Pun had one of the shortest, yet most influential careers in the game. Dude was INCREDIBLE.
Big L too though. Never start your name with Big as a rapper, it’s a risk
@@royalrandomness777 the big curse lol we also got the lil curse. Except those live, they just mostly whack 😅
@@LynxStarAuto true, the “Lil” should have stopped after Lil Fame. Mash Out Posse 4 life 👊🏻
@@royalrandomness777 Biggie too
100%. Dude was basically a prolific poet/lyricist.
Big Pun is so lyrical and was way ahead of the game.
Big Pun, Pig L, Em are the shit
Also check out John Blaze!!
To me he's light years ahead of biggie
You can see how much of his style em took, early underground em
People always talk about Puns flow but thats not even why he was great. His lyrical prowess was top top top tier
*Big Pun's 1st album is a certified classic. The 1st Latino rapper to ever go platinum at that time.*
Ever heard of Cypress Hill
Pun is our Puerto Rican biggie. They were good friends. Joe legend too! 🦾🇵🇷🇵🇷
This song is so timeless. They both slaughtered the beat
Capital Punishment is top 5 album all time and nobody had a greater natural gift to create multiple syllable rhyme schemes than Pun. The man is a legend. Very few people were rapping like this in 1998.
Facts
Big Pun was nuts for back then especially
KOOL G RAP
@@IronMikeDyson1979 as an old hip hop head Kool G was the only name that came to mind before I seen this comment with his triple rymhes, which has made him an Icon in his own for that. For which he is recognized for. So many different elements to hip hop which is why I think its 1 of the most if not the most influential kind of music. It has all the elements and it naturally moves your physical and metal and not every genre has that ability.
@@johnzielke9674 RA the rugged man is also up there.
Bro. I feel bad for those of us who didn’t grow up on 90s r&b + hip-hop. Definitely the golden era.
THANK YOU!
this. can't imagine growing up thinking lil nas x or travis scott is the best thing ever....
I wouldn't be a fan of hip hop if I grew up in this era (meaning now)
Sorry to say but yup, it's all now gone down the shitter... 🤮
Imagine thinking you’re a hip hop head and not knowing any 90s shit
PUN WAS LEGENDARY. WAS NICE AT BASKETBALL AND EVERYTHING. FEW THINGS CAUSED HIS WEIGHT GAIN.. HE HAD GOT INJURED AND STARTED TO GAIN WEIGHT.. ALONG WITH DEPRESSION AND STRESS CAUSED ALOT OF IT. HIS IMPACT ON HIPHOP AND HIS CULTURAL IMPACT ON LATINS IN THE MUSIC GAME CAN STILL BE FELT TODAY. REST IN PEACE BIG P!
He said he started getting money and wasn't broke anymore and could eat and he got addicted to eating
This song is a homage to so much hip-hop culture, East coast, west coast, famous lines and cadences to other classic songs. Plus it's Pun and Joe. Like this is on my top 25 songs you should listen to if you are a fan of hip-hop
187 is the code for murder. The original song with this beat called "Deep Cover" was done by Dr.Dre and Snoop in the early 90s
Facts it a 187 on a MF cop hard ass song
for cali though
Facts
It was for a movie called "Deep Cover" starring Lawrence Fishburn
I give them a pass they are young lol
The beat is from “Deep Cover” by Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg. That’s the original song.
Love seeing the youngins getting into Big Pun… he was a lyrical killer… died way to young but made a lasting impact … he was also the FIRST Puerto Rican rapper to earn $1 million for a record… he really rocked with errybody from east, west, south it didn’t matter he loved the game….
I'm 43 yrs old and I love how you all are breaking down our era of hip hop!!!!! It's priceless to hear those younger than me enjoy it!!!!!
Big Pun - You aint a killer.
That's one of my favourite instrumentals ever..+ Pun lyrically slaughtered it.🔥🔥🔥
You still learning how to walk from New York to Cali all my real homies carry chalk
I'm still playing that song!
One of my fav songs of all time !!!
That and Dream Shatterer. That nigga goes in on that song.
Crazy to think how many songs he made for a more mainstream appeal and he really could have gone crazy for decades
That beat is from Snoop Dogg's very first song... A 187 is the police code for murder...
Snoop even calls him in the video.
love watching these guys react to these classic songs, and legendary rappers!
Big Pun is a legend in the BX and was one of the nicest ever. Ahead of his time and they played fire water the first time pun's part blew peoples minds. You need to run his entire capital punishment from 1998. Lyrical insane
Definitely need to do that album.
