In my opinion, your simple explanation of how to succeed with UA-cam, is probably the best advice I've seen of all! You Tube on, You Tuber!! HAVE A GOOD DAY,
Thank you Bret! I'm going to start making math, physics, and possibly some chemistry videos. Anyone seeing this comment please feel free to start making suggestions lol.
You're welcome! If you want more advice on making UA-cam videos, I've got some other helpful tutorial videos on my channel. I'm also starting a 3-week workshop where I show you everything I know about making videos. (The link is in the description!)
Brett, Thank you for putting this together. I have felt overwhelmed with just the thought of starting a UA-cam channel but you make it so simple. You broke it down into small chunks and you didn't move so fast that I had to constantly pause and replay throughout the entire video. I think that sometimes instructors are so comfortable with their material that they forget to slow it down for those of us that are trying to learn a "new thing". Thanks
It took me like 2 days to get this layout. I only have 7 subscribers.. only have like 30 views but it doesnt stop me doing what i love to do! I keep on going and maybe one day I get my first 100 subscribers.. It doesnt bother me to stop doing what I love to do.
Well it looks like you uploaded your first video TODAY! :) The more videos you upload, the more subscribers you will get. When I started this channel, I would get about 1 subscriber a day. That kept happening for the first few months, and I kept uploading videos -- at least once a week. Now I have over 30,000 subs. So just stick with it, and keep making videos!
Making videos is easy. Making good quality videos people want to stick around and watch is the key. I've been trying to work on audience retention. Thanks for sharing this video! Always trying to learn from the masters 😍
I can see your channel if I just click on your profile picture (next to your comment)! To upload from a phone, you need the UA-cam app. But to upload from a computer (laptop) you can just click the "Upload" button in the upper right. Enjoy making videos!
I'm just a dude passing by, trying to figure out how the hell I'd make a UA-cam video if I get around to it, and I just have a question-- if anyone can, what are some recording recommendations for stopmotions/animations for a Samsung phone?
Did you ever get an answer about using the Samsung Phone? I see where you said Thanks! but I don't see a reply to your question. I would think you could because it records videos.
Cool. You can upload videos to UA-cam and mark them as "Private" if you want to. If you do that, nobody can watch them unless you list their UA-cam channel name. Another option is to upload them to UA-cam and mark them as "Unlisted". That means that people who have the web address for the video can watch it, but nobody else can (except you).
Well, when I search for "James Harness", I find a lot of videos about the guy from the TV show "Gold Rush", but I don't see your channel. I think it would be easier to be able to tell people "just go to tinyurl.com/JamesHarness". But that may not be the best solution for everybody. It was just a suggestion!
You are very welcome! I'm really glad you liked it! Thank you for leaving a comment. If you want more UA-cam tutorials, I have a lot more videos on my channel: how to be comfortable on camera, how to come up with good ideas for videos, how to get more views & subscribers, etc. :)
First thing: people find new videos by searching. Make sure your video titles, descriptions, and tags are things that people might type into the search box. (I made a really helpful video on this! You can find it on my channel.) Second thing: in your video, ask people to comment, and ask them to subscribe. Third thing: when people comment, reply to them! Be nice! Be friendly! Be helpful! That has worked well for me. People like it when you reply to them, and they subscribe. :)
My video on "titles, descriptions and tags" explains it pretty well. The general concept is this: Think about what people would type into UA-cam search when they're looking for a video like yours. If it's about washing a dog, they might type in "wash your dog" or "how to wash a dog" or "clean your pet". So you use those phrases as TAGS. You can also use 1 or 2 of the phrases as your video title. And in the video description, write a few sentence that include those phrases too, but don't just list those phrases because UA-cam may remove your video.
Hi Brett thanks for your great answer!! Yes I follow you and your advice and I feel I need to watch more videos of you to learn about it....Thank you for your tips and enjoy life ! Anna
Thank god you explained it very well I have seen may videos of famous know youtubers and they just said "u need these skills and hardware" but never showed the steps to creating a channel. After viewing 15 videos that were not helpful at all I found your video and I want to thank you for being real. Your awesome!
