Arteta is justifying the loss aganist Bayern, saying "14 years" or "inexperienced". The game against Bayern was finished before the whistle where we have no way, no ideas, and no game plan to do next after we are behind 1-0. Arteta is actually clueless and out of his scope what to do and how to do. His mindset is all about "we dont have enough individual qualities" and "we needa buy players" . And the other problem is, he would rather start with the same players that can''t run and lose the game than taking on the different bench players and see the changes that is ridiculous.

Most certainly. Look at Man City squad management. There's no way you can rely on only 13/14 players throughout a 8/9 month season, then play the rest utterly sparingly. Burnout in April, as expected.

The frustrating thing with Havertz dropping into the Mid-Field is that he looks like he wants Nothing to do with the ball when it comes to him and tries to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Well you got it wrong. Havertz not really a long distance passing midfielder. By instinct he’s a finisher and a passing hub in the final third. When he slots into midfield he becomes more of a defensive midfielder who can dribble the ball up.
Don’t be frustrated because clearly you keep hoping he becomes a Jorginho or a Rice who can pass the ball long.
Cole Palmer has scored more PL goals in his first full PL than Nketiah has scored since he made his debut in 2017. As a fan of arsenal that’s disturbing how he’s still at the club
This is why Liverpool and City are overall being managed better than us because Klopp and Pep are very comfortable with using substitutes and trusting in those players, while resting most of the players at the same time. So many talents on that Arsenal bench that are just wasting their potentials and it's so sad

It's frustrating to see us at the end of yet another season where the first 11 is clearly dead on their feet with 6 games left. We need to prioritize cover for Saka this window, because he can't play every game again. The guy is going to be burnt out by 25 or 26.

Omg James..I have been saying exactly this for months! Thankyou for finally bringing this to light. The squad management by Arteta has frankly been horrendous.
Saka could be on the wing alone and people will say he's doubled up. Martinelli can have 3 players around him and they'll say he should do better one on one.

I can’t understand why Arteta would sub martinelli in stead of Saka I that scenario, he had done nothing, and then finished the game having done nothing, which we’ve seen the last handful of games Saka has played.
Saka favouritism is getting ridiculous. Even last year when Martinelli was miles ahead of Saka, people still favoured Saka a lot

I tend to agree that the two players aren't judged similarly but I also don't think one is treated much more fairly than the other
It's so obvious to us fans that we need to sign some forwards (mainly a striker and a winger) and maybe a midfielder. Saka's performance levels have seriously dropped, same as last season.
Yet, all im seeing are reports on arsenal being linked to diomande, a CB.
Arteta's man management in crunch time has been poor. He trusts just 13-14 players in our squad. So of course, they are going to get burnt out come april.
Also, arteta's tactics have been off lately. He keeps havertz on and pushes him to midfield whilst taking jorginho off. For what exactly?? Our midfield gets run over as there's no balance.
The gap between the starters and some of the bench players has been growing too fast in terms of quality. That’s one issue I notice. Our starting XI is so strong across many positions, but there’s unfortunately too many bench options that can’t legitimately compete with the XI for places. Nelson, Nketiah and maybe ESR are all in that category imo.
We’ll need more squad depth in the summer. That’s for sure.
Our wingers have no tricks up their sleeve. Martinelli and Saka can't take anyone on and dribble past them. Look at how Sane and Gnabdy cut through our fullbacks. Two starting wingers who can't take on anyone is a huge disadvantage.
No wonder why we've gone on such a downfall since the start of that knockout first leg against Bayern. We don't have players that Arteta can trust in replacing key positions except maybe Tomiyasu and Trossard. If the rest of the PL season is consistent in wins then it's kind of obvious that fatigue might be the issue in the last stages of the season.
What’s really annoying is the games we have lost this season haven’t been because our opponents were elite or much better than us, we just didn’t play to our potential and that’s why it’s quite sad
Last year we all forgot Ramsdales poor brain farts early in games. He had them and we moved on. We all forgot zinchenkos errors on the left hand side and how for instance his error and lack of pace cost us against Liverpool. We forgot when partey became sloppy in games and cost us against west ham. Arteta didn’t forget. He replaced Ramsdale with Raya, zin with Timber, partey with rice.
Mark my words, saka’s lackluster performances and no cover on that side won’t go unnoticed. Martinelli gets dropped because we have someone of quality on that side on the bench. Saka, we don’t.
Looking ahead, I see Havertz and Jesus coming from the bench next season. We're in need of a quality winger to compete in Saka's position in thw way can get rest, a top quality #8, a left-back, a center-back, and a skilled playmaker to rest Odegaard!
which is crazy considering we just spent so much on havertz and hes by and far on the highest wages
The only thing this match showed me is we need 1 or 2 WORLD CLASS players now.
For example musiala showed his level in that game. He was easily the best player on the pitch.
We need those stars, but we're looking at another £250m window which is fine but it's not easy

