise you to watch my other videos about culture and other. Stay tuned to more videos coming up on my channel also on the topic of disability. All the best :)
Hey, I am not sure when I will be travelling to Ghana...But, your suggestions and instructions about these things made me clear about what to expect at a basic level when I will be in Ghana...Thank you so much for posting!! Keep going...
I went to Ghana in October it was such a welcoming and humble country i wished i would have saw this video first though...lol...mosquitoes tore me up the horns were alot and i was im church 8 hrs Sunday i will return again for sure .
Thank you MimiOnliine for telling me what I need to do to prepare me for my trip to Ghana! My Ghanaian Friend has promised me a vacation to Accra Ghana and this video helps Alot! Thanks for mentioning the Misqito Spray! Ghana is a very beautiful place from what I've seen on television and Im So Excited to see it up close in person! Your Information has truly help me out a Bunch! Thank you my Ghanaian Queen!
+neo carl Hey Neo, if your left hand is injured and u can't use it, then don't go to Ghana and increase the injury by using your hand that is already injured please. As i mention on the video, the use of right hand is important, but me as a Ghanaian myself, i've been there, & have mistaken my right hand to my left one, it happens, especially cos i was born abroad, i'm still getting use to that, you will not receive any backlash, i promise lol. It's the culture but it's also respectful to not strongly impose a culture maneer for someone who is not use to it. I'm sure some Ghanaians are aware of that. I hope i've answered the comments about people asking persistently about the use of left hand, good that you ask but don't go to Ghana & put your whole attention on this, there are so many things to do in Ghana, you won't receive any backlash from using your left hand, especially if you're still not used to it. Much love- :)
This may be off topic but I've got to say this. Well done !! That's awesome. We dont see that much often. Born abroad but still you proudly refer to yourself as Ghanaian. I was born abroad and I do the same. But some Ghanaian kids born abroad always be like "my parents are from Ghana but I'm from UK..US.. etc. Nice video.

Hey! i'm not sure about spanish mexican dishes, but one thing i notice the most on my last trip to Ghana in 2012 is the amount of chinese restaurants they were in Accra as i was driving around in taxi! So, there is definitely chinese and east asian restaurants, especially in many parts of Accra! & I'm sure there may be some few restaurants that may serve Spanish food but i believe it's rare , but if there are a few, i think you're most likely to find them in the capital! (Maybe Kumasi too)

Thanks for the rules. I am left handed and my whole point of getting out of the America's is freedom, not more mind oppression even on a small scale. Hope there will be another State in the AU that can accept people for who they are not what you project them to be. The Creator made both hands the same not one better or evil than the other, but I can respect your rules for your reasons and beliefs. Peace.

My understanding of the reason behind not using the left hand in accepting something from someone or shaking someones hand is that, that is the hand that is used when we use the toilet to clean ourselves so it is deemed improper to use that hand to shake someone or accept something from people. Very simple reason. I don't know about all this slave master stuff.
Most of the world is right-handed. Even present-day Americans shake with the right hand, but Ghanaian culture seems to take it to an unreasonable extreme.
Hm.. some of the important things i've already mentioned in the video. But, i would say for every-day wear, put on what you're comfortable in? But obviously no clothes that would appear vulgar or anything. You can still look pretty and attractive dressed modestly and decently :) And i would say just be comfortable! :-)

I was in Ghana once and I seen a lady with some water bags satchets she was carrying so I SSs ... SSsss. Next thing I knew I was being chased by the woman.
Thanks for the video! My man is from Kumasi, Ghana and I want to learn all I can. Hes currently there right now which makes it so hard! Hopefully I can visit soon! Any advice? P.s. I'm like super white and I'm kind of wondering what people will think when I visit with him. Also I want to make a good impression with his parents!
You'll be surprised how many white people are there so don't worry about your race. Ghanaians are more likely to even treat you better than their fellow Ghanaians so you're even ahead in the treatment department. Just be humble around his parents and you'll be fine.
Come on Kristin, worry not sis, Ghana much adore the company of white people and foreigners than its own people, thats what they take great pleasure in. You will be certainly welcome, My grandfather was white, was a british, tanner than day light just like you, but was able to go to GH and find a voltarian, my grandmother to create a family with, He was welcomed, and so will u be welcomed. The welcoming of Foreigners from all part of the world, the hospitality, courtesy, generosity and friendliness has been a habit and second nature in Ghanians for centuries. The queen of england, queen elizabeth was very welcomed to Ghana's first independence day and even sat with the Royals of the various tribes of Ghana and the President, ate with them and everything. Foreigners are Ghana's great priority, they hold them in high esteem. I hope this helps you on your comprehension of how Ghana welcomes foreigners into the country. Thanks
Ghana's crime is not brutal .like a gun robbery , but it is very sophisticated and intelligent and there are so many thieves . Be careful with your money , because Ghana (and all Africa) is a minefield for your money.Especially if you buy a plot . Do not forget that Ghanaian hackers are on the list 10 top in the world and they are very intelligent . Better if you have family in Ghana.
awwww...we use the umbrella when it rains. the reason why u prolly didnt see much of it is because most of us dont listen to the weather forecast. but when we do, we carry one.
am a Ghanaian and am now in Switzerland. my issue is about umbrella we do use it in Ghana if its raining or is too sunny. so point of correction ...... thanks
lovelee black but left handed people still learn not to give or recieve things with their left hands .. but when the right hand is occupied you can use left hand with apology . In Nigeria , when you can't use the right hand for one reason or the other which the other person clearly sees , you simply apologise and while you go ahead and use the left . No body will kill you for using the left , but it's already a sign of disrespect! While some will tell you immedietly they are not happy with that act.
Thank you for this video. My sister's on her way to Ghana and I'll be sure she listens to this. I always looked out for Africans that come to America also. When I had my salon an African sista came to get her hair done. She began talking about things her American husband was doing. I and other clients told her about American men. She became stronger.
Nice video. But i dont agree with u on umbrella.. U can use an umbrella.. The network companies ve even popularized its use supplying vendors of phone cards. U will not be a stranger using an umbrella when its raining. U sounded nigerian at a point. But gud.. Love it..