These dudes talk too much
I don't understand how hip hop fans can't have heard Pun, or even this song. And then completely overlook the Dead in the Middle Italy line first time round. Maybe it's a generational thing. Hearing Pun's G Rap style is one if the greatest things in hip hop.
Glad somebody said it lol
It totally went over their heads, but hey what can you expect with this generation.
They should make they own album😆 sounds like one of them was bout to drop something😉
Yeah they weren’t ready for the Dead in the Middle of Little Italy line, but then again who was the first time they heard this? 😂
Two Puerto Rican legends! Pun was one of the most lyrically incredible artists of the 90’s point blank
Crack isn't puerto rican....
@@dljames02 he’s Puerto Rican and Cuban.
@@alexmartinez7177 ok thanks 4 the correction
@@dljames02 so he Puerto Rican and Cuban why u say he's not Rican then right after say he's Rican
It’s dope how listening to a hip hop classic got these young bros researching US amendments ! 💪🏾🙌🏾
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
187 is code for murder! It used to be used in a lot of rap songs, back in my day. It's cop code, criminal justice code for a murder. So, the rappers/others who used it, were basically saying, “I'm going to talk to you on YOUR terms. I'm going to use your speech against you!" Which, was really cool!! It was another form of wordplay, really. As well as being a social statement against racist cops, and against cops criminalizing the things that people, minorities in particular, had to do in order to survive, because lack of fair opportunities. It was a very powerful thing!!! I hadn't watched one of your videos in a while, and it's good to see that y'all are still as crazy as ever!! Of course, I love seeing people get into music from different eras, it really widens your musical experience!! A lot of my favorite music is from other areas of music, ages, etc than many would think, and it really enriches my life in many ways!! But, having been born in the early 80s, I'll always love the music from the 90s and 2000s, in particular! Not to say that some of my favorite bands, songs, artist, etc. aren't from before or after then, but I just have a soft spot for the music from that time, in general. Our rap was really at it's apex, it's prime, though, lmao!! Thus far, anyway!! Not to say the newer rap hasn't brought some good shit to the game too, because it has..... In fits and starts, lol!! A few of today's artist are some of my all-time favs too. I'm open to try almost any music!!! My limit is at purposeful hateful speech, without a good reason!! I go from mellow to “thrashasus" 🤣, that's what a Cousin of mine termed my core taste in music!! What can I say? I love a lot of hardcore music!!
Take Care of Yourselves,
Amanda Heath
"187 on an undercover cop" was used in this song particularly as a reference to the original Dre and Snoops "187 on an undercover cop". They used that beat in this song.
The 187th day = July 08 > July 08 2022 = Georgia Guidestones , zap
Its also a movie with Samuel L Jackson
"John Blaze"
🔥🔥🔥
BIG Pun feat. Nas, Raekwon, Fat Joe, & Jadakiss
I agree
It’s actually a FAT JOE song.
This just popped up after UA-cam recommended this song’s short to me! I watched the clip several times. I decided to look up the full song and I’m mindblown! 😂😂😂 An hour later YT recommends you guys!! 😂😂😂
Big Pun and Black Thought...Super Lyrical
Grew up listening to Pun, he is one of the greatest lyricists of all time, peep "Dream Shatterer" with the lyrics on screen... he was on another level for back in the day.
I recommended Dream Shatterer to them as well, I hope they do it.
He's on another level period, any era
Aww this is cute lol the lil kids who werent ready for this epic at the time💖💗
Great breakdown guys .
Great show.
Finally got Big Pun.💯
Dream Shatterer by Big Pun really shows off his skills. He goes hard.
Been requesting this for so long 🙌
I've been subscribed for 1 year. Love watching you guys dive into meanings and ideas of the song. Art is beautiful that way.... you can have many different perspectives be " right".
Big Pun- Capital Punishment is one of the greatest New York hip hop albums of all time. The entire thing is straight 🔥
Fun fact that whole "dead in the middle of Italy" scheme was originally just a vocal technique Pun used to get himself hyped and as a template before he would start crafting his verses. Joe heard him do it during a recording session and told Pun he should put that on a track
PUn is considered one of the BEST.. no commercial crap, no gimicks, just a lyrical monstah.. a TRUE lyrical monstah.
Blueberry Yum Yum - Ludacris.... Great tune... Great flow...
Big Pun, Off with your head!! Please and thank you! This track is too HARD!! 🔥✌🍻
Hell yeah, the beat is so unique. Off with your head!
The "dead in the middle of little italy" line is widely regarded as one of the best bars ever recorded in hiphop
-Edit: also 187 is the police radio code for homicide or murder. so he's referring to killing undercover police officers.
