It won't cure advanced OA but can stir up fluid movement and improve microcirculation inside the knee, which may provide some relief. Shockwave is generally safe, especially radial shockwave and people are getting their own units. I've had it before, several times, and a couple of those times the injuries did clear up about a month or two after the final shockwave session. The problem is during the 5 treatments, it's possible to get worse before it gets better, as you are aggravating already injured tissue, and then it can take weeks to months after the final session to see improvement. There's really no way to know if the injury just healed on its own, but doctors are touting a 90% success rate and just from reading testimonials online, it's not even close to that. It's more like 50/50.
I had my first treatment today for my hip I had surgery on 3years ago to fix my labrum! It feels better already I thought I was going to need surgery again. United Healthcare you should cover this procedure.
I'm so disappointed I didn't know about this therapy until recently. I have hand problems and my doctor made it sound like surgery was the only option and tried to perform surgery on my left hand as well which had no carpal tunnel. The Shockwave therapy is what I needed for my thumbs to heal
If the patient has shoulder pain unknown origin, what if the reason be partial tear of tendons and if so can we use shock wave on torn tendons?can it cut the tendon more?
I think it's promising. Since it stimulates blood flow or even can make body make new blood vessels, it can address AVN. I have AVN and recently heard about this therapy. I'll search. When I check on UA-cam I see alot of therapist from India, claiming they can heal AVN patients with this technic but almost all of them is not in English :(
I have Diabetic Neuropathy. I've been trying to find videos about fingers, but can't find them. I know it doesn't effect nerves, but I was hoping to improve circulation.
Hi, shockwave shouldn't be used for diabetic neuropathy. I would suggest trying red light therapy and pulsed EMF for your hands, to improve circulation and cellular function. pulsedemf.com
hi, i have hamstring tendinopathy, hamstring partial tear, and pectoral partial tear, and the muscle-tendon junction. with all these injuries I want to return to competitive powerlifting, boxing, and bodybuilding and was my physiotherapist informed me that you cannot get rid of car tissue once its formed, is this true? he also told me that there is no scientific evidence to suggest that friction therapy works to break up scar tissue, please any help would be very helpful as im 25 and at a bit of a loss at this point in life, thanks
Definitely try shockwave. I can't think of any other modality that is able to deal with scar tissue as effectively. You describe your conditions as "tears" which is a significant injury (as opposed to "strain."). Tendons and ligaments, when torn have very poor regenerative capability, as there are very few living cells in them. You may need surgery, depending on how bad the tear is. I would not place a significant load on the muscles that have a tear as you can get a complete tear. I suggest finding another sport that won't beat up your muscles as much.
Guys, can you pls explain a bit about the frequency of this treatment in order to have the maximum effect? I've been dealing with Heel bursitis for over two months now. So, can it be taken every day for a week or two?
@@painandinjurydoctor Thanks for taking the time to reply! Just one more question. Can the treatments be taken every day at a stretch or should they be spaced out with breaks in between?
Andrew, do you know if the ESWT machine used on you was a percussion or piezoelectric one? There is a big difference. You want a piezoelectric one. Also, it usually takes a couple of treatments for maximum effect.
ESWT is most effective for previously injured and healed connective tissues such as ligaments, tendons and fascia. It won't do much for neuropathy. Try red light therapy for neuropathy, or pulsed EMF. See my site PulsedEMF.com
For suprapatellar Bursitis, what can shock wave do?can we use it for acute conditions?

Wait. Did the doctor say your issue was carpal tunnel? What was it actually and have you yet tried the shockwave therapy

How do we detect muscle adhesions ?
My patients are elderly.I do not think they come with tennis elbow.what conditions we can use on elderly?

This therapy can help in avascular necrosis of hip joints?
It's not for AVN; it's more for scar tissue adhesions.

this is a radial shockwave device

There is a company called softwave tissue regeneration, they are selling a machine that’s $80k. Do you know if it’s a good one?
Sounds overpriced. Are you a doctor, or patient? There are mechanical shockwave machines that are much less expensive.
Guys, can you pls explain a bit about the frequency of this treatment in order to have the maximum effect?

Depends on what you're treating. A calcific tendonitis case may require 3-6 treatments before it heals.

@@ajayj189 Every day is allowable but it also depends on patient comfort. Some people may need to wait a couple of days in between.

It is helpful for paralysed patient or not
if you are asking if shockwave can improve paralysis, the answer is no
I’ve tried once but it didn’t work for me at all.
