Just sold a 570 sportsman and got a DCT Rubicon. There equally as fast. Everyone focuses on crank HP but the wheel HP was near equal and there both within a few pounds of each other. The rubicon is way more fun to ride by far! You don't need 1000cc 55whp monsters doing 88 mph everywhere. How often do you do more then 30 on a trail? Yeah didn't think so...
So I have a 2022 Honda Forman rubicon 520 dct deluxe model. And I’ve got roughly 1017 miles on it. 177.2hrs. I’ve noticed when I’m in low gear if I give it more than enough gas to get unstuck it makes a pop noise maybe even a grind noise I let off and slowly try to crawl out in low. scares the life out of me. Still runs and shifts like normal. Normal top end speed no gear reduction. But I just put 28 swamp lites on it as well and it dose the same thing I’m nervous of what it could be any advice?
well, i still havint driven this system on ATVs, i do have tho driven the DCT on many of theyre bikes, like the VFR and the CTX...and it works flawlessly brilliant..
0:45 Examples? Push the boundary as the most technologically unadvanced brand maybe... 1:22 What about the 420 Rancher AT (DCT) Released 2 years prior? 4:18 I guess it has to be efficient with a engine that pumps out less than 30hp, 35% less power than it's competition....
I have a 2017 rubicon 500 and in high the gears show on the display module but when in low the gears do not show is that how they are or is something wrong with mine?
I have a Honda Rubicon 500 its about a year old and im already having trouble with my shifter, it would not let me shift gears at all manually nor automatically i don’t know if its just my 4 wheeler or they all came out defected. And what could be the problem please help.
I own a1994 Honda 300 foot shifter still runs great use it every fall for moose hunting Have no concerns about going 25 or 30 kilometres from camp by my self I know it will get me back to camp in getting lazy to shift gears now. Gonna buy a rubicon or rincon can't decide. But. Never. A belt drive ! There a piece of crap that's why a snowmobile carries an extra belt U just never know when it's gonna fail
I have a 2017 honda fourtrax rancher and i like it it has the old fashoned footshift and i it runs amazing i like honda because they have reliable atvs that last forever.
So do you have to shift that like a motorcycle I guess I still don't quite know how the transmission works works in these machines that's why I asked if you have to shift them like a motorcycle.
Just brought home a 2017 Rubi dct/eps today. This will be my third Rubicon. I had an 04, and 12 prior to this one. Im still on the fence about the new tranny by I think I will end up liking it. Shifts a little hard initially. I always end up going back to Honda. Had a 15 RZR 1k for a while but it was nothing but problems even without being abused. Yes, the cvt was horrible. It got wet multiple times and if you ever ran it in high in the wrong conditions it would smoke. Yea Honda is under powered but that also adds to their reliability. All three of my Rubis have plenty of power to get me wherever I need to go and I have put them through some rough stuff. I snorkeled the 04 and sunk it multiple times and never had a single problem.
My 2015 Rubicon went out of gear recently and wouldn't stay in gear, I took it in and found out the shift plate broke on the shift spindle. Now I have to split the front crankcase and swap it out a 6 hour job, not very impressive for a new machine.
I have a question I have a 2017 Honda rancher 420 irs with the auto and Manuel option . My question is when we ride it some times it Boggs down and won’t spin the wheels when we go up hills and stuff does anyone know what could be wrong?
I've recently had a Grizzly 700 and before that Polaris Sportsman 500 and 700 respectfully. But before all that in the late 90's and early 2000's i grew up on Foreman ES and Rancher ES. I have never drove an automatic Honda machine before. Does the ESP mode on Rubicons have sound? You know how when you're driving a Foreman or Rancher ES how it makes that clunk so to speak when you hit the up or down arrow? I've heard its seamless on the Rubicon? Is there any other difference than that? I will probably keep it in ESP mode 95% of the time so I'm curious to know if there are any differences between ESP mode on a Rubicon vs the Foreman ES as far as how it operates. Also what's the top speed of the '15 Rubicon DCT and how does the ESP differ in drive or low range? In the video the Honda guy said it's like having 10 gears? Sounds awesome but I'm curious how it actually feels and works!