That little Italy line was a tribute to Kool G Rap who originally did that rhyme scheme. When Pun met Kool G Rap Pun got down on one knee and kissed G Rap's ring. Pun was one of the greatest to ever do it.
@@antwanwilliamsAkrimoneyAkiApac Lmao, that's full cap. Kool G Rap never did that rhyme scheme lol
@@Helldog6 Kool G does rhyme schemes like that quite often
@@TripSe7en_77 He does multi's and shit, but the Little Italy scheme is 100% Big Pun. So IDK how that scheme in particular would be "paying respect", but all the other multi's wouldn't be?
It just sounds like homie's trying to shine on Kool G by giving him credit for one of Pun's most famous bars.
@@Helldog6 Kool G didn't spit that exact bar, but he flowed like that on the regular. Kind of was his gimmick.
I dunno about the kissing the ring thing tho 😅
This was a dope reaction video RIP PUN
these boys young!!! great seeing them discover Big PUn!!
Big L ‘98 freestyle is 🔥
Big pun is legendary in the Hispanic community. He is the only Hispanic rap artist to get platinum on his album. If you like this track you would like dream shatterer, tres leches(triboro trilogy) and also super lyrical
Also Beware
Capital Punishment
Well hes the first latino SOLO artist to go platinum. Cypress hill went platinum way before pun so i think they were the first.
Legendary in hip-hop period
He was the FIRST hispanic to go platinum
Love what u dudes are doing, just wish y’all had a 30+ person in the room every now and then to be y’all fact checker or the dude who gives y’all the back story to the songs or athletes y’all watching and listening to, nonetheless a group of young black men studying their culture instead of running the streets makes me absolutely proud 💪🏾💪🏾
That is exactly what they need
Shoutout to ya'll for checking this. Mad respect for that. Puerto Ricans from NY appreciate it.....
187 is the California penal code for murder. So that beat and line was from a dr Dre song with snoop dogg called deep cover, also the song from the movie deep cover.
Big L - 98' freestyle! One of the greatest
THE greatest
The 🐐
This man aint ever got his flowers. Im glad yall checked it. ❤hits home for someone that grew up on his music..bomb!
love big pun this got me excited fr
This beat was originally from the movie Deep Cover and was the first ever si gle released on Death Row Records by Snoop and Dr Dre.
Listen to 'Let The Games Begin' - Fat Joe,Big Pun and Mack 10..such a BANGER!
LOVE THE CONTENT FELLAS..keep doing ya thing!
Im glad to see some men broadening their musical horizons. Might I add some old flare to your suggestion box?
Bloodstone-natural high or blue magic-side show. I’d like to see what you think.
Love this page !!
"Dream Shatterer"!!! Listen to that one!
The whole Capital Punishment is literally a masterpiece! Bring more of these reactions and see the real rap assassin of the game!
Big Pun was so far ahead of his time. Still to this day one of the most lyrical rappers
BIG PUN HAD THE WHOLE GAME IN THEIR P’s AND Q’s lyrically
Brave in the heart, dreamshatter or you ain’t a killer…all fire songs. Y’all should do one of those
The 90's was Art of music...💥❤🤙
Pun is one of the gratest rapper of all time 🐐🐐🔥🔥🔥
The BEST❤👌
Just love the fact these young cats are exploring classic hip hop
Big Pun - Beware
Super Lyrical with Big Pun and Black thought is what I would do next
I love that Big Pun got y'all looking up your rights!!! Big Pun still affecting lives. 👊🏽❤
Bro who ever suggested pun and I stumbled on this ….. pun is Latin goat and love how these dudes vibe hard
Pun's wife said he suffered from depression and would eat when he was stressed. He was steadily gaining weight throughout his time rapping. He passed right before an album dropped and had a single called "It's so Hard." The video featured a lot of musicians as he passed before it was released
Yh probably from his fucked up childhood
The weight gain stemmed from pills he had to take from an injury he received. Those pills caused him to weight gain
FINALLY. This has my fave rap bar of all time with punishment "dead in the middle of little italy/ little did we know that we riddled two middle men who didn't do diddly/"
Wow can’t imaging people (grown men) hearing this classic I grew up with for the 1st time so recently.
Yo this was that jam for decades
The whole Big Pun Capital Punishment album is straight fire. I grew up on this album.
Do more Big Pun, he was a lyrical beast.
I'm from the Bronx. I was there during puns era You kids broke this down in such expert fashion. The fact that y'all was interested in the lirics. Blew me back. U thought for a munite no kid cared too bother too even check Good fucking shit y'all
These cats are adorable, in a good way. Not knowing certain things I grew up in, the slang, nor that the beat was from Dre and Snoop. You dudes are cool. You keep it real to your perspective. All love
BIG PUN - BEWARE !!!
