- Lyrics video for Black Raven from Chernobyl S1E4. English and Russian lyrics on screen. This song Чёрный ворон (Black Raven) is a haunting folk song from Russia. So far it seems this rendition of the song was sung by Alexej Manvelov, the actor who plays Garo.

Black raven
Why do you circle over me?
You won't have your prey,
Black raven, I'm not yours!
You won't have your prey,
Black raven, I'm not yours!
Black raven
Why do you circle over me?
You won't have your prey,
Black raven, I'm not yours!
You won't have your prey,

"Damn, if only somebody would help"
I might have to go back to rostok and check that out by my self.
bruh I would be happy if they new stalker game has this soundtrack
What where how ? That game still kicks my ass harder then life ❤
The full poem is far more macabre. The raven collects the ring from the dying soldier (as ravens are want to keep shiny things). The raven flies home to where the dead soldier's wife lives. She sees the ring the raven carries and interprets the omen correctly that her husband has died in a battle against foreign invasion. If I recall correctly, the poem has the meat of the soldier's finger still bound by the ring. Tis indeed a dirge so grim it'll make the listener Bless themselves right shoulder before left.
Thanks bro ❤
One of best short series ever...
Look for the full lyrics. In the end, he surrenders to the black crow. Here is not happy end song
Yes, because it is sung as if from the face of a warrior who is dying on the battlefield, and a raven is circling above him, he is waiting for him to die
To me at least it’s a happy song. Not happy but bittersweet to a degree. Particularly the lyrics where he accepts it and asks it to tell his sweetheart to move on, it’s not happy but in the end he at least accepts it and is at peace thinking of better things.
This song sounds like a dark lullaby.
It’s sad and kinda creepy, but at the same time somewhat soothing.
I speak no Russian but this sends chills down my spine and the thoughts of cold wartime nights with the call of the raven echoing across empty black streets. Truly a beautiful and chilling song.
I recommend to watch the Chernobyl series if you did not see them. The music from there.
Make your self ready for the pure sadness.
This song send a chill down my spine evverytime it is very sad, especially after THAT scene in Chernobyl
That scene legit made me tear up when the soldiers were forced to execute the pets left behind and bury them in cement to prevent more radiation from spreading. I read that when the residents were evacuated from Pripyat, they were told that they would be back in three days and to only take clothes and important documents. Little did they know that three days was going to be never again. I saw a documentary years ago and there was a little girl who tried to take her cat on the bus but the soldiers took it from her arms and threw it to the side of the road. I work as a volunteer in a cat shelter and I form close bonds to these cats. The thought of being told I can't take my potential future cat with me anywhere rips my heart in half. When my ex dumped me, I cried more over his cats and didn't shed a tear for him. They were my babies.
@@CourtneyLachiverthe pet killing scenes really broke me, but I found comfort with the “leader” soldier really emphasizes not to make them suffer, he even gets furious when the boy gut shots a dog and hesitates for a moment. He does kill pets, but he acknowledges that they were once part of somebody’s family and deserve a painless end
When I first heard this song I didn't know what the lyrics meant so I imagined it was about a young boy who was forced to grow up and leave his careless childhood behind him as he was sent to war. Each of of his firends over the course of a few months died, one after the other and he slowly lost himself until he was shot dead and finally allowed to rest. Then the person narrating it started to talk about what a waste of a life it was to send him to war.
Jesus that's depressing
Wow that's edgy af pussydestroyer
Temuulen Och yeah black raven is a metaphor for death
Yes, this song is about death and war, but not about wasting the life
Or you could have just googled the lyrics.
A bonus upload this week! Couldn't resist making a video for this haunting song
Common Sense-I’m hearing the actor who played Garo sung this...can u confirm? I need this on my playlist...BAAAADDDDD
@@dreghaertargaryen1671 It seems true, but it hasn't been confirmed by any official sources. So far the song hasn't been uploaded to spotify or itunes either - if you are really searching for it though, you could try listening to versions sung by different artists. Because it's an old russian folk song there are lots of artists who have sung their own rendition of the song out there:
Type "Чёрный ворон" in itunes or spotify and you'll probably be able to get your hands on a cover version. I will also update you if and when the Chernobyl version gets released
I have listened too others...not great not terrible lol...but none have the same effect...this rendition of it married to the scene the madness of Chernobyl...
guys help me ı can't find in spotify pls help
Thank you so much!!
This song reminds me about the russian somdiers during ww2 he was a german soldier from 39-45 .He said that the russians had a very strange melancoly they knew they were canon fooder but yet fron time to time they refused to lie down and even thier corpses seemed to follow them with thier eyes as if they knew the germans would join them sooner than later.

Dang, I decided to learn Russian and _then_ found this song. Very influential song it seems.

Yeah it’s interesting how fast you can learn it, and if you’re Slavic you can learn to read cyrilic on your way from the Moskva central station to your hotel.

This song is chill at night
There is no black raven, because its not there.
This comment is so underrated, it deserves more likes.

