Definitely geniuses of the twentieth century. Never nearly as famous as they should have been. Work Song is top 1% in my opinion. Nat and Julian Adderley are gifts to the universe.
Cannonball is just absolute perfection. The rhythmic feel of his lines and his tone were the absolute pinnacle of bebop IMHO. His bands were always unbelievably swinging as well (along with his brother of course).
Cleber, thank you so much for this!!! Because of the vast amount of great stuff on UA-cam,and the general effects on one's attention span in today's world,I rarely watch anything of this length anymore. But this program was completely arresting in it's intelligent and compelling presentation,by the band, the host, the warmth and simplicity of the set(having grown up with mostly black and white tv,I found this visually comforting)and last but certainly not least, the brilliance of Mr.Adderley.We must treasure this program, for we're not likely to see too many musical presentations on today's tv as unassuming yet deeply satisfying as this one. Thanks again!
+Benjamin Smith that man didn t perform solos ,he performed hits on sax, every solo of his is so damn easy to remember ,yet not that easy to play it !thats genius
Wonderful stuff great to hear Cannonball play and to see Joe Zawinul before his Weather repoet hat all brilliant composers and players thanks for posting

To my Uncle Sam “Homes” Jones who was the “bottom” for this great band for many years… during my adolescent years I didn’t know he played with all the greats… it was only until the Lord called him to his rest in 1981 that I found out what he actually did… Again, all of these guys are swinging together in Heaven playing praises to The Father on high 🙏🏽
Imagine the apprenticeship one would receive under this great player! It's no wonder the first Weather Report albums were already sophisticated, brilliant works...
Known for his "bounce" over the rhythm section, he's (Cannonball) also a little underrated. He pushed sax players further with his blues drenched playing. How about stylistically? Many have followed his blueprint, but never matching his utterly soulful sound.
A Fort Lauderdale native , product of Florida A M , noted saxophone, probably tenor , great range , committed to the rhythm section especially , piano at his best during live performances . His brother ,Bat Adderly , also a noted Jazz
George Koonce Cannon was born in Tampa and he and Nate grew up in Tallahassee. Cannon moved to Ft. Lauderdale after graduating college to be a high school band teacher. I just read his biography called Walk Tall. The Adderley's were great musicians and seemed like genuinely good folks.
Poor Joe Zawinul lost his hair while playing with cannibal... No, not mis spelling. The older Adderley was called that, because his enormous alletit, but record company didnt think it a good name so it was changed to Cannonball..
Listening over 50 years later and Nat Adderly is still weak as ever. Actually, he sounds weaker now than when I last saw him in person. .. spoken by Willis O. Webb (2024)

I love I can hear it all day and months and years
Cannonball is just absolute perfection. The rhythmic feel of his lines and his tone were the absolute pinnacle of bebop IMHO. His bands were always unbelievably swinging as well (along with his brother of course).
The fact that everything was memorized or ad-libbed is just genius.
absolute genius. Thats how you know they put in DAT WORK!!
Well, that's jazz
Joe Zawinul!!
COMMUNICATION! Both musically and verbally (In his priceless intros and raps to the audience)We greatly miss Cannon......there will never be another.

Yeah Greg. I know what you mean. This is an incredible show and it's so good to see so many people watching it. :)
Adderley's education background comes through strong in the concision of his remarks. Grateful to be learning from him almost 60 years later.
Yeah. For sure.
Listening to jazz is one of the best ways to learn jazz...
Me too.
Love Cannonball - a player with SUCH feeling - and loving his little introductions too!
Yeah, he is amazing.
+Benjamin Smith that man didn t perform solos ,he performed hits on sax, every solo of his is so damn easy to remember ,yet not that easy to play it !thats genius
Just love Unit 7! One of my all-time favorites!
The Cannonball at work....Priceless! 👑🎷🎵🎸
When I have kids this video will be playing in the background while we eat dinner.
Have any kids yet?
@@valentinius62 I dont think so..
This music as background ? I think it's more worth than that.
Early Zawinul ..... love it . the entire quintet just dayum !thnak you for posting this .
Yeah!! Love this too. :)
One of the greatest musicians ever !!
Wonderful stuff great to hear Cannonball play and to see Joe Zawinul before his Weather repoet hat all brilliant composers and players thanks for posting
"Scotch and water" from Zawinul, great tune!!!!
Yes! and the big things that he later did in music maybe overshadowed a little the fact that he really could Swing 2:56
This host is back in fashion today. Cannonball was the best!
For sure... :)
How cool is this coming up on my feed?
Never seen it, and I'm a Cannonball fan.
It’s soo clear that he understands his music theory
this is a million dollar group that has enough swing to move the heavens and earth.
This was nice.
Nat quotes "Exactly Like You" around 24:03. Love the way he moves out of the quote.
THIS is my kind of performance/ Master Class! More of this, please!!
THISISGOLD ... THOSE INTERVIEWS MADE MY DAY
Great. :)
Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing!
merci d'avoir publié cette vidéo! quel bon enregistrement -la musique, surtout!
Besides Miles' 1st Quintet, the illest Quintet Bar None Kid ! ! !

