  • Chain tension according to the USA Service Manual. Measured 25mm. ( 2.5 cm. ) behind the lower plastic chain guide in the recessed swing arm area. When pushing at this point, the chain should be 2-5mm. away from the recessed center of the U shaped wing arm. Almost as much slack as my KTM 690 Enduro R.

I leave the rear wheel on the ground to adjust the chain as seen in the video; there should be no difference with the rear wheel lifter to be used according to the manual. Tighten up the chain will cause too high forces on the sprocket and later oil leakage!

Is that with the back wheel unweighted (ie box lift ) or is it on side stand / paddock stand ?

Hi Mark. Video shows chain tension as per Service Manual. I am using a rear paddock stand. So technically weight of the bike is on wheel.
I wanted to make a video to show how much slack should be on the KTM 890 Adventure / R chain. My dealer had it too tight. With proper chain sag, the suspension feels plush and moves freely with contour or road. No issues with slapping or gaps ( daylight ) when I pull the chain from back end of rear sprocket. Kam
