    Good video and pleased to see some practical advice for visitors. If you get a chance: please mention "when you reach a passing zone - don't speed up - let the traffic behind you get by. Also re speed - many campervans travel around 80 to 90 kph in a 100kph area. That's ok, probably enjoying the scenery, etc But many kiwis are NOT on holiday, they have a timetable to keep to and expect to be able to drive at 100 kph. So, if you cannot (or don't want to) travel at the open road speed, please use your mirrors and pull over regularly to let others pass. Thank you.

    It is about the same here in Montana. However every time I have to stop for cattle the ones in front of my car start mateing.

    We're used to driving on the left and one lane bridges, there's one around the corner from me. So many similarities to Ireland it'll be a lot less daunting than driving in the U.S.

    Great video. It should also have a reminder to be patient when driving behind a slow vehicle - the speed limit is a maximum, not a minimum!

    Good advice, I have another one, especially for us tourists, don‘t stop for fotoshooting at dangerous spots, just because there is a nice motive to take. Drive a little further, park safely and walk back. When you drive a slow vehicle, like a campervan, use every opportunity to let faster vehicles pass and last but not least, as a tourist, try to avoid driving in the dark😜

    Some handy info there. Very like Irish roads. Same speed limits, windy roads, similar rules of the road. Sooo many slow tourist drivers here too but at least you have passing lanes now and then. Sounds like the cops there are around a lot more. Well used to sheep too. Can't wait to eventually go!

    Be there in a couple months. You should come to the US and drive the blue ridge parkway.

    Sounds daunting...but, I love a challenge. I'm going to Auckland, when this virus lets up, to do the Skywalk. I'm looking forward to hiring a local to drive me around the countryside lol. I'd hate to piss people off with my gawking at the countryside. Thanks a lot for this video.

    Nice video. I've just returned to the UK after 5 weeks in NZ, one thing I did notice was that when I was on H1 and H3 people would sit right up my arse on the single lane sections if I was doing between 95 and 100kph but as soon as there was a passing lane they'd drop right back and not overtake, this despite me often easing off so they wouldn't have to speed to pass. I don't know if this is normal for NZ drivers or I was just having one of those days. Overall I'd rather drive in New Zealand any day than in London

      I do enjoy travelling here, due to the size of the country, most places are achieveable to drive to, ie- whichever island you live on, you can drive around that island in a few days. I live in the south island so most of my vids are filmed there... but late this year or early next year... north island roadtrip!

      the AA wants to make 110 the limit in some areas of NZ, but only the "good roads", and there aren't many "good roads".

    You said not to speed in passing lanes? yet you say we can do 100km/hour on 80-90km/hour. I confuse. I'm guessing you meant for those road that already doing 100 km/hour - still within road speed. see minute 6:08

    Essentially driving in NZ is gladiatorial. The official road code is a 400 page tome which weighs in at 800 grammes. It's written in hundreds of short bullet point word sequences,
    and illustrated with hundreds of computer generated diagramatic illustrations which bear little resemblance to the real world. My suggestion is that visitors should travel by bus or coach.

    • @Y2J
      @Y2J  5 років тому +3

      The way people drive here it should be an 800 page tome. Too easy to get a drivers licence here.

  • @CapitanBastos
    @CapitanBastos 6 років тому +2

    Yes I am looking to come to New Zealand, will driving require a license of sorts? If so, I’m not looking to drive, but rather looking for a driver.

    Stick to the speed limits. I’ve seen too many crash sites where it looks like someone has been speeding and flown off a sudden turn or hit a patch of black ice and spun out

    If more than one car going the same direction comes to a one lane bridge, what's the rule for how many cars to let through before your turn?

    • @Y2J
      @Y2J  5 років тому +1

      If you have the right of way, you don't have to give way unless there is already cars on the bridge going in opposite direction. If there is 1 car opposing you (a) and another one waiting (b) ...and (b) decides to follow (a)... technically you have the right of way (and car B is being inconsiderate), but if you enter the bridge there would obviously be an accident, so don't enter until the other cars are actually giving way to you like they are supposed to.
      So to answer your question, assuming you have the right of way, you only have to let through the cars that are already on the bridge, how ever many cars that is. When traffic on the other side sees you waiting, they should be giving way to you once the car(s) on the bridge are cleared.

      @@Y2J Thanks! Also, are you allowed to turn left on a red light? Here in the US, most (all?) places allow right turn on a red light, wondering if there is a corresponding law in NZ? (Coming in early Feb 2019, so trying to study this driving!)

    • @Y2J
      @Y2J  5 років тому

      No, there isn't a general rule allowing you to turn left on red lights, that's a no. @@mbvescovo