+goodkawz Great!!!
This is most wonderful group , look at the sidemen and the sharpness . The best .

La musica de los anos 1960 es muy especial en sonido .
musical y su Quintet es excelente
Zawinul HARDBOP UNIQUE MASTER
That lineup is just too much. Joe Zawinul from Weather Report fame, Louis Hayes on drums, Sam Jones. Hell, kids, this is the real deal.
+SeerTrulth For sure.
+SeerTrulth --you said it---takes me way back and Vic Feldman was top of my list!!
And I remember people were saying he was "Old School."
Not a horn man, but I don't get that.
Good lord man. Joe zawinul played in cannonballs band for many years before
Weather report was even a thought…
great player and such an articulate and thoughtful speaker.
That second alto solo blew my mind
Known for his "bounce" over the rhythm section, he's (Cannonball) also a little underrated. He pushed sax players further with his blues drenched playing. How about stylistically? Many have followed his blueprint, but never matching his utterly soulful sound.
Louis Hayes unique style....rim tapping.
Used it in my humble stint as an amateur drummer in the 60's.
@@bobobrien3563 - Louis Hayes is a fantastic drummer
Louis Hayes and Sam Jones drove this band for many years.
24:04 Exactly Like Unit Seven
The best..no one hac come close to him.
Couldn’t agree more. Cannonball was and is the greatest alto player ever
The greatest alto player ever
i love it
facinating..

True art.
Why the beret over the bell, was Nat's sound too hot for the microphones in that studio?
Does anyone see or saw the microphones? It sounds incredible but I can't understand how they recorded
Right On Cleber Guimaraes !!!!
Yeah!! :)
2:56 piano solo (for my own reference)
a young Zawinul..swinging
They were so smooth. I wish that Nate got alittle more notariety.
Julian is still as good as they come..
Oh yes, Nat was an incredible player and deserved that..
Not that they wernt famous...but they should have been even bigger. That kind of talent is imposible to duplicate.
Dan Bunch For sure. I agree, they are in that "zone" that is one of a kind.
I like the way he plays his cornet. He can make it sound like a trompet and still having the dark sound of the cornet.
Who the hell put thumb down on this?!?!?!? Those guys should be locked in hospital for insane people....👎Happy Birthday Cannonball!!!! 🗽🗽🗽🗽
Mr. Najponk sometimes people accidentally hit the button. who gives a fuck if somebody doesn't like cannonball any way its their loss.
Sorry I was drunk, I missed the like button!
This is so great. Which year is that?
Yes. This is great. 1961.
Thanks!
Dopeeee
I forgot what the word jaunty meant. I looked it up in the dictionary. All it said in Webster’s was : “ Julian “Cannonball “Adderley. Shaw nuff’ ❤🌸💯
Whats the name of this song
❤️❤️❤️
:)
Joe Zawinul: how can an Austrian be so funky?
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
What day is it that you can’t use a little Cannonball in your life!! 😅
Whos on trumpet?
I've never been in love before 21:18
effortless swing
SCOTCH AND WATER
☆☆☆☆☆
😎
Como é o nome desse primeiro tema?
Opa, beleza?
Tem os nomes dos temas na descrição. O primeiro é o Scotch and Water.
Zawinul replaced Bobby Timmons, who left Cannonball for Art Blakey.
Cannonball Plays like he is telling you a funny story.
The inception of The Weather Report
Oh Herr Zawinul. Met my wife with him! In 2001. He insisted in Peace and Justice.
Bad ,bad, ! For the squares ,it means great,!
Casual?...But they're wearing suits and ties!🤔
JOE Zzzz!!!on Straight.
Poor Joe Zawinul lost his hair while playing with cannibal... No, not mis spelling. The older Adderley was called that, because his enormous alletit, but record company didnt think it a good name so it was changed to Cannonball..
I’d say they made the right call
It's a shame Nat played with that fur coat over his bell.
I’d never seen anything like that before.