Wow, thank you for the comment! I have a bunch of other tutorial videos too, on specific topics: How to be comfortable on camera, how to come up with good ideas for videos, how to shoot a video with your phone, how to get more views and subscribers, etc. Plus I'm launching a SECRET PROJECT on December 7 that you would probably be interested in! So check out the announcement video I upload on December 7. :)
Hey creators, need your help. I have about 15 different events shot that are just little clips (3 to 90 seconds long). E.g. We went to europe for holidays and I have a bunch of little clips I want to make into a story. Any suggestions in how I can make this into a nice story or examples where similar videos exist. I don't wan't to cut the clips into some sort of a song and leave it at that. However, I am playing a bit with a voiceovers (a written script), ambient sounds etc. All of your suggestions are more than welcome! Thank you in advance people.
Edit the clips to cut out any parts that wouldn't interest a viewer. Then arrange the clips into a logical sequence. A voiceover would probably be appropriate, as would some background music. But make sure the music doesn't obscure your voice...keep it at a lower volume. A quick YT search for vacation videos should give you a general idea of what works. It sounds like you have editing software, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
Thank you for the compliment! But when you record a video, you can only upload it to your own UA-cam channel. You can't upload to someone else's UA-cam channel. :(
Thanks Brett! Your absolutely correct on how many videos are out in "You-Tube land",that state how to create a Channel. Yours is the best. It's concise and clear to understand about what your conveying. The other videos I saw, were fast talkers and with no direction.. So thanks again!!
Thank you very much for the compliment! :D If you want any more UA-cam tips, there are plenty of other videos on my channel. I tried to put them in simple categories so people could find what's useful to them. :-)
Do you mean the "sign in" button? A lot of people ask about that. UA-cam hides it if you are already signed in!! So just skip that step, because you're already signed in.
Just started my channel a week ago and I'm actually feeling confident about it (: really hope this turns out well. For me and the small youtubers out there!
I watched your last 2 videos, and they were fine! You know exactly what you want to say, and you say it. You keep a smile on your face. That's better than a lot of new UA-camrs! Just a few small tips: 1) Look at how other big UA-camrs "frame" the shot. That means look at where their head is placed in the video. It may be to the left, or to the right, but their eyes are always towards the top of the frame. You can see some of their chest and shoulders, and the top of their head is right at the top of the frame. So do that in your videos. 2) Make sure to have something in the background. You shot one of your videos in front of a white wall, and you shouldn't do that. If it's a white background, at least have a closed door behind you. Or a bookcase, or a poster or picture, your bed, something like that. But keep making videos! Have fun, smile, and know what you want to tell everybody. You're doing fine! :D
I can't even learn lots of money from my channel, and I've been making videos for 10 years. You can probably make a little money, though. You need to set up AdSense, so that UA-cam has a way to pay you. And then you need to let UA-cam "monetize" your videos. That means they put ads on them. The more times the ad plays, the more money you make. Like I said, it's not very much money. But it's kind of nice to get it anyway.
I actually got to make money online easily thanks to *LIVEONLINEJOB. COM* They offer tons of easy online jobs where you can make some cash every day from home easily. Go check them out if interested. It’s free to join. Hope this helps
You are welcome! I have a LOT more videos with tips on making UA-cam videos. Things like how to come up with good ideas for videos, how to be comfortable on camera, how to get more views and subscribers, etc.
Great video, and even greater tips delivered in the most interesting manner. Hoping to start an educational video channel, and this is the first video I could watch to the fullest given it was so engaging.
THank YOU! I have been trying to figure this out and get a start… This would be fun and now its not so scary. I use iMovie and have a camera, time to figure this out.
I used iMovie to edit this video! My version was old, but I remember liking it a lot. If you want more tips and advice, there are a whole lot more UA-cam tutorial videos on my channel! :D
Thank you Joseph!!! If you're thinking about making videos, there are a lot of other tutorials on my channel. They're all informative and quick too! And they might be helpful to you. :)
Thank you to Brett, this was super helpful and easy to follow. I like your style. I am new to this but really passionate about a project and utube is the answer. I will need a lot of practice.
Fantastic! Making your first video (and then your second video) is the hardest part! There are a lot of other videos on my channel if you'd like some more advice: how to come up with good ideas for videos, how to be comfortable on camera, how to get more views & subscribers, etc. :)