The team that started Bayern was the team we thought would start Villa. Maybe we would have beaten villa maybe it would have prepared us for Bayern.
we gotta call it what it is, poor squad management. partey has been fit for over a month but didn’t get the minutes required to build him up to start such a big game like this. same can be said for vieira who we need in the final third…
Jsmes, you are right here and you were right in your post game interview. No shame in losing to bayern. I actually think bayern will win cl. Could arteta have done better in game, yes, would it mske a difference, unclear, but worth a try. Two things worth mentioning on the game, first, looks like teams are starting to figure out sort of our one dimensional way of playing, thats a concern. Obviously a second 8 would have helped to have a plan b (or if esr got some chances). Also when plsying against a deeper block, i would play trissard in false 9, he was good against low block before and he is more creative than havertz. Second, on team getting tired in second half, arteta s press is relentless and that takes a lot out of the players, especially midfield. Liverpool uses hard pressing too but klopp always refreshes his midfield, even to the point of playing youngsters just to freshen things up, thats just shows you how important it is to rotate when you press that hard. Arteta is notoriously bad at rotating, and with so many games that takes a toll. On graham, he is making excuses for teta by saying that he doest trust them, first, ALL of the players are now his, so if you dont trust him sell them or why buy them. Esr and partey played fine vs luton, havent really been seen since. We waited for partey to come back, haven't really seen him. Some of arteta s decisions this season have been a headscratcher, especially havetz playing in midfield for half a season. 3 years in a row of weird decisions is starting to become a pattern. Arteta is at risk of becoming the poch of arsenal (guy who brought the team back into the limelight but ultimately haven't won anything and will be forgotten). And ppl say he doesnt have the squad, we spend a ton of monet every year but never have the squad, something doesn't add up. I still thibk teta can win something major but its teally frustrating to see basic mistakes unfold in front of your eyes. if he keeps up the mistakes every year like this, he ll be the poch of arsenal
I think Arsenal are facing this issue because of getting knocked out of the League cup and FA cup early. These are the two cups where we can rotate. In the PL we need to play the main squad almost all matches. To his credit against teams like Burnley, Luton etc, Arteta has tried to rotate the squad, but since the competition so intense, he doesn’t risk the fringe players.
How can you have a crap game and never be taken off. I.e. Havertz and Saka. It’s not doing anything for the players as they know no matter what, they won’t be taken off. This manager is not good for us and this is the problem with him. I want a ruthless manager, intelligent and rationale. Someone like Simone perhaps who could be coming to the end with Athletico. Watch, Man U may even get him!
Exactly that squad rotation is weird. ESR got man of the match recently then back on the bench completely. Nelson started one prem game and has been injury free. Trust him more and rest saka. The players are getting tired now with no rest and the subs have no run of consistency in game time to do anything when thrown on with ten mins to go. That’s the issue.
It's incredible to me. Saka limping around for the last 4 weeks and still won't give sub him for Nelson or Smith Rowe. Like he's basically ineffective making us play 10 v 11 in these big games..
There are numerous areas for improvement, such as increasing the speed and precision of ball movement, finishing and decision making, improving free kicks, and ensuring our counterattacks to be deadly. Everytime when progress the ball, they need to look more scarier to opposition's. We can improve in alot of area. We are heading in the right direction. Runing behind and passing accuracy. Sharpness needs to improve as well.
I believed that Vieira would have been an excellent substitute. Despite his shortcomings, he possesses exceptional vision and can make sublime passes. Just imagine if he had been brought on for Saka in the last 10 minutes of the game. The spot kick and the corner kick could have been taken more accurately and precisely. What's the point of having a roster if you're not going to use it?

Others have already mentioned that the SAME mistake has been repeated from last season. Also another recurring mistake was to STRUGGLE to part ways with high earner Ozil, big transfer Pepe (left for nothing), then also Aubameyang. Then goal keepers are being changed quite frequently. Leno to Ramsdale to Raya. Vierra has not played, Smith Rowe should have been sold, Cedric???

