The Story of Little Red | A 1984 Subaru GL 4x4
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2024
- November of 2016, I found an online posting of a 1984 Subaru GL Hatchback for sale in Hood River, Oregon. Merl, the 2nd owner of the Subaru, asked an employee at his local Les Schwab tire center to list the Subaru for sale as he wasn’t comfortable advertising it. In the coming days, I arranged for my friend Phil and I to drive down in a slightly more modified 84’ Subaru GL built by Gregg Huld

what a nice old man, love how he took care of the subi
TENGO UNO IGUAL
This is such a cool video, that old man sharing how much he knows is incredible. Im sure you had a great time listening to his stories, and reading through the paperwork.
I had a 1984 Subaru gl 2 door sedan, I loved that car maroon with beige interior. I bought it brands new when I was 21.
My first Subaru was a metallic blue one of these. My beloved 1.8l GLF, 4 speed. Loved this car. It went everywhere. Used to go offroading with my dad, He had a Series 2A Land Rover and this was way way better, often used this little beauty to pull the Landy out. Mine rusted to death. Nothing stopped working on it ever BUT couldn't afford all the welding it needed so had to sell it. Had the hatch with 4lo+4hi and a few years later had the DL estate 5 speed with 2hi+2hi+4lo. My favourite car ever.
Great vid.
Rad find! I just picked up a 1986 GL wagon @ 85,000 miles here in Newberg Oregon.
I had one just like that in the mid 1990's. God wish I had it now, then I got a black one in 2000, yep, God wish I had it now. Great off road. Wish I could come across another one.
I had an '85 in the same color with the white wagon wheels. Loved that little buggy and made a lot of memories with it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I have a1989 Subaru gl hatch back it has Brat running gears it had 135000 miles on it .this is a good car it will go anywhere
Great documentation.. and a great ride...As Mr. Burns would say ..."Excellent !"
Thank you kind sir. It was with sadness to find of Merle passing 3 weeks ago. Here is the full story subaru-adventures.com/in-remembrance-of-merle-nicklas-little-reds-previous-owner/
Keep it original and take to shows with your offroader! People would love to see them side by side! The red one will draw so much appreciation at any subaru gathering!! Great story with it too!
Absolutely incredible find, always liked those rims also. I had 7 GL and DL from 1980 to 1984 model years here in Wisconsin and you could hear them rust.
Just awesome! I teach automotive and had a student come to class in one of these and I had to educate myself on it. You found a gem with a great story!
The first rst Subaru I've met in my life was Subaru Leone 4 door in white colour. Still remember
They are very fun cars and are cherished for many years to come.
I had 2 1980 hatchbacks and a 1988 GL hatchback all 4 wheel drive what fun cars they where. They would really go thru the snow.
Had an 85 Man did this clip bring back memories.
Thanks for the vid. Heartwarming.
Thank Merl for his service.
It is with sadness to find that the previous owner of the 1984 Subaru GL, Merle Nicklas had passed away. subaru-adventures.com/in-remembrance-of-merle-nicklas-little-reds-previous-owner/
What a gorgeous car. He kept it immaculate!
What a great find
ol' Denim Dan took great care of that sweet old GL
Wow that is amazing. It would be hard for me to modify that one. Looks like a fantastic driver. These things are getting so hard to find even in driving condition
Wow. Frigging beautiful
Lucky you. I loved my 84.
I paid way to much for a 84 brat full of rust, wish I could have found this guy, take care of it! My brat sits in the garage waiting for its overhaul.
great car man, awesome!
First new car was an 82 hatchback in blue metallic with the third headlight. Loved the car only wished it had a five speed instead of the four.
Just got my first subi. 2000 Forester l manual.love it. Pnw here also.

How does a dealership add a sunroof?
As far as I could see from the ones I had: cut a hole, drop in the sunroof kit with sealer around the flange, and screw in the inside trim underneath to sandwich it all together. They were made to be simple and quick to install especially where this kind of thing was very common at the time and I believe all these car's sunroofs were aftermarket. The one I had on my '83 sedan didn't have the bolts going through the glass like most and was big enough to jump through, which I often did in the summer by leaving the glass out. My 1990 Legacy's aftermarket sunroof was installed while they replaced the windshield and everything was done in a few hours. I never had any leaks, squeaks, or other problems with either sunroof (though both cars were pretty loud, so it would be easy to miss) and I actually kind of liked popping the glass out as opposed to the electric sliding ones I've had in modern cars because it gave it more of a sense of occasion, like a T-roof or Targa.
Mitch Kelleher those days are gone...
as far as i know they came stock...Haven't you seen the picture of them on the dock coming off the ship? Hundreds of them...Nice shot and many with "Moon something".Thats what they called them..
Not to many people like this old tymer anymore. Sad for our country.
I was thinking the same thing.
Older but so much wiser, respect 👍🏻
the guys voice sounds a lot like stan lee
Whatever happened to this car? Do you still have it?
Still have possesion of the vehicle. The right rear brake drum leaks and will be repaired this summer.
@@BDudasProductions Great! Please take good care of it and leave it in it's orignal condition. I have a 1980 Subaru SRX Hatchback which I truly adore.
@@cespo77 We will definitely make sure and hoping to make further videos with it! The SRX Hatchbacks are also sought after older Subarus. Have a great weekend!
@@BDudasProductions Please make more videos. It is a nice car. I hope to make a video of the SRX real soon.
@@cespo77 Thanks I will push for more this summer. Will be interested to see this SRX as well.
It was the good subies before the crappy Loyales came out
I want to sell SUBARU DL-5 Van 4 doors original equipment. Legal documents to sell 2 hundred thousand Thai Baht.
Another cool video ruined by music.
The video was on watchable due to the stupid freaking music in the background. Why the hell do people do this?
I've been asking myself that same question. Sometimes we just have to grow older to understand.
