I'm 78 now but when I was just a boy, probably early to mid 1950s, she played Calamity Jane and sang the song "The Deadwood Stage". From the first time I saw her I fell in love with her and will love her till the day I die. She was beautiful and pure class.

I am a 73 yr old male and I fell in LOVE with Doris when I first saw that same movie as a boy...For me though, it eas the song "Secret Love" that did it. I was 7 or 8 yrs old and had a pinup of Doris on my wall where she's dressed in Buckskins brandishing six guns... Much later in life, I told this story to my lover who was bi-sexual and she told me she fell in LOVE with Doris for that same song (Secret Love)...It was the first time she thought of herself as bi-sexual.

I remember when they used to have the bus tours through Beverly Hills and the movie star homes. Doris Day was riding her bicycle and stopped to talk to us on the bus and pointing out several homes of celebs we might have missed. We pushed down the windows on the bus as she sat on her bike on the sidewalk and answered questions. She was so sweet.

Doris Day was a stone cold fox. Gorgeous without being over the top. Sexy without being vulgar.
I loved her role in "Pillow Talk", and especially how she looked in that tight white skirt when she first met Rock Hudson.
In real life, her appearance on The Tonight Show in that mauve top was legendary. She knew what she had going on and wasn't about to hide it. Perhaps she had grown a little weary of the 'good girl' persona.
In any case, she made it all work for a long career that she managed on her own terms. She was special.

Why are people so focused on tearing down icons like Doris Day? In her interviews, she never expressed any resentment of the roles she was given. As mentioned early in this video, she DID play a variety of roles from Musicals, Comedies, and dramas. She had a tremendous career as a Band Singer, Recording Artists, and Movie Star. It is to her credit that managed a successful career in contrast to a challenging personal life.

I have to agree with you. Funny though so called experts today say today's automobiles are safeer than our pre-1990 autos. Yet you can watch videos today of semis run 65 mph and broadside a large SUV and the SUV disentagrates. Tell me how that's safer. Doris accident just showed that someone was looking out for her.

Day was quoted in her autobiography how much she liked "well hung" men. It was an open secret her affinity for relationships with LA pro athletes like Maury Wills of Dodgers and Elgin Baylor of Lakers.

I was a young teenager in the '50s and all I can say about Doris Day is that after each time seeing her on the screen all I dreamt of was that she should be my mother, my sister, my sweetheart, my teacher, my neighbor. Just not the inaccessible Doris on the big screen. I saw Doris, I saw stars and rainbows.

My Dady lied to me when I was 8 years old . I saw a few of her movies , fell in love with her & asked him ,since I couldn’t marry mom , if I could marry Doris Day . He said yes but I’d have to grow up a few more years ! My adoration lasted a lifetime . I’d told my wife that I’d follow Doris down any isle of marriage anytime !

I am in my 70(s) and whether she was real or not I had the perfect Barometer to determine that and that was my Grandmother. She could read people like an X Ray capturing the image of your lungs. She looked at Doris as a woman that could hold her own in that challenging business and still maintain her dignity and self-respect and respect the sensitivity of her audience. She was 1st class all the way. If anyone want perfection you will not find it anywhere in this world so judge according to the world of imperfections that surround us all!!!!