Wouldnt be shocked if arteta walks in the summer if we dont win the league. The interview he did at the start of the season saying he doubted himself in the summer and had to think long and hard about what he wanted to do. I genuinly feel like arteta loves the club that much that if he feels he cant get us acoss the line he would walk away to let someone else try for the good of the club
We need to get 2 first 11s like City before we can manage the minutes better. Remember how much minutes the Leicester & LFC squads got in their legs in their title seasons. They got lucky with the fitness. In any case KSE have backed Arteta and have promised more investment so maybe we can get a striker, a sub for Saka, a RB and another midfielder.
Arteta is busy giveing directions to the player. I admire that as it's a crucial aspect of coaching. However, sometimes he needs to sitdown/stand and read the game quietly. The assistant should continue in directing the players at that time. He subs are off sometime. He will improve definitely.
Squad management rubbish. When Arteta changed the players and lost to Aston villa, people said he should have stucked to what was working, Now he did that against Bayern and lost, people come and start saying rubbish like him not managing the squad.

I looked at Gabriel and Saliba, White and Rice, and they are knackered. They played everything this season, and this is what we cannot have. Look at Man City and even Liverpool, near whole-sale changes to the first 11 game to game. Until we have a squad where we can whole sale change the back four (and the keeper also, for that matter), we can’t win anything. Cos everything it’s Apr or May, this script will auto play.
Nope not true, even City does not have an entire quality second 11 to replace the first 11. They just are more willing to rotate throughout the season and so they are more sustainable near the end. Theres guys like Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb and Matheus Nunes have played a lot more minutes each than guys like ESR, Nelson, Vieira.
What annoys me the most is how fans are so blind to see where we have come from in 3 years

Agreed. Why can Arteta not see what everyone else can which is blindingly obvious? Is he trying his best to prove everyone else wrong and in the process show he is a tactical genius, to the detriment of our season?
The only things I agree with here is that taking off Jorginho without replacing with a great midfield passer was a bad choice, and that the minutes have been managed poorly on the most used players. Its an issue that Arteta does not trust any of his second choices.
The most frustrating thing is playing Havertz in midfield. Arteta is too scared of conceding. Havertz makes us compact, but stifles our buildup. I was scratching my head watching him shift to midfield when we needed a goal.
Not often I see my thoughts put into words. Exactly right. All of it. If Arteta doesn't change we're in trouble.

They pile up players, pay them week in/week out and can't trust them enough to play them. Why is @Arsenal, @m8arteta been sentimental about players they can't trust enough to play. It's affecting the squad enormously, no back up to many of the 1st team players.
Somebody has to explain to me how a supposedly fit partey doesnt get minutes on Sunday or on Wed?? And dont give me that rusty baloney. How else is a player able to regain match sharpness without playing?? I thought he and smith rowe did a decent job against luton and should've at least started against villa. Rice is completely burnt out can barely cover the ground anymore. Saka havertz odegaard all look like ghosts out there. Throw on another body my goodness.. Terrible squad mgmt. I'm i the only that see the 2nd half drop offs is just down to outright fatigue???

James... I fully agree with you about squad management, I also think we have rotated poorly. However, the squad is not good enough and not trusted by Arteta.
But if it's not trusted by Arteta that's his fault... he built almost all this squad!
We needed Zinchenko to come on WHEN we took Jorginho off, but Arteta was afraid of matching Zinchenko against Sane. But with that said, the squad management has been poor because the last game against Villa, after 70 minutes we were dead. If we are sticking to 15 or 16 players, then it means that Arteta looks at the other players and doesn't consider them 1st team players.
I am also irritated with the Martinelli substitutes. He is the one man you need towards the end of the game when you play on the counter. Even put him at CF, just get him involved more, because he is a clinical finisher.
We desperately need a striker that can link the final third with our other attacking options. I could be wrong here, but as far as I've been counting, we've yet to score a goal when Eddie comes on the pitch in 2024. Even when we were smashing teams before the international break, Eddie comes on and our attack becomes stagnate. I 100% agree it's minutes mismanagement, the boys look knackered, but that's kind of a result of the lack of depth. The only positions we safely have depth is the DM and wing back roles. We're lacking an 8 and 9. Rice is an amazing player, but he's not a natural 8 at all. He's a good ball carrier, but his passes have been way too heavy and they're hardly ever progressive, more often than not he's rocketing the ball directly at someone's knee or he's passing it behind/to the side of them, so instead of making forward runs, our attackers have to backpedal or stop running to control the ball, so it becomes a matter of 1 on 1 battles, which are actually 2 on 1 because Saka and Martinelli always get doubled up on. It's been like this all season. Havertz and Rice have disrupted the midfield fluidity and ball progression.
We have to accept that the squad is not big and quality enough to compete in two fronts our first eleven is good enough but we need quality on the bench which we lack now!!!

