Tried the Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt just now and it works! Using the USB-C Dragontail to connect and it drives a pair of Focal Clear very well. Didn’t see this documented anywhere. And yes I love the cassette screensaver!

@@TUXXREVIEWS that’s the one. The device comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable that connects the Sony Walkman to the Audioquest Dragonfly and the Android ask permission to use the device and the outboard DAC thus powering harder to drive headphones.
I like when I hear musicians talking to each other during a recording. I don't expect it and I turn my head expecting there to be someone talking to me and then I realize it's the song I've been listening to my whole life. =D
Its amazing whats in the recordings but just missing it due to so -so quality MP3, playback hardware or headphones etc.

Firstly I like you review style, so thank you for that 😊 2 questions...1. Can you access the developer options like you can on a regular android phone, as this would give you volume override? ...2. I use a Samsung phone which has the "adapt sound " feature which compensates for hearing loss . If you were to load something like Neutralizer from the app store, will the player alow it to modify the output. Many thanks. Si.

One thing I like about iPods is that you can set the volume of each individual track via i tunes so that they all play at the same volume. Can that be done on this device? I hate it when I create a playlist and they songs play at different volume levels

Hey, I don’t have Apple Music and Tidal, don’t like them at all and can’t even use Tidal because it’s not in my country yet. I want the highest music quality, do I have to download songs from my laptop and then transfer to the Walkman? What will happen if I use Spotify because it only has 320 kpbs has the highest quality and I want the MHz one. Please help!
How is the mp3 management experience? I had an nwzx300 for several years and ditched it because Sony doesn't offer a music center app for Mac and i could never figure out which id3 tags to use

Fyi, you can just turn WiFi off by using the drop down menu from any screen, & clicking WiFi, no need to go into settings.

Hi it says on the website it does music streaming. I used to have deezer hifi and never had any complaints but since they increased their subscription fee, I found it a bit steep for something I use maybe once or twice a week so I switched to Spotify. Can I use spotify with this device? Will it improve the sound quality? Spotify sounds awfuI. if not does sony have their own platform where I can download music? I listen mostly in my car with a decent sound set up. Sony xav 8050d head unit paired with focal k2 seps and subs powered by cresendo amps. Thank you!
I havent downloaded spotiify but its an andriod device so it should be easy from google play store (just like a phone).

Yes I know that but my laptop had low space until I deleted things and plus should I download the music transfering application for it to see if it still works for it until I can reformat the mp3 because the Sony NW-A306 Walkman 32GB Hi-Res Portable music player has way to much space on it

While it really depends on the source music file I would say it leans bright. That’s not to say the bass isn’t awesome, it is. Also it produces a great warm bass sound not just in larger headphones but in IEMs too. I never thought to myself "this needs more bass", its perfect. The clarity and separation of individual instruments / sounds is outstanding. I'm looking into testing a new pair of headphones (or IEMs) Weighing out all the pros and cons of each and various price points. Leaning to buying sony to match. I wish Sony made the choice simpler with a pre-matched NWA306 headphones. So many decisions but leaning towards IEMs for ease in travel.

Owning sony walkman zx1 - fiio X3 - sony walkman X with Shure se535 and they all warm sources .. i think A300 would be a nice addition for me ... Just waiting for Sony to solve the issue or even responde to the bass roll of for some units : clarification - software update to solve .. then will pull the trigger

Nice video, bro. One query, could you tell me what is inside the *MUSIC* folder in *Internal Shared Storage* other than the 3 sample musics found there please? I think I deleted an extremely important file or PDF by accident and would like to recover it. Thanks.
Mine just has music. I also have a music folder on the flash memory card. Its interesting it can see both at the same time. If you messed yours up reformating should fix back to stock.
I did, I formatted it following the steps in the help guide and I even noticed a message saying: *"Be careful not to delete important data"*. And maybe by *important data* it mean that file or PDF that I deleted. I have a theory that such files cannot be restored after formatting.

