awsome video I was curious how did you make the brick-looking background?
thanks - the background was made in photoshop and vectorised in illustrator.
I am having issues with un-grouping the text and shadow. Is there a way to set up my program cause yours looks a lot different then mine. I am using the Microsoft surface pro 7

I can only ungroup once, meaning I can't select each bit of the letters. No idea why! Any ideas on how to fix that? Great easy to follow tutorial otherwise!
check the other comments and replies. i think its because your using the new extrude feature. you need to use legacy one.

@@mosescarter5980 in the new version of illustrator you need to go to "Effect > 3D Materials > (3D Classic)".
They're calling it classic. Fewer shading features, but you will be able to expand appearance and get all the vectors.

I'm having trouble aligning it, i select both objects by shift clicking. Then i proceed to release the shift key and click to align and its not aligning properly. any tips? Thanks in advance.

@@springrolljacky when selecting for alignment, the red line indicates the key object. So if you select your two shapes how you normally would whilst holding down the ctrl key. then release the ctrl key and single click on the object you want to align with.
@@Richgraphics When i select the outer letter shape and the shaded shape. they do align properly but it becomes detached from inner letter shape of the main G. Also, my selection indication is blue. did i group it wrong or select it wrong?
@@springrolljacky The color of the outline you get from clicking on it is just to let you know which group your objects are a part of. You can usually see this by the colored line next to your object in the layers tab.

How do you get that "color swatch panel" (with the yellow text) on the left side of the workspace??
This is just something I have added myself. Nothing special or a plug-in unfortunately. Hope this helps.
@@Richgraphics ty! How did you add it? Was it a custom code or setting?
It’s just drawn with the normal illustrator tools I.e rectangle etc.. on its own layer. Then positioned outside the art board. Then the layer is locked so I don’t mess it up when working.

Sounds like you're expanding multi elements - do you have a timecode in the video where you might be experiencing this issue?

My letter is a single piece 🥲
you mean your only using a letter opposed to a word?
as in after we apply bevels and select all the letters, it selects the letters as whole as in there aren't all the different segments which you can edit individually

You either need to ungroup everything, or just double check you're using the legacy 3D tools not the new ones.@@quinnvonwiese1240