James I'm sorry but I feel this is quite a revisionist take.. When I look at a Carlo Ancelotti.. plays with 14/15 players max... Pep the same.. Klopp the same if he didn't have the injuries. Also your recency biais is blinding you, for the subs.. that's what he did in the previous game that did lead to us equalsing with Havertz in 8! Please remember that that's where Havertz played primarily when we were beating teams by 5s and 6s early in the year!!
We needed Jesus on the pitch but Havertz is still a goal threat for us and thus is a better bet than bringing on a Partey imo.
The stat you read at the end is also very flawed as ESR, Parteywere injured for large parts of the season.. I think Nelson too? Secondly the sub percentage stat does speak to favouritism but that is completely normal ! I'm almost certain all teams have similar stats for their forward players! Especially because it's clear that Martinelli, Trossard and Nelson all thrive in the same positions!! If Jesus was fit all season I believe we would have seen a little more rotation between him and Saka.

Last season he burnt out Partey, but Arsenal fans instead crucified Partey. Arsenal went out and bought Rice and we are seeing similar results!

Why not use him sometimes to cover Rice who is now burning out? Saka is on fumes..what about sometimes play Jesus there or Nelson. Ben White has suffered in the hands of Mikel, its actually harassment. Odegaard has been killed..you paid high for Viera, trust him for smaller games

Arteta needs to get bench players he can trust. That means a new winger a new CAM a new CB and a new striker and CDM to back up the current 11. He has some fixes within the club but he will need to spend big again to compete

You talk about the squad management- the minutes to play of the players. Here are my questions to Arteta:
I really don't understand why we still keep playing Rice+ Jorginho all the time even the midfield looked jaded and don't even give Partey + ESR any of the game time. What is he thinking? Are both Partey+ ESR not up to his standard as a substiute or a rare starting on the big game?
I also have no clue why he needs to keep Saka on the pitch even he has the bad performance and he would rather take off Martinelli in the second half and take on Trossard as his usual practise?
If he does not rate Partey, ESR and Martinelli well, why we need to stick with 4-2-3-1 formation? Why can't we change the formation differently to different opponents we faced? Is he lazy one season the team could only deploy one formation or he is too obssessed with the same formation 4-2-3-1? Or the reason is that the coaching staff they are actually not good enough and can't help Arteta by giving him any advice to try different formation in the game?
Instead of buying the players with individual qualities using the large amount of funds, is the formation change in different games the one of the solutions to the the minutes of to play of the squad management.
After Villa's defeat in the post press conference Arteta said that the team lack the players with individual qualities. I really doubt that the qualities of our players we have in the current squad are even worser than Villa.
This season we spent 105m for Rice and 65m for Havertz but the result is not improving. I really doubt we are on the right track if the owner still devote him with the huge amount of budgets next season to get "the quality player" in for 4-2-3-1 or to replace the first thing he should do is to review different formation we could deploy according to what resource we have not just sticking with one 4-2-3-1 formation and takes this opportunity to sell and clear out all of the deadwoods and the players he dislikes in the summer first before signing the new players so as to better allocate the resources we have had right now.

@@georgec5212 they haven't won the league in 20 years and never won the CL. I don't know where their entitlement comes from. As long as this team keeps improving and we are competing I will be optimistic. People seem to forget we are up against Guardiola and the financial juggernaut in Citeh.

It's easy to say he won't win any major titles because the reality is Arsenal will always be underdogs. The fact that we are now part of the conversation and keep improving despite the landscape shows how good Arteta is. I will be more sceptical once I actually see a decline rather than make simple predictions.

If he does not win the UCL or PL the next season, that is enough for his tuiton and he should go and we need to hire a much experienced manager to take Arsenal to the next level. Last season despite we bottled the title what I can see is the team is rising but this season namely the squad management, the player favourism, the rigid approach to the only one formation, the game plan after we are behind (Per my memory, is there any game this season we are behind but we could come back with a win except Luton?) are full of question marks. Also, the mismanagement, overuse and team moral of players many internal issue more I feel like the boat of Arsenal is sinking. He needs to really take this opportunity to clear out all the deadwoods in the summer in one-go and stop excusing anymore the team has no individual qualities if he can't get rid of them because all the squad players should be capable to play every 90 minute.
James its not squad management. We cant bring on players like Nketiah, Nelson and ESR. They ain't good enough for this level and its evident. We need more signings. They were given new contracts so we could sell them this summer for money and invest in higher level players.

We need high quality players to compete with and rest saka, odegaard and declan rice. Partey and jesus are washed up.
That's the biggest problem. Jack Grealish can start as a winger but is challenged by the likes of Jeremy Doku who is an absolute gifted and talented player. Saka doesn't have that competition, and neither does Martinelli. Trossard could challenge Martinelli but hasn't really proved himself to be anything other than a super sub and Jesus isn't peforming well at all.