Come on maneee!!
You guys gotta listen to more Big Pun for sure. One of the absolute best!
Big Pun - funny, funny love
Caribbean connection and boomerang are bangers
pun was a boxer he know how to move, he chased Jay-Z with a Uzi for some smart stuff he done. everyone respected Pun.
RIP Pun, one of the most lyrical Puertorican artist who lived, man no cap. Ya'll deff gotta look into his music library, he has hella hits. Keep doing ya thing though and repping for the minorities out here. Peace and love.
Big Pun,was that Boricua 🇵🇷 beast...
As a teacher, I appreciate yall going through those amendments lol
Ya'll breezed right through how Pun entered that verse, you guys try rhyming that, it took me damn near 20 listens 20 years ago to get that shit down, its crazy he was only active a few years and he was one of the greatest to ever do it, if you want more Pun juat listen to his album CAPITAL PUNISHMENT its all 🔥🔥🔥
It’s over their heads…rap too stupid these days.
Capital Punishment check out "Super lyrical" with Big Pun and Black Thought. Yes the same Black Thought of the 10 min Funk Flex freestyle.
He went crazy on fat Joe's album "Don Cartegena" and the first terror squad album too. Pun was INCREDIBLE
I give them props for actually sittin down to dissect this Rap God Big Pun!!! But that Era of Hip hop is something you youngins wont understand.... this generation doesnt pay respect to those who paved the way, our Era still gives respect to those who came before the 90's Hip Hop.... keep studying young G's and do give respect to those who came before this new generation of hip hop. #Respect
Also take their freedom for granted. Running through the streets back in the day, you had to know how to play the legal game.
Big Pun - Super Lyrical🔥🔥🔥word play, bars, flow, rhyme scheme, metaphors
I don’t believe that you lit that legendary part of big pun slide like that 🫠
Seeing you react to these hip hop legends for the first time brings me back bruuhhh 🔥 🔥🔥 187 is cop code for murder in California, nothing to do with licence plates yez hams
More Big Pun to check out (do lyrics videos, music videos are heavily edited): "Im not a player" and "Im still not a player" together to show how he could appeal to the females AND the guys at the same time.
"You came up", "Boomerang", "Beware" are others that show off his diversity in lyrics, flow and beats - but he has a whole catalog of hip hop gems.
He was the first Latino rapper to go platinum. Big Pun and Terror Squad were no joke.
Pun mighta spit the hardest verse ever. So glad y’all did this track 🔥🔥🔥
Man 90s new york hip hop is still goat to this day. So many good lyricist in one city at one time. Crazy shit
@Cartier fam, “you ain’t a killer” is Big Pun, check it , straight gangster ish right there! ✌🏽 from BROOKLYN , NY 1
Big pun beware is his best song 🔥 🔥 🔥
One of the best hip hop songs ever made.
Drill the nerves in your cavity filling 💀💀💀 this man's mind is just different 🔥
Gotta watch this official video
Bewere by BIG PUN is even better then this
Ludacris Southern Hospitality is a good one.
Dead of middle Italy....do you know how hard that line is ??! Lol at that time in NY? Lol, wolf of wall St? Jonah hill couldn't even pull out his phone!! 🤣🤣
I love seeing people hear this for the first time. In my top 10
In my opinion, Big Pun is the one person that can go head to head with Em in terms of technical skill. He was WAY ahead of his time. If he was still rapping to this day he'd be a cheat code just like Em.
Hell yeah man. Pun and Em just have that other level
An Eminem and Pun song would of been a masterpiece
Agreed. Nobody is in their class when it comes to the mixture of raw spitting ability and having something clever to actually say simultaneously.
Yup @ ferox
@@hammelgohardyou've clearly not paid much attention to Nas then.
Been waiting for y’all to listen to Pun! 🔥
💯💯💯💯💯💯RIP PUN
Pun so next level he had yall looking up the bill of rights 😭 , yall should do Big Pun - Beware or Fat Joe, Nas , Raekwon , Big Pun and Jadakiss - John Blaze
It’s crazy how cats was rapping like this back then and where we are now is something I could of never predicted
Oh, I forgot to add in my previous comment, I love how y'all really get into what the lyrics are about! You look up stuff, you discuss it, you can argue about it, disagree, whatever! I also like how into the song you all get when it's hype, too! I hadn't heard this one in a very long time, I forgot what a lot of it was about actually about, until I heard it again. So, it's not only you guys listening to the song for first time, and letting us old heads know what you think. Sometimes, we also get to relive the song, or remember the moments we may have forgotten through the song!! So, thanks for that too!!
I second this
