I remember when they used to have the bus tours through Beverly Hills and the movie star homes. Doris Day was riding her bicycle and stopped to talk to us on the bus and pointing out several homes of celebs we might have missed. We pushed down the windows on the bus as she sat on her bike on the sidewalk and answered questions. She was so sweet.
While it may seem like a cute experience, I'm not sure if sitting on a tour bus and just hearing about the stars from a celebrity is really worth it. Maybe I'd love to discover more interesting things about Beverly Hills without being dominated by celebrity stories.

correction marthavalor! Doris Day's son, Terry Melcher, DID NOT rent his house to Sharon Tate & Roman Polansky! Terry Melcher did not own that house; he was renting it as well from the owner, who also lived on the property in the smaller guest house. Terry was renting the main larger French Country cottage and living there with his then girlfriend, Candice Bergen. However, you are very correct to say that Doris Day told him to get away from the place ASAP because the Manson Family, Charles Manson in particular, was hanging around and began pestering Terry for a record deal. Terry didn't think they were talented enough, and he tried to ask his mom Doris if she would allow him to produce Manson on one of her labels. At a party, after taking a good look at him and his behavior, she apparently said "There's no fucking way I'd have you on any of my labels!" She was known to be blunt by this time with business matters. but this put her son Terry at odds with a nut-looney, who was also one of the CIA's mind-control assets (See MK Ultra). so she put her son up at one of her beach homes in Malibu. Terry & Candice left the rented house (10050 Cielo Drive off Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills) during the wee hours of the morning, with 3 months rent already paid through. About a month later Roman & Sharon move in, as this house was a known hot-spot for the party scene in Hollywood at the time. and Charles Manson continued to stalk and pester the new tenants, probably thinking that Melcher & Day owned the place and would get messages to Melcher. Eventually Manson found out which house in Malibu Terry was living at and began to stalk it a bit, before deciding to brutally murder everyone staying at Melcher's previous rented place. Very unfortunate for Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger (heiress to the Folger Coffee fortune), Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowsky, and Steven Parent, who just happened to be staying there when the CIA mind-control zombie asset (Manson) struck. but yes, Miss Day had strong intuition
You put a sign up next to her photo indicating she had a strong libido. If so, why not be up front about it. It certainly would be no different than other major Hollywood stars. She was great in everything they put her in and could do it all: sing, dance, or act, plus genuinely nice.
I always loved Doris Day, maybe because I knew little of her personal life and it was the t.v. and on - screen image that I saw. I still believe though that she had a big heart in spite of her troubles. As was commented by another viewer, why do some women hook up with the biggest losers and then whine about their miserable life?
@@thevintagearchives I can't remember the name of the movie but Doris Day's character has been invited to a posh restaurant as a precursor to what she believes is a proposal of marriage. The man turns out to be a false cad and Doris plays the character from joy and anticipation to shock, realization, anger and finally bitter sadness all while not moving from the same chair. It was at that moment I knew that she was the very best I had ever seen.
Despite the terrible Hollywood typecasting (which nailed her to "one image"), Doris Day was one of the sexiest women I've ever seen, especially later in life (check out her appearance on Johnny Carson). And her work as an animal advocate was so important at a time when that movement had barely gotten started. Once she "stopped" movie production because one scene called for her to ride behind a truck full of "horribly" caged chickens. She demanded they be released and rewrite the scene. -- They did (both).
I remember when they used to have the bus tours through Beverly Hills and the movie star homes. Very unfortunate for
Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger (heiress to the Folger Coffee fortune), Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowsky, and Steven Parent, who just happened to be staying there when the CIA mind-control zombie asset (Manson) struck. but yes, Miss Day had strong intuition
You omitted her television series "The Ghost and Mrs Muir"
That wasn't Doris.
The narrator ruins this whole video!
The girl next door? I don’t think so.
Doris Day was an incredible actress.
Couldn't agree more!
Despite what I heard in this video, I say she was a wonderful lady. I do remember her TV show and the theme song "Que sera sera".