...and oh! if you need to call a food vendor or sth, just mention the product s/he sells and s/he would turn. :)
Thank you for your input :) ...Subscribe for more vids ^^
My pleasure. :)
...I think I already did.
MimiOnliine@ thank you for the information ..im from London. im planing to go ghana 1st time ...

I was in Ghana once and I seen a lady with some water bags satchets she was carrying so I SSs ... SSsss. Next thing I knew I was being chased by the woman.
LOL for real! haha. I don't think she meant any harm. Pianki Pianki
Lol She really meant no harm , Maybe she didn't want any other water sellers to beat her to it .
She was coming to bring the water.
lol
+Pianki Pianki Lmaooo
What language should I learn going to Ghana?
Even in Canadian culture you cannot wear shoes in someone's house
Thanks
That's great
is there any paperwork involved before you move to africa?
What name is the song playing in the beginning of the video?
The culture is same for all of Africa. The left hand issue is also a problem in nigeria.
thanks for dat nice one dere
Pretty! And Informative! :-)
You have such a lovely personality! We should be friends! lol
I need a real African woman in my life...
yes is true GHANA is home
Ghana is the most peaceful .safe . cheerfuller .friendly country in Africa or may be in the world.
Hey
awwww...we use the umbrella when it rains. the reason why u prolly didnt see much of it is because most of us dont listen to the weather forecast. but when we do, we carry one.
Lilipearl I hear you! :)
Accra is loud not the whole of Ghana and umbrellas are used when its raining just that some are not prepared for the rains
love to viset ma from jamaica my tribe is akan
You should visit, you will love the place... I will visit Jamaica soon too..
nice video.. but obroni doesn't mean a FOREIGNER but it means a WHITE PERSON.. they dont call me obroni whenever i am there...
Very true
and o! we're extremely hospitable. very welcoming and the most peaceful country in Africa, if not the World
am a Ghanaian and am now in Switzerland. my issue is about umbrella we do use it in Ghana if its raining or is too sunny. so point of correction ...... thanks
some people are naturally left hand
lovelee black thanks for this information
lovelee black but left handed people still learn not to give or recieve things with their left hands .. but when the right hand is occupied you can use left hand with apology . In Nigeria , when you can't use the right hand for one reason or the other which the other person clearly sees , you simply apologise and while you go ahead and use the left . No body will kill you for using the left , but it's already a sign of disrespect! While some will tell you immedietly they are not happy with that act.
Right I am
Love this video! Thanks so much! First Ghana trip planned Spring 2016!
Did you go to Ghana?
so nice , Thk u for your tips. I am from Venezuela and I have a friend who come from Ghana and he always explain to me about Accra
You'll have lots of fun when you visit. More freedom than anywhere in the world to do anything you want.
Accra is a beautiful city, and has friendly neighbourhood
Thank you for this video. My sister's on her way to Ghana and I'll be sure she listens to this. I always looked out for Africans that come to America also. When I had my salon an African sista came to get her hair done. She began talking about things her American husband was doing. I and other clients told her about American men. She became stronger.
Hello
Nice video. But i dont agree with u on umbrella.. U can use an umbrella.. The network companies ve even popularized its use supplying vendors of phone cards. U will not be a stranger using an umbrella when its raining. U sounded nigerian at a point. But gud.. Love it..
Thank you so much for your heads up,and sharing your experience with the world.Ive learned some twi,but learning more will always help. You have beautiful accent by the way!