Listening to this makes me feel as if I’m on a boat trip and am about to sail into Cthulhu’s lair
Like in final scene of Deadman movie///
3 years old but still one of my favourite song. Very sad.
This threw an image into my head of a person being executed for some reason
snakey boi
Not a person.
Just hundreds of scared, abandoned animals.
In a manner of speaking, yes you are absolutely right.
This is a song of a soldier dying after a battle. As he is close to death, crows are flying over his head. And the song is addressed to the crow
@@user-lg1kd6zh5v more like a soldier leaving a battle not knowing if he's really alive or dead.
@@anothernumber9753 I always took it to be more literal than that (he knows he’s dying), as it mentions a bloodied shawl and the fact that he has been hit by an arrow. Then again, I’m not a native speaker.
I'm gonna learn how to sing this, just in case 2022 spirals out of control
Iv been looking every where for this
reminds me of Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones :3
maybe that's why i like both
Both songs are somber n haunting...”their was nothing sane about Chernobyl”...MADNESS
omg what a parallel you're so right!
Wow you have an amazing ear...
It’s the Russian version
This is beautiful
Fun fact, Alexej Manvelov, who played Garo in this episode (Ep 4 obvs) is the one singing this song. Out of all the cast, Manvelov is also one of the only actors who is actually Slavic. He was born in Sweden, but both his parents are Russian.
I love this song for some reason off the movie. Seems like a song at a funeral though that makes everyone reminisce.
I remember when my grandfather say when I was at chernobyl when at the same night we hear a big explosion and after 10 day your grandmother passed away
my condolences 💐
Damn this song is dark and depressing given the present context

Hello
Greatest series 👏👏👏👏
Rhytm is like a lullaby song
Lovely; thank you so much for putting this up for people to know the meaning of the words--just fyi if you are able to make a fix: you have a couple mistakes in the Russian spelling (grammatical errors)--dobychi (gen. sg. case) not dobycha (nom. sg.) and both in Russian and English one line is stated wrongly. He is not saying the first time "ty dobychi ne dozhdyosh'sia", he is saying "ty dobychi ne dob'yosh'sia". The more repeated "ne dozhdyosh'sia" means literally "you will not wait long enough for" [your prey] and "ne dob'yosh'sia" means "you will not achieve" [your prey], which etymologically derives from a meaning of "you will not beat through to". In the Russian, the beauty of the lyrics completely overwhelms me.
Thank you so much for making these corrections! My native language isn't Russian so it was quite tricky for me when I made this video.
Would you be so kind and spell the correct words for me in russian alphabet? I’m learning russian and was so surprised about the pronunciation of these lyrics, I thought I was hearing the wrong sounds!! Thank you so much if you do!
Whole song as sung here (which is just a part of the full song):
Чёрный ворон,
Что ты вьёшься над моею головой?
Ты добычи не добьёшься,
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
Чёрный ворон,
Что ты вьёшься над моею головой?
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
D’oh-one correction!
In this line add «ж», which is an emphatic particle-short for «что же» (emphatic “what”):
«Чтож ты вьёшься над моею головой»
JI Foss thank you so so much!!!!! 🙏🏻
This video seems to have lower quality audio than the movie. There is this kind of echo that sounds a little drowned out but still there. BUT for some reason it makes the song more creepy.
The Russian lyrics on screen and in the description are not 100% accurate.
For those interested, these are the correct lyrics:
Чёрный ворон,
Что ж ты вьёшься надо моею головой?
Ты добычи не добьёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
Чёрный ворон,
Что ж ты вьёшься надо моею головой?
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
Ты добычи не дождёшься,
Чёрный ворон, я не твой.
I listen to this song whenever my period cramps start to be unbearable somehow I feel relief
Lol
“Raven is a wicked bird, it’s wings are black as sin.”
Just waiting for a black or doom metal band to come up with a kick ass version of this.
I feel like this song is about fighting, because if you fall you will become a prey to the raven and this guy is fighting not to fall.
In the end he has to accept it
I rate this 3.6

Hey All, I've been trying to find out who actually performed this song recording--the name of the artist. It turns out that I'm not the only one who has asked this question, but bizarrely the answer to this specific is never given--it is always some answer about the history of the song; the fact that it is a folk song rendered by many different artists; or the fact that HBO owns the rights. Meanwhile, this singer was brilliant, and I would love to know who he is. Anyone know?
It's the actor who played Garo singing this version. The original song is a Russian folk song.
Thanks so much! This is the best version I’ve ever heard. Seriously want to write a fan letter
@@Maverickthegoof yep it really looks like Alexey Manvelov (aka Garo in Chernobyl) performed that. He's Russian speaking aswell
Man, every Russian can sing like that if the situation will be similar )
i think the black raven is the radioactive cloud
This song was in hbo's Chernobyl when the animals were shot. Does Chernobyl mean black raven is Russian?
black raven represents death, and this song initially reveals monologue of wounded soldier with death (black raven)
chorniy voron means black raven
No
Chornobyl, the Ukrainian word, means black grass, which is a possible translation for wormwood.

Dark Knight no it doesn’t. This song is however extremely haunting, and was mostly connected to the war times, as black raven means death. And chernobyl had too many deaths...