How does the rear independent suspension affect towing capabilities? I had the 650 when it first came out, and found that it was not able to tow as well as my trx500 which did not have the IRS.
I have now the 2015 Honda Rubicon with DCT. 15h of run for now (mostly plowing). Tremendous power! (in comparison of the 2004 I had just before). I've noticed one problem yet (will the first maintenance due in 5h correct it?). Many times, the gear indicator on the dashboard will stop indicate (D or N) (in low or high) and will just display a ----- line and you have to give a little gas so I will show again the gear position. Yesterday, as I was plowing a big pile of snow, the bike staled right at the worst time and was displaying a ---- bar instead of the gear position again.. could not make it start .. Puled it with my truck (make the wells turn to try to get it in a position where the gear would show again and bring it in N so I could start it again.. nothing.. tought I could be the battery (plowing with a winch will drain the battery), Nope.. nothing also. Then I tought to switch it in Esp mode and there I was in 2 gear! Push the button down and there I was in Neurtral and made it start again. Everything was fine then. It's the 3rd time it happens to me.. What could be the cause of this malfunction? I would not whant this to happen to me in deep mud or as i'm climbing a big hill this spring at the hunting camp (not to mention that all my friends will be watching me to evaluate the 2015 Honda). Thank's!
Richard, I'm by far no ATV expert, but from my understanding the "AUTO" mode is best suited for casual trail riding, while the "ESP" mode is best suited for aggressive trail riding and work duties. Now I'm not saying you can't use the "AUTO" mode when plowing snow, but I am saying that it's not the best choice. The "LOW" position would be my recommendation for plowing and towing chores regardless of whether you are in "AUTO" or "ESP" Reserve the "DRIVE" position for all but the worst trail conditions you may encounter. As far as the "------" condition your experiencing. Contact the dealer you bought the ATV from. It sounds to me like the tranny is "confused" and searching for or in between gears as a result of the stall. The "AUTO" mode monitors and adapts it's shift points based upon the way the rider is running the machine. A stall is not "running" the machine, thus the confusion caused for the "ECU" portion of the tranny. In "ESP" mode the tranny is "locked" into the gear the rider chooses so the tranny doesn't have to perform as a "Smart Tranny" so to speak. I think this is the best way to describe this particular ATV... Look at this ATV like a 4 wheel drive truck... When driving casually (relaxed style of riding) or performing light duty chores (pulling an empty ATV cart), "AUTO" mode will most likely be fine in most cases. When driving aggressively or in demanding conditions, performing heavy duty chores (snow plowing is a heavy duty chore, unless your only plowing a few inches of light powdery snow, the kind you could easily sweep with a broom), or tackling tricky, steep or rough terrain, "ESP" mode is the best choice IMO. Richard, Again I'd highly recommend you contact the Honda ATV dealer where you purchased the ATV at, as you'll most certainly NOT receive any kind of reply concerning your issue from a Honda rep. or dealer on a UA-cam post.
Obeconobe7 I disagree. I think Honda built a better ATV with and a much worst transmission a smaller engine and a much bigger price tag. I have an 06 Rubicon and I have been plowing snow for 9 years here in Canada and that transmission as never been in ESP ( only to try it out a couple of times) and has never let me down. Always in the right gear ratio and plows snow great. Now it doesn't have a diff lock or IRS, so from what I have been reading the new Rubicon is a over all better quad. However, with the amount of time it takes Honda to put out a new model ATV, I don't think we should have to settle with a sub par transmission. They certainly had time to think it through. If I was going to buy another ATV anytime soon, it would not be this DCT unit. Love Honda reliability, but not enough to deal with the frustration of a geared transmission on trail rides that require me to go to ESP on steep hills which do not work as well as a good belt system ( like Yamaha or Suzuki) on steep hills. May have to wait to see what Honda has for the Rincon and if that doesn't work I'll take a king quad.
kmmdad ybmuk What transmission do you have? Obviously not the DCT as the 2015 Foreman Rubicon and 2015 Rancher are the first year and models of Honda atvs it is available on according to Honda themselves. It sounds like you have the automatic manual footshift version as the only other version is the ESP. My recommendation for using the DCT tranny in ESP mode over AUTO mode comes directly from Honda and Honda salesman themselves.
