- Violet vs purple? What is the difference?
Violet and purple are both colors on the color wheel, or are they? Is there a difference?
Violet is the light with wavelength from 380nm to 450nm whereas purple is a combination of Red and Blue. Purple has no wavelength which means it has no light. They look similar simply because our brains and eyes are incapable of perceiving the difference.

The reason why violet appears on the visible spectrum is because our s cones have a slight bump of sensitivity to long wavelengths as well. Thus we can see a tertiary colour beyond the final primary of the spectrum.

Yes but just because it's naturally - occurring like flowers can it not be that they are red and blue in tiny amounts and we see bluish-purple? Violet being a unique single wave frequency and not a blend 🤔 how can we know.. there must be a way

I just discovered this video today, and honestly, I felt like I was going crazy. I knew that purple and violet were separate colors, but when I looked for the color purple, it almost always is referring to violet. I’m not entirely sure if that’s the whole purpose of this video, but thank you nonetheless.

Ultramarine is a spectral color that is halfway between Blue and Violet, Purple is a combination of Red and Blue, or Red and Violet light, or Cyan/Blue and Magenta pigment. Magenta is exactly halfway between Blue and Red and is a combination of these colors in equal parts, with light that is. Magenta as a pigment is a primary color and impossible to reproduce, like Yellow and Cyan.

Looking at the views on your videos, it seems like people are getting here for color nerdy stuff and it's probably the reason why they don't subscribe that much. You might have guessed that already but they are potentially confused when they realise that's not the main topic of the channel! Well, a slightly broader topic would work too (physics on the rescue to explain misunderstood concepts, for example). Of course, I'm not encouraging you to do something you don't like but I really enjoyed this video and it seems like you did too so I would advise you to stick to a more consistent subject if you want to grow and get attention! You're style is great and the energy you put in your content definitely deserves more! So if you keep posting while acknowledging the "audience journey" on top of that, I'm sure you can get a higher subscription rate and faster growth. It's what I really wish you! I hope it helps! Violet can be portrayed with RGB; if we couldn’t portray it then we wouldn’t be able to see it, because our cones correspond to red, green and blue. We can see wavelengths slightly longer and slightly shorter than our cones actually correspond to. Like, the primary red is slightly more orangey then the red at the very start of the rainbow, the longest wavelengths we can perceive slightly activate our S cones, same with violet, it’s a tertiary colour, made with 2 parts blue and 1 part red. ‘Purple’ refers to dark magenta, not bluish-magenta.
True violet does not have red or blue. It’s it’s own color. However humans just see it as purple which is a mix of red and blue not to be confused with violet.
@@JR-ho5qm no that is not true, yes it is it’s ‘own colour’ since it has its own hue but it contains 2/3 blue, 1/3 red.
