@@KPJohnson Hey Kevin! I don't know if you'll read this, but I just bought my very own Sterling Stingray 34! Your video was definitely one of the videos that helped me decide to buy this bass. It's everything I wanted it to be and more. I absolutely love it. This is my first big spending bass and how it feels definitely reflects how much it cost. Can't wait to keep slapping! Thanks Kevin!
Great video, love the facts and learn something new. I think your channel is good enough to have lots of view, but probably you might have to invest a little bit on the "background" and video quality. Kids nowadays wont appreciate quality content over quality image. I'm subscribing and hopefully will see you grow! Best of luck!
Great video! I own a SBMM SR5 (Ray 35), Neptune Blue with a Quilted Maple Top and matching headstock, and I love it. Mine weighs right in at 10 pounds, but it’s a five string. These are awesome basses for the money (mine was about $1k).
I had a 4 and 5 string SUBs. The bridges are crappy and the preamps died (not the battery but started crackling and then no tone or volume). I got a Sterling Stingray CA now. The bridge and preamp work great so far...
Thumbed up :-) I love the history lesson, but i can imagine that many people dont have patience for a 18 min long "review/history lesson". Perhaps you could split it into two videos? Or perhaps make it two segments and put in timestamps? like History 0:00 Review 5:08
Thanks! I'm learning as I go. I'm working on cutting down my video lengths and hope the newer ones are more succinct. I may revisit some of the older videos and make some changes. I think you'll see my Dingwall is a two parter, three if you count this weeks video that will be posted soon.
Why post a complaint about the length of the review. If it’s too long for you, don’t watch it. There are many on UA-cam. Not being an ass but I can’t wrap my head around how people who have the option to not listen or watch something they take issue with would rather complain and request people change what they do to accommodate you rather than just go find something you enjoy. Many newer players may not realize the history behind the instrument and Leo Fenders contributions. They might learn something and be intrigued.
You can always "SKIP" ahead since it is a video. If you really appreciated what he did you wouldn't complain about such petty things when you enter another mans home. Make your own channel if you want to be a critic of other channels.
@@TheMlvswoll how would he react if I went into his house and started telling his wife and children what to do? Although it seems they could probably use the lesson!
I had the SUB a few years back and I liked the highs at 50% and thr bass full on and it sounded sweet but unfortunately I didn't appreciate it it enough and sold it. The Ray24 or 34 is on my list 👍
Ha if you look at the current prices on the Ray 34 they are up there with the EB Sting Ray. I am seeing them for like $1,200 and up! I own one and I dig it, a bit on the heavy side.
I purchase a Sterling Ray 34 online, but had to send it back. It was heavy (just over 11 lbs), the truss rod was stuck (would not turn), and not sure how to say this… the swamp ash body had a bad tone.. like the wood was wet or something. Next time I’m getting one from a store so I can check it out first. Good review though 🤙
All I play is stingray! I do have a jazz n lakland I have a sterling 5 and 4 also and 6 stingray basses and they are the absolute best!! Definitely not one trick pony .. I love lobster, I’m the one who won his Emg sterling on the first bass giveaway , suck a great guy!!! Nothing beats a musicman!! Especially with them ceramic pickups, the neodymiums are amazing as well I got 3 of the all black specials lol, one ebony 5H and black on maple5H and a black on maple 5HH!! Now that bass has some amazing sounds to pull out !! Talking about a one trick pony lmao more bass tones from that bass than any I have ever played!!!
Thanks! I’ve found the newer SBMM basses seem to be made to higher quality standards. I think the preamps have been upgraded and consider them on par with G&L Tribute series.
The historical bit you did at the beginning was really informational, good video!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.

@@KPJohnson any fret buzz?
@@healer246 No. The fretwork was very good. No high frets and I was able to have the action pretty low without any buzz.

The Ray34 really is a pro quality bass.

They do seem to vary a bit. I would definitely recommend buying bass one in person.

Correction Lowend lobster said his first one weighed just over 9.8 lbs the second one weighed 11 lbs
34 I’m sure is for 34” full scale neck, vs short scale
@@phillipenriquez5318 3 band EQ 4 strings. The 2 band is the Ray24 and the 5 string the Ray35. There was no short scale when this bass first came out.
Nice video! Is there a big difference between a 10 year old Ray 34 and a more recent one?

@@KPJohnson thanks for answering, I can get a Silverburst.. But its a bit expensive. With 300 euro's added I can get a new Ray34.
Ray "34" might stand for the scale length too. However, I know they make a Ray 24 so that wouldn't make sense.
Also, the Ray35 is a 3 band 5 string.
Good video. American made stingrays cost too much. For $2,300 I can get a used Dingwall, a used Sterling and an amp.
More talking than playing....
Maybe I talk better than I play...