kmmdad ybmuk Oh ok. I guess that depends on who you talk to. Some say it's the best, some don't. I don't have any personal experience with it, but it sounded like a very good transmission overall from what I've read about it. Honda must be pretty confident in their new DCT equipped Rubicon though. Practically all the specs I've seen that compare the Hondamatic equipped Rubicon and DCT equipped Rubicon favor the DCT Rubicon as an improvement even with the smaller cc powerplant. I will admit though, that it seems Honda keeps cutting corners on some things to save cost while their machines keep increasing in cost, but every manufacturer does that. For example: The older machines came equipped with steel skids plates straight from the factory. The new machines have "plastic" skid plates... SERIOUSLY!!! How long do they think those will last over rough terrain. Come on Honda!
Its not too hard to be durable when it only has to deal with 30 horsepower. Put a Can Am 1000 in front of the transmission and make high range go up to 80mph.
Now i love honda and there just bomb proof bur doesnt the new honda rubicon independent suspension with electric shift give trouble because i love honda and im.buying a new honda soon but im dont want wone tat has problems but if anywone noes plz reply
I just got a brand new manual foot shifted Rubicon. It seems a little clunky and hard to shift compared to the older Hondas I've owned. When its just been started, and the engine is cold, its impossible to shift from 2nd to 3rd. After a minute or so it starts to work. The dealer claims it feels and sounds normal to them. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone? The bike has 65 miles on it now.
I’m not a big fan of cvt belt drive I like Honda because they have not gone to cvt I love the gears. No belt slippage or belt replacement In my mind cvt is a cheap set up
I don't know about this DCT transmission. I own a 2016 Rubicon with the DCT and it is not a "seamless" shifting transmission. I have brought it to the local dealer "Sutherland Honda" and they all said the transmission is not seamless and that it may get "a bit better" after the break-in period. When my wheeler shifts, you feel the unit compress and once it shifts, it is very snappy. They claim I didn't get a dud, but I would like to ask those who own one if they have encountered similar concerns or if they would consider the DCT a "seamless shift". Your help would be very appreciated!
Mine does the same thing Andrew. Update your Electronic controller modual. The newer models 2017 have a different shift mapping. Think it cost around $140.00 and makes it shift like butter. Takes all the harshness when shifting and down shifting.
Nick Buckley my belt doesn’t slip in the mud. There fucking sealed dumb ass. What the fuck do you think a snowmobile has in it and they run in the wet conditions all the time. If u don’t know shit about bikes don’t comment u just look stupid.
I still don't know why they don't just make both a cvt and a dct. They would expand their market and I might actually buy another Honda lol. But I've gotten hooked on the cvt it's just too nice to throw it in gear and hit the gas. I used to say all I'd ever have was a foot shift but after riding an auto I got hooked. I've also had a lot of problems out of Hondas electronic shift crap and that makes me leary of them.
It doesn't work very well imo I've had em all and a cvt is the most user friendly and I love the high speed reverse for getting out of mud holes and such. It's a much better design to me. I've had multiple Hondas and I've rode a lot with the dct I really don't like it at all tbh. When I ride them I shift them with the buttons lol
For walking slow dairy cows in, for starting away on a steep rough track with a heavy trailer load of feeding, for going up steep narrow rough woodland tracks and being in control on bad dangerous hillsides all without slipping the clutch to be able to crawl slowly, steadily with constant engine drive. There should be a word wide law that requires all off road machines to have a crawler first and reverse gear. Some of us have to work not play with our atv.
I own a manual model and am very disappointed with the stupidly large turning circle. I have owned honda all my life but now am thinking of going to Suzuki. Honda must re-look at there turning circle. Other than that It is a very good bike
this is a step in the right direction but the bike is underpowered for this class has a air intake that is too low, a low top speed and not enough ground clearance. Honda needs to put that new 1000 desert twin in a hardcore atv frame to compete with Can am.
