I'm playing around with one of these myself at the moment.
One thing I noticed on your video and several others I've watched. When comparing the loop to another antenna, the noise floor does indeed drop quite a bit on the loop. However, the peaks of signals also drops about the same amount. I don't see too much difference in the signal to noise ratio between antennas.
I think all we're seeing with a loop on the ground is simple attenuation.
    Still gathering data.

I would say you are somewhat correct. It’s like being in a crowd of people. If there is a lot of noise, the person talking to you has to talk much louder to be heard. I got a great email from someone who has taken this to the next level. I will be discussing his email in my next video.

@@OklahomaHamRadio I have noticed with my experiment that the noise profile is slightly different with the lotg. There are some noise sources that appear on the lotg that I don't see with my doublet, and vise versa.
Now, I'm on desert sand out here in western Arizona, so that undoubtedly makes a difference compared to moister soils back East too.
It's been an interesting experiment. I hope to have my vid out by the weekend.

@@loughkb I look forward to watching your video. It will be interesting to see how this antenna works with different soil types. I think it is also what each persons ear picks up. I don't do voice much because the noise on HF bothers my ears and distracts me. Maybe some ADHD or sensory issues or something. In any event, I will be watching. It is always interesting to see what others are doing. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for this video. I did make one of these this week and am very impressed with the great improvement in Signal-to-Noise ratio on some, not all, signals. Have to play with it some more to see if I can predict which types of signals will benefit. I do note that while absolute signal strength is quite a bit down on this antenna, some signals are much easier to hear due to the even lower noise floor. I did make a 3d printed housing for my matching transformer and can certainly share the STL file with anyone who wants to make a 3d printed housing.

Short skip vs. long skip is an interesting observation...different stations on different antennas.

    Hi David,
Interesting antenna. I do have one more open port on my 5 position manual antenna switch. May give it a try to see how it might help in my location in a suburb of Philadelphia. You and the family stay safe. WJ3U

The way I look at this antenna is that it is so cheap and easy to do, along with being hidden that there was no reason not to give it a shot. It sure made listening a lot easier on the ears. Thanks for watching Don! Always a pleasure to hear from you.

How is mowing around it? I use a riding lawn mower with the deck set low. Do you mow right over it?

Once staked to the ground, the grass grows over the wire and pulls the wire down to the dirt.
I had a robotic lawn mower that used a perimeter wire that was staked to the ground. It never got cut. I also had ground radials for the vertical antenna that were staked to the ground through my back yard. I never had a problem with mowing.
Mow the area, then stake down the antenna, then by the next mow, the antenna will be pulled down so that the mower won’t catch the wire.
      Thanks

Keep at it. Getting the noise down is worthwhile. KE5TJ
