Thanks for the video. We’ve got a Kona electric with the same… “will it charge, wont it charge?” Issues when charging overnight on the cheap rate. Good to know were not the only ones 👍

I changed the car details on the my energi account and so far it has worked flawless, may be a coincidence but it's the only thing I changed

We tried for nearly a year to get the seg 4p with British gas, octopus got in done in less than a month and now we're on the fixed outgoing 15p which took 2hrs to go live, very happy with them so far 👍

Is your charger single or 3 phase? I’m trying to find a 3 phase charger that is compatible with octopus intelligent go.

Mine is single phase 7kw but myenergi do a 3 phase 22kw charger that will work with intelligent go according to the octopus.energy/smart/intelligent-octopus-go/ there are drop downs to check compatibility with your car and charger.

Wouldn’t it be more optimal to not use the free electricity generated throughout the day to charge the EV, and instead sell back at 15p? Then charge overnight for 7.5p (providing you don’t need more charge than it can add in the off peak period).
I’m still waiting to get the 15p export tariff set up, so the config you have advised seems ideal for the period where you aren’t getting paid to export, but not once that’s running and can get 15p. Maybe I missed something! Thanks!

@@russellelam8201 Yes I've got to re learn how we use this now as we have always tried to store or use the solar, but we are limited to only 3.6 Kwh export due to the grid so in the summer we will still be producing a lot more than we can export (upto 15kwh when battery is charging) so i'll dump it in the car, but the cheaper 7.5p rate after 11:30 is great now winter is here and the heatpump is on during the night..

Thanks for the video - found it the day after going through the switch to Intelligent Octopus Go - and it seems to reflect my experience well. Question: Is it possible to change the vehicle that is onboarded? I have an e-golf and a BMWi4. I onboarded the e-golf, but now realise that its battery capacity may limit the charge I can add to the if.

I changed our zappi from the old skoda to the new car and it ironed out the main problem we were having. I think if possible it's better to let the charger be controlled by octopus rather than the car. Then decide which car you register on your charger.

Is it easy you ask? We have had all sorts of issues running our i3S with Intelligent Go. Despite passing all the tests and registering the vehicle we wake up in the morning and nothing. Octopus tell us there are some issues with BMW's, what they are I have no idea so we have for the time being setup the BMW to accept charging at the low rate and scheduled the Zappi to provide power when the schedule is met. We do have solar and battery but as I understand it on ECO+ mode the Zappi with take power from our house battery leaving us nothing for the following day. I don't think it's easy at all but I will persist. Thanks for the video, despite not resolving my issues it did help in other areas.

I've setup the zappi rather than the car and so far it's worked flawless. We did have a problem before I switched with it not charging using the excess solar but I changed the vehicle on the myenergi portal from our old car to this new one and it's been fine. Maybe try registering the charger rather than the car and see if it works better.

Interesting and useful film, thank you. Two points/questions for you, first one, I’ve been told to not use my solar power to charge the car because when you export it you get 15ppKw and charging the car at night costs 7ppKw, so if you charge it via the panels it’s costing you twice as much. My second question / point is that on the app where is says “charge to add” if your car battery is at 60% and you want it charged to 80% you only need to set the “charge to add” to 20%. If you have the app set to 80% will the car “overcharge”? Thanks.

Thanks, your right about the 15ppkw this is new for us as before we got a smart meter it was 4p so a no brainer to use solar, we have 15kw of panels a 10kw inverter and 10kw battery, on a really good day we can be putting 5kw in the battery (dc) and still have 10kw coming from the inverter but we are limited to 3.6kwh export as single phase so will have to see how best to use it.
With the battery I don't think the app or charger knows the state of charge of the car only how much it has delivered, you should be able to set a charge limit in the car so that it won't accept charge when it gets to 80%.

@ Thanks for the reply. The only reason I asked the second question was on another video I watched about setting up was that the guy plugged his car in with a battery state of 50% and had the app set to “charge to add 80%” and the schedule came out with charging at peak time for 1.30 hours and the rest overnight at the low peak rate. He had set the car to 80% (in the car). After the 1.30 charge he checked on the car and the battery was then at 70%. When he looked into it, he should have set the app to 30% “charge to add” and the whole charge could have been done overnight. It was just like you said above, Octopus doesn’t actually know the state of the charge in the car, it just knows what it needs to deliver and works out the best time to deliver the charge. I was just wondering if this has been your experience too? I’m only asking as I pick up my first EV on Saturday and will be doing this process. I currently have Octopus, solar panels and a Zappi, I’m trying to watch as many vlogs like yours to make an informed decision and learn how to set things up. Thanks again for taking the time to post.

@MarkN67 ours is a hybrid so only 25kw which is easier to squeeze in cheaper time slot, I believe but may be wrong if octopus is controlling the charge they may do it outside the time slot but it's at the lower rate still. We have had this a few times with it charging before 10pm and we haven't been charged the higher rate. Check with octopus to confirm as I could be completely wrong. Worse case is you have to adjust the amount depending on the current battery level but I set ours months ago and haven't touched it since.

Just a thought our zappi is the 7kw if you have the option would a 22kw (3 phase) be the answer?