Hello I want to create a UA-cam channel, thank you for your video. What camera do you use? How do I make the videos looks clear like yours? And how do I edit the videos.
Thanks Maria! Since you subbed, you would see my new videos ... except I'm not really uploading anymore! Lucky for you, I've got a LOT of videos on this channel. They might improve your video-making skills!
It was hard to do. I had to pay a friend to make the picture. Then, I had to get a song for my name. Then, I had to record the song, with 2-part harmony (2 people singing). Finally, I played the song while the picture was showing. An easier way to do it is to visit a channel like Velosofy. He gives away free channel intros.
Thanks for helping me learn how to make these videos really helped me a lot because my cousin and I never knew how to make a video ever since you made this video video
I am glad it helped! There are a lot of videos on my channel that will teach you different things. I also wrote a book about how to make videos. Just Google "make your own amazing youtube videos"!
Hi Brett! i was curious what camera should i use and what is the max i should spend on it? i plan on doig challenges with my friends so it might get messy. Thanks!!!
How do you put two screens in the same shot, like , you could have yourself talking about the topic in the top right corner and have yourself recording something in front of you that takes up a majority of the screen shot. Thanks
I'm glad this helped, Vanessa! I've got a bunch of other UA-cam tutorial videos if you want more advice (how to come up with good video ideas, how to be comfortable on camera, how to increase your views and subscribers, etc.!).
That's fantastic! Congratulations on starting to make videos! If you want some more UA-cam tips, there are a lot of videos on my channel: how to come up with good ideas for videos, how to be comfortable on camera, how to get more views & subscribers, etc. :)
Hi thank you for sharing! I have a quick question.. my sister and I just started our own Channel together to share our experience living in Germany together and growing our wellness biz here at my studio, so we want to base it on Healing, health and travel.. do you think that is too many Topics? thank you.... with Light and Love
Thanks yaar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't knew how to make a channel on youtube thank u sooo much for helping me if I will be success in making my channel I will subscribe u surely ............................
hey Brett, how do you make a video where the screen shows a photograph, while you narrate a story, with sound effects? Does that take special equipment? Thanx
Do you have any recommendations of "screen recording apps" for your laptop that are free? (windows) Who'd also record the audio of the video is being recorded (If I can even put it that way..) Anyways, I'd be glad if you could give me some advice mate. Btw I subbed XD
Sorry but I don't know of any free screen-recording apps! :( Thanks for the sub, too. Unfortunately I kinda stopped uploading videos. But I've got a bunch on my channel that are still good that you can watch!
Hi! I agree with CharlesXavier: any SLR camera will make great UA-cam videos. But you don't *need* to buy a camera. I sometimes shoot videos on my phone! They still look great! I made a video with 5 tips on how to shoot with a phone. It's on my channel, if you want to see it.
HI Sebrina! I'm actually writing a book myself, and it will have a chapter on editing. But I don't know when it will come out; probably closer to the end of the year. But I think that editing is simpler than people say it is. Whatever editing program you use, you just need to know how to put your video(s) into it, how to "cut" your video (like cutting a piece of string into 2 pieces of string), how to delete bits of video that you don't like, and how to "export" your final video. That's all the technical stuff. The artistic/creative part is pretty simple too. Just cut out all the silences in your video, and cut out all the parts where you make a mistake. If you do that, your video will look and sound pretty good! I edit each shot pretty tightly; that is, if I want to have a shot of me saying something, I will cut off every little frame before the first sound comes out of my mouth, and I will cut off every frame after the last sound comes out of my mouth at the end of the shot. I should really make a video about this. I just haven't had the time! I'll do it some day. But don't wait for my video before you make your own video(s)! The most important thing on UA-cam is just to upload a video, and then wait a few days or a week and upload another one. You have to upload every week to make your viewers happy. :)
You are welcome. :) A few days ago I finished writing the chapter about editing in my book, so the information was still fresh in my mind. Plus I'd just like everyone to know how to edit videos! It's intimidating to a lot of people.
Rules of a successful channel
•have fun
•do it for yourself no others
•don't be hungry for subscribers just do it expecting nothing out of it.
ItsAryan good

