    You're welcome! And that's a great point, I've linked an article in the description that discusses how the US Forest Service had identified many areas that needed to be cleared of dry brush or deliberately burned to create a buffer zone but, because of congress' self-imposed budget restrictions, those measures were never funded. It wouldn't have prevented the fire, but it may have made it much less severe.

    When the caption said there was a C-130 ahead, I could barely see it in the smoke. That's why firefighting flying is so dangerous. Takes a lot of skill and courage to do that.

    To answer a question or two, the fire started on Saturday the 17'th of August, we saw planes flying over,close to home but over the hill, remote, they'll kill it. Turns out, not too many resources available, Monday the 19th?, It blew up and in my little town we were the first to be told to get the hell out. Couch surfed for a week. The one memory seared into my brain is when I had to leave the first place I was staying because at this point the fire was heading there. This time I'm heading off the mountain to Modesto with a very confused, rather large dog in the small back seat of the company truck. Around Knights Ferry is the first time I can see it in the rear view mirror, an absolutely HUGE plume of smoke over the mountains, all I could think was "Oh sh*t, that's home".

    Wow, incredible seeing the fire in time lapse, shows how bad a fire that was. Amazingly, though hard to believe, the Cedar fire (2003) in San Diego was bigger and more destructive. Cedar fire burned nearly 300,000 acres (20,000 acres in one hour early in the firestorm), over 2,300 homes destroyed, and killed 15, most of which were killed in the fast moving hour when the approximate 20k acres burned. So sad seeing California burning like these, seems to be worsening over time. The forests like this one just go up like gasoline. Cuyamaca State Park was almost completely obliterated by the Cedar fire in 2003, where entire hillside homes destroyed and a nearly complete loss of pine, and cedar trees that still have not made much of a comeback since the burn. We really have to hope this drought will end, not just in or for one year, but for many years. Ecosystems just not recovering as well like they have in the past. So very sad, and horrific for people who lost their homes and the beautiful environment they used to live in.

    For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry? ~Luke 23:29-31

    Hundreds of years old trees destroyed , habitat for forest animals , many living animals killed , air pollution , thousands of gallons of water wasted putting out the fire . Such a tragedy .

      These are fire ecosystems. We have suppressed fires there for a century making them overgrown and sick- had we let this area burn on its natural schedule this fire would not have been so bad. BUT I was there 3 days ago and the forest looks AMAZING! Lots of new growth, the wild flowers are off the hook because the forest is thinned and light is getting to the forest floor, plant and animal life is recovering and the forest has not been so healthy in a century. Helps we had a record amount of water this winter as well.

    Typically the forest needs to be quite dry to start a large fire. There must also be plenty fuel.
    If say we were going to clear a large area of forest we would wait till near the dry season so there would be little chance of rain then log heavily, leave the fallen trees to dry some more in the sun's heat, break up the trees so they can catch light and connect the dry fuel together so when it burns the fire continues to spread. On the day to burn after the trees have had plenty of time to dry it time to douse in fuel and set fire. But the fire will also damage living trees as well, but it will stop eventually as it has great difficulty burning very wet trees.

    • @kynchan3332
      @kynchan3332 3 роки тому

      @@TheChopmama Areas need to be cleared so it doesn't do much more damage when the weather is excessively dry for an extended time. By breaking up the fuel available to the fire the fire is limited to where it can spread.

    I would disable that 'landing gear' voice.
    I'm actually a little confused as to why such a warning system would be put on an aircraft in the first place. As if pilots don't go through an insane amount of training. I'm pretty sure a pilot knows when to put the landing gear down. I would be insulted.