Sorry for my "Biased Comment Here" BUT and oneself says "BUT" again here. It said in thee above watched video that this was "Produced", "Made" in the U.S.A , now isn't HONDA oriental huh ? . so an "American" making this idea for "HONDA" now that doesn't fly to well with oneself here. Thee Oriental people do not need American People showing them how to produce their product. As a "Canadian" oneself is unbiased in which Honda does its best under any conditions to make its products in their eyes 'Thee" best that they can produce under their best efforts. And seeing that their getting outside help shows utmost cleverness . Oneself is going to cut this comment short and say "Krrp up the great work HONDA"
They act like nobody with a Yamaha or Polaris or any other ATV with a CVT transmission can tow anything. Honda, give it up and make a CVT transmission already. There is a reason ALL other ATV manufacturers make ATV's with a CVT transmission. Because they work, and work very well. I want to buy a Honda, but I will not get one until they decide to step into the 21 century, and at least make CVT an option.
+bushwackerjed You obviously know nothing about ATV's and ATV transmissions with statements like that. For functionality, reliability, and durability, they are standard for ATV's. That is why they are industry leading transmissions, and exactly why Honda is no longer on top of the ATV market like they once were. Combine Honda engine reliability, with a CVT, locking front differential, and 4 wheel independent suspension on all their 4x4 models, and they could very well be a top selling contender once again. If they would design a two cylinder big-bore ATV and side by side, they would climb back to the top of the sales market even quicker.
+Matt Goetz I know nothing Ill put it this way I ride a HONDA and have pulled more others back home others back to camp with their so called leading CVT transmissions with broken belts or other problems and I have never been towed so stop being a sheep and believing new is better its not
+bushwackerjed Of course you ride a Honda, and think it is the best. That doesn't make you right, it makes you a fan-boy. Like I stated earlier, lack of new, proven technology in Honda ATV's today is why they fall way behind the competition in sales. I have personally put thousands of miles on ATV's with CVT transmissions, for farm use as well as recreational trail rides, and I have yet to have a CVT failure. Not ONE. CVT belts hold strong for at least 5000 miles in most machines, and most could go over 10,000 miles. People usually do routine belt changes at 5000 miles, just as a precaution, not a need. Honda makes reliable rigs, but that is about all they are. If you like a foot shift, which few people do anymore, Honda has you covered. They continue to fall behind the competition in performance, power, transmission style, and ground clearance. The newest Honda ATV's are 10 years, or more in some aspects, behind the competition in the aspect of innovation. I hate to break it to you, but you are in a HUGE minority of people who think newer is not better when it comes to ATV transmissions and other innovations. Keep living in the past 1990's hay-day of Honda, while it's competition from the other big names in ATV's just speeds on by.
+Matt Goetz still don't trust that junk cvt gears are better and yes I do use it on my farm all the time and pleasure riding and yes have put a hell of a lot more miles than that on them still have my original TRX200 from the early 80s still going strong and also have 2014 HONDA Foreman 500 wouldn't trade either of them
Horrible transmission, drove one and only got down the road before I turned around and parked it. It's DEFINITELY NOT seamless, it shifts so hard into gears it feels like it's going to blow apart.
This is the only reason why I take Honda over any other atv not because it's reliable but because it's got gears and I love to hear that engine shift down or up and feel it

Love Honda's.I wish made a 6wheel drive like cam_am
AND A 2 SEATER QUAD, I'M JUST WAITING FOR THEM TO BRING ONE OUT, THEN DOWN THE HONDA DEALER I GO,
Did not know they built them in SC, damn maybe I can get a job working for them and get a discount! lol
Good information thank you guys
where is the showroom of ATV Honda bike in India ?
Why don't you do suzuki test rides
AtvFan 166 they're good to go. Dont need to.
Love your videos.please make more on the honda tub 1000
Love Honda
I have to say I like my semi manual trans .over a belt driven four wheeler
Honda makes can am look like a bitch
+Dawson Marek Only to people that don't know what they're talking about!
Do they make a IRS edition for the 08 500 honda foreman
How does the rear independent suspension affect towing capabilities? I had the 650 when it first came out, and found that it was not able to tow as well as my trx500 which did not have the IRS.
+Practical Builds yes, thank you!
these questions ‘beg’ to be answered...
Best ATV made !!
Great vid
I have the hondamatic on the 499 cc Rubicon...... It is the best transmission that that Honda ever made on an atv
kmmdad ybmuk Oh ok.
Really want to know what a Honda linhai 4x4 quad does
Its not too hard to be durable when it only has to deal with 30 horsepower.