I havent personally tested those headphones on this device but I do have the new Sony WX-1005 on the way and will have some videos on the two together. Now I would suggest a wired connection for best HD results. I use my surfans IEM with the NW-A306 Heres the spcs

@TUXXREVIEWS yeah got it today and tried it and nope, nothing. On another note, I have disabled almost everything and I'm only getting about 4-5 hours, wired sennheiser momentum 4 with poweramp and volume on 115. What's the deal with the battery life?? I'm getting nowhere near 36 hours???
I had the previous iteration, the a106, its great BUT battery was horrible. I ended up reverting back to the a55, which do not have android, so the battery life is actually doubled. I listen at high vol, and the DSP is turned on, playing a mix of high res flac, wav and mp3. For those who do not listen to streaming music, dnt bother with Walkmans with android, just get the simpler a55.
yes i have a sony wh-1000xm3 and even if you just rip you cds as flac the quality is way better than a lossy aac or mp3 codec. i definetly hear the difference on an high res player. so everone who wanna hear music in cd quality and better need a high res player. A smarphone or mp3 player has a DAC that is not made for high res. for example the dac in an iphone is able to decode in cd quality, so you cant even hear/listen to high res on it. it plays it but it doesnt decode it properly.
We seem on the same page, I agree an iphone (or samsung) can't play at the same quality of a Sony NW-A306. Two phones - Sony and Asus ROG can but still better to have a real player for high res HD Audio.
I just ordered my player today, i have the old generation ( nw 106) , which the battery is really painfull ( thats why some viewers are asking you about the battery), but i agree with everything you said. These Sony hi res are amazing, the sound its untouchable, never liked to listen music on phones because the sound its poor. I hear sounds in some songs that ive never heard before , thats the point of music. You have great taste in music, i grew up on those bands from the 90's - 2000's.
Be careful with the volume, 120 is dangerous, i stop around 70-80.

@TUXX REVIEWS did they make the music app podcast friendly finally? What I mean is if you listen to an audiobook or podcast and then decide to stop it and listen to another file podcast or music and or close the player, when you get back to the podcast or audiobook does it bookmark and remember where you stopped. I know that the Omnia app can do it and of course apple iphone can do it.

Sorry no, just music files on your NW-A306. I havent tested downloading a music files from a streaming service but that should work, just not actual streamd misic

Hi tuxx, my a306 can play downloaded tidal music in the app only-and thus the Walkman cannot recognize the tidal app when I search for it in the library- resulting to not being able to see the cassette screensaver. is there any workaround so I can see the casette screensaver while playing tidal app music offline or streaming? Many thanks.
I use to use reel to reel cassettes . Wish it had that for a screen saver.

What is your definition of HD music?
96 or 192 kHz sample rates but not all music files are the same. You can bake a cake with the finest of ingredientss but it doesnt mean you cant burn it if cooked too long. The band "The Police" have a classic hit album called synchronicity but even the Tidal version is not as good sounding as it should. This player can show the quality of a music file and I love this.
I just got my sony nw-a306, one big issue I have with the device and NONE of the reviewers mentioned the battery life of the device is sooo bad. I'm not even talking when listening to music. Even when just doing nothing. Basically I have to turn battery saver management, put the screen to 20%, switch off wifi, and switch off locations. I'm only using it to play my stored flacs music collections so I don't need those features or even streaming.
I use mine for music, thats the entire point. Im sure if I downloaded pokemongo and then hooked to wifi That would burn batteries faster but the most I do on wifi is tital. I may do a video just on batteries later.
@TUXX REVIEWS I know that. I am also the same. I don't install or even use for other purposes other than playing flac files. As I said before if anyone doesn't know how to tweak this device they will also think the battery drain very quick even by doing nothing or playing music. Switching off the wifi and especially the locations help big time. Another thing is probably if you don't use it, just shut it down completely. The boot time though is quite slow.
I may compare boot times in a future video. I think the tiny buttons may be part of the issue.
I agree, I highly doubt there's truly a 3300mah battery inside.
Even my old Note 8, with the supposed same battery capacity and more than 6 years of wear, a way bigger, higher res display, and a less efficient processor, got better battery life than my brand new NW-A306.
