King has some absolutely outrageous stuff in this game. He is close to being broken tier as he has certain isolated moves and mechanics that make him broken, but I wouldn't place him in the top 5 personally (still S tier though for sure). Here's some brief tips I can give you: 1. You gotta learn to abuse his db1+2 (Muscle Armor) power crush, and try to practice cancelling it into grabs and his Heat Engager elbow. However be patient with it! Don't just immediately mash out of it, try to see when your opponent is about to land a move, then practice using it as a sort of parry, then punish them! It's an absolutely excellent tool if you use it as a parry, particularly for people who like running in with plus-frame moves, like Dragunov's WR2, Azucena's WR3 2, or Claudio's WR2. In terms of being used as a parry, uf3+4 also serves the same function. If you get a hit with that, free 50/50 mixup afterwards. I personally almost always use the mid option as people like ducking since they're so scared of RKO. 2. King's backdash is extremely lackluster in this game so you'll wanna use db1+2 as said, or backwards Jaguar Step (b3+4) occasionally. Backwards Jaguar Step into Jaguar Step 2 will catch a lot of people who mindlessly rush in or mash, then you get the free Heat Engager d1+4 afterwards if you hit them of course! Just be mindful as you can get floated out of Jaguar Step. 3. King in Heat mode is also borderline busted, especially with his armored Jaguar Sprint f3+4. Again watch for timing - don't just mash out of the move, wait a brief moment to see what they do, then let it rip. A LOT of people are afraid of RKO since it's unbreakable, so use the mid launcher, Jaguar Sprint 1. If they're trying to interrupt you with lows, use Jaguar Sprint 3 to crush the low and to beat sidesteps. It's particularly great at the wall as well. 4. Keep people honest with your godlike mid checks - particularly characters who like staying in the mid range with keep out (Lee, Bryan), or characters who want to gain momentum after running towards you (Dragunov, Reina). The two moves that are key to this are ff n 1+2, the almighty shove which grants a free f2 1 Heat Engager on counter hit, and df2, which you have to practice twitching and confirming a counter hit on. If you score a counter hit with it, learn to recognize that and then press 1 for a mini combo/launch. 5. Most importantly, practice your sidesteps! Sidesteps are absolutely godlike in this game. King had a sort of mediocre sidestep in T7 but here it's way better! Sidestepping into f2 1 is your best friend, as I demonstrate in this video! Keep up the King practice my friend, and thank you for watching!