LoL idk why the way u said that makes it seem like ur gunna beat off on your channel or something shady like that.
instead of that stupid url thing why cant you just tell people your youtube name then they search for it?
Well, when I search for "James Harness", I find a lot of videos about the guy from the TV show "Gold Rush", but I don't see your channel. I think it would be easier to be able to tell people "just go to tinyurl.com/JamesHarness". But that may not be the best solution for everybody. It was just a suggestion!

Thankyou
How do you get more views/subscribers guys????
First thing: people find new videos by searching. Make sure your video titles, descriptions, and tags are things that people might type into the search box. (I made a really helpful video on this! You can find it on my channel.)
Second thing: in your video, ask people to comment, and ask them to subscribe.
Third thing: when people comment, reply to them! Be nice! Be friendly! Be helpful! That has worked well for me. People like it when you reply to them, and they subscribe. :)
Hi Brett, I am confused ....what can I write down in tags?
I will watch your videos.....thanks for your help! So kind of you!!

My vids are terrible :(
I watched your last 2 videos, and they were fine! You know exactly what you want to say, and you say it. You keep a smile on your face. That's better than a lot of new UA-camrs!
Just a few small tips:
1) Look at how other big UA-camrs "frame" the shot.
CreatedByBrett do you think I can earn lots of money from my channel?
I can't even learn lots of money from my channel, and I've been making videos for 10 years. You can probably make a little money, though. You need to set up AdSense, so that UA-cam has a way to pay you. And then you need to let UA-cam "monetize" your videos. That means they put ads on them. The more times the ad plays, the more money you make. Like I said, it's not very much money. But it's kind of nice to get it anyway.

Thanks Maria! Since you subbed, you would see my new videos ... except I'm not really uploading anymore! Lucky for you, I've got a LOT of videos on this channel. They might improve your video-making skills!
Who are we talking to
Learned some great things i can apply to my own! Thanks!
Fantastic! There are a lot of other helpful videos on my channel that will teach you more specific things. Check them out!
Great content being an amateur UA-camr every little bit helps thanks for sharing
Great stuff, very entertaining. How do you create a live stream youtube channel? Mike
Thanks Mike! Unfortunately, I don't know about live-streaming on UA-cam. Never done it.
mr brett there is a video of logo in everyvideo of the channel how to create one?
It was hard to do. I had to pay a friend to make the picture. Then, I had to get a song for my name. Then, I had to record the song, with 2-part harmony (2 people singing). Finally, I played the song while the picture was showing.
An easier way to do it is to visit a channel like Velosofy. He gives away free channel intros.
This really helped me. Thank you:)
Wonderful! Thanks for the comment!

Hi Brett! i was curious what camera should i use and what is the max i should spend on it? i plan on doig challenges with my friends so it might get messy. Thanks!!!
How do you put two screens in the same shot, like , you could have yourself talking about the topic in the top right corner and have yourself recording something in front of you that takes up a majority of the screen shot. Thanks
you forgot to mention the most important thing of all, personality, and Brett personality you got it!

Do you have any recommendations of "screen recording apps" for your laptop that are free? (windows)
Who'd also record the audio of the video is being recorded (If I can even put it that way..)
Anyways, I'd be glad if you could give me some advice mate.

Sorry but I don't know of any free screen-recording apps! :(

Thanks for the video im making my own UA-cam channel
hey Brett , which microphone and camera can i use ? i am using Nikon cool pix HD camera . is it ok
hello.i am planing on having my own UA-cam channel. please can you recommend Nikon D camera for shooting my videos and taking photos ?
any SLR camera is more than adequate to make youtube videos.
thank you so much. you're a good man.
np
Hi! I agree with CharlesXavier: any SLR camera will make great UA-cam videos. But you don't *need* to buy a camera. I sometimes shoot videos on my phone! They still look great! I made a video with 5 tips on how to shoot with a phone. It's on my channel, if you want to see it.
im trying to get my nikon D3200 to film via USB and it's not supported :/
I keep hearing that editing is a total nightmare. . is that true? Should I buy a book for learning to edit?
WOW!! Thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply back to me about my question and so quickly too!! =)
You are welcome. :) A few days ago I finished writing the chapter about editing in my book, so the information was still fresh in my mind. Plus I'd just like everyone to know how to edit videos! It's intimidating to a lot of people.

Awesome as always. Ty