I really want one of these🙁🙁🙁😭😭😭
Class
I just got a brand new manual foot shifted Rubicon. It seems a little clunky and hard to shift compared to the older Hondas I've owned. When its just been started, and the engine is cold, its impossible to shift from 2nd to 3rd. After a minute or so it starts to work. The dealer claims it feels and sounds normal to them. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone? The bike has 65 miles on it now.
Put some more miles on it. It will break in and be smooth as butter.
yeah it took about 110 miles to smooth out
I’m not a big fan of cvt belt drive I like Honda because they have not gone to cvt I love the gears. No belt slippage or belt replacement In my mind cvt is a cheap set up
maybe,but,i lot cheaper to replace.
I have 03 Yamaha Kodiak and it has Yamaha UltraMatic cvt and it actually one of the best belt cvt. But I prefer Automotive style Transmission.
What I can't understand is why Honda can't fix the "hard" shift in the automatic mode. It's terrible.
Exept the fift gear...it goes very smooth. Other gears sound like uts gona broke in any second🤬
It gets a lot smoother with more mileage. I have a 2021 Rubicon deluxe it is very smooth
I want footshift with no power steering. On 4x4 rubicon
Is there an option for a foot Shift?
Yes
To add its about a 15 minute Job.
hi, do you have a part number for the new controller?
Does honda make a rubicon 500 with a manual shifter (foot shifter)
Yes
@@exxarkuun891 Thanks
2010?? My '07 rubi has a dct
Price
can you have foot/auto
Put a 40-45HP engine in them. Offer a CVT model and a 5 speed foot shift model to choose from. Sales skyrocket. Sadly Honda just doesn't get it
JohnnyRebKy why so it can slip in the water and mud. I'm certain honda is bulletproof
***** one thing that does suck is the loss of power thru the system. But thus is easily fixed with a clutch kit that meets your particular needs
But y would u need 5 gears in low I'm confused on that part
For some crazy ass torque
For walking slow dairy cows in, for starting away on a steep rough track with a heavy trailer load of feeding, for going up steep narrow rough woodland tracks and being in control on bad dangerous hillsides all without slipping the clutch to be able to crawl slowly, steadily with constant engine drive. There should be a word wide law that requires all off road machines to have a crawler first and reverse gear. Some of us have to work not play with our atv.
Mudding
Better mpg, instead of sitting at mostly only one rpm level
Honda always has a safety on revere my 86 125 four trax has one .lol
I need a automatic
0:56 Nice job copying the Suzuki King Quad 4wd/diff lock switch setup...
Make a model with a cvt, larger display and I will buy it. Oh yeah and more hp.
Foot Shift >
I own a manual model and am very disappointed with the stupidly large turning circle.
I have owned honda all my life but now am thinking of going to Suzuki. Honda must re-look at there turning circle.
Other than that It is a very good bike
it takes a lot of feed back out of the bars
this is a step in the right direction but the bike is underpowered for this class has a air intake that is too low, a low top speed and not enough ground clearance. Honda needs to put that new 1000 desert twin in a hardcore atv frame to compete with Can am.
I don’t understand why Honda is still using drum brakes.... that’s a thing of the past.
Honda innovations lead the industry, moreover Honda reliability is why I will not consider another atv!
honda dosent like to settle with what they have !!!!!!!
for the love of god why do you still use drum breaks in the rear ???
Can u get a kid atv
If Honda where to make a large cc cvt drive atv it would bankrupt Polaris and canam
+Matt Goetz cvt sucks
+Matt Goetz still don't trust that junk cvt gears are better and yes I do use it on my farm all the time and pleasure riding and yes have put a hell of a lot more miles than that on them still have my original TRX200 from the early 80s still going strong and also have 2014 HONDA Foreman 500 wouldn't trade either of them
Honda's Auto shift is garbage. Ours has been serviced and still gets in stuck in 1st gear.
Horrible transmission, drove one and only got down the road before I turned around and parked it. It's DEFINITELY NOT seamless, it shifts so hard into gears it feels like it's going to blow apart.
Cvts suck in cars and they suck in atvs
👎kill the music 👎
Honda, the most boring ATV you will own for 20 years.
100% BS
