That Character was a Strong Black Father Figure for me and millions of Black Boys and Young Men across the country!!!!! When he played Kunta Kunta in Roots, that was another example of Strong Black, Uncompromising Manhood under the most Inhumane Conditions!!!!! That motivated me to become a Strong Black Man!!!!! May Allah Bless And Keep The Great Man and actor John Amos!!!!! ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

Reminded me of my real dad.. Not all black children grow up without a father. My dad was super strict just like James Evan's. At 19yrs old my dad was still restricting the time of night I could get phone calls. I just recently found out that my then boyfriend, currently my husband called me after 10pm one night and my dad told him that I couldn't have phone calls after 10 and just hung up on him. The funny part is I never knew that conversation happened, never mind I was almost 20yrs old having time restrictions on the phone.

ROOTS: THE REAL FACTS. 1. He was not given the name Toby but was called Hoppin George (mabey because of losing his foot?). 2. It was probably not Kunta's daughter sold to another plantation but his granddaughter. 3. Kizzy and the doctor's niece could not have been childhood friends as the niece was a grown woman when Kizzy was born, so it was most likely Kizzy's daughter. 4. There were plenty of black people on plantations who recalled their african origins (sometimes without even knowing it-the jumping the broom custom for example). 5. As a teen, Kunta Kinte was told by a village prophet that he would oneday be world famous.

Yup. Ive liked him in everything ive seen him in. I havent seen roots though. I have a hard time watching movies with the holocoust or slavery or war in them. I mean i know all of these things are terrible but idk it gets me in the heart too hard if you know what i mean. Anyone else have that problem? Im also weird about certian horror movies although i still wanna see jordan peeles movies.

Yes, and I loved his portrayal of a strong man and he also did a guest appearance on Good Times.

It would be nice if she allowed him to speak more often. Being a good interviewer is a gift. 🙄

Alex Hailey plagiarized some portions of the book. By Harold Courlander, a 70‐yearold author from Bethesda, Md.,
He contended there were substantial similarities between “Roots” and his own earlier novel, “The African.”. What’s odd is it was settled two years after the TV show came on.
