Since your able to do the fabrication yourselves, you should do a swing gate at the top of those stairs (assuming you haven't already planned to). That way you don't have to worry about baby attempting the stairs on their own, and you can let the dogs out there without worrying about them going downstairs unless you want them to.

My wife and I have lived in a rural area for almost 40 years now. It's been a lot of work over the years and my wife has always been there and willing to help shovel gravel, dig water lines and LP lines, drag & burn brush, pour concrete, pack grease into wheel bearings by hand, set fence posts & stretch fences, hand me tools and anything else I've needed help with. A wife who's not only willing but wants to help with chores around the homestead makes the sometimes difficult life so much easier and as the saying goes, "Teamwork makes the dream work".

You guys are definitely next level project managers! I never cease to be amazed at your projects and how well they turn out. Riley, that welding and welding jig are genius. What a time saver that was, including the jig for the chop saw to cut the verticals so efficently. And Courtney, you drive that skid stear like you were born in it. I wish you would give me lessons on how to use one so easily. And I have to say thank you from Boone. Those pads on the staircase to protect his feet are greatly appreciated. And he knows they are there and to use them. That was so cool to watch. Thank you again for another great video and project completed. We never get tired of watching you guys.

My mom always said it's OK to talk to yourself... as long as you don't answer back. It's OK, Riley... I'm the same way. When working on stuff it's good to have your ears hear what your mind is thinking. Sometimes... listening to yourself helps you find flaws in your process.

There is a paint called POR 15 that is amazing stuff. It's made for metal and will never rust. The finish will fade eventually but will not rust. The color black will melt into the background and the railing view will be very transparent. You will not be a slave to yearly painting of that beautiful deck. As always, you guys rock. Good luck with the new baby, your in for a real treat and tremendous joy.

We are unconscious when we are asleep or fainted.
When we are unconscious, we have no thoughts, no emotions, and cannot see the world.
When we are conscious, we know everything. Consciousness is thoughts, emotions, and everything in the world.
      This consciousness is one.
Will consciousness be split in two? Consciousness is not divisible.
Do you feel two consciousnesses when talking to a friend? Consciousness is felt only as one.
Consciousness is one. I am Conscious and I am the World.
      Gospel of Thomas
"For many of the first will be last, and will become a single one."
Jesus said, "Two will recline on a couch; one will die, one will live."
"For this reason I say, if one is whole, one will be filled with light, but if one is divided, one will be filled with darkness."
Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup?
Don't you understand that the one who made the inside is also the one who made the outside?"
Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained.
Split a piece of wood; I am there.
Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."
A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me."
He said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?"
He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?"

I hadn't considered NOT tying the house side of the railings to the house... When Riley explained the anchor point on the vertical steel pole was more than ample, I got it. Any flex or movement by the deck won't pull or push against the siding and it's safe. I also echo some kind of spring-loaded gate that keeps the family members exactly where they are the safest. Perfect! You guys ROCK! Thanks for a great vid, Be well, be safe!

The railings are a great and overdue idea. I sympathize with your dog and the knee surgery, I had shoulder surgery on Thursday, and it is really starting to get to me. Though maybe it is the pain meds that are not helping! I tried to cut down today, but at least seeing you work so well as a team helps me to unwind and feel more comfortable and relaxed. I said it before, but it can be justified again, Courtney, your touch on the machines is second to none.

When you put the roof on the deck, I would recommend that it not be connected to the main roof. A grill fire would be catastrophic if it got into the rest of the structure. I've been on that call more than once. Also pick up a grill mat so you don't make a mess on your new deck. Happy grilling!

Impressive addition! I've not followed you from the start but have come on fairly recently so I may have missed your plans for future additions. I may have a bit of experience that can be of benefit. I bought a house a bit over 30 years ago from an older couple and got a great deal on the purchase for one reason. It was a tri-level house and they had reached an age where stairs were not their friend. Didn't matter to me and my wife because we were young and not concerned about it. At my present age of 78 I can tell you stairs are a real concern. Not only for pregnant mommies but for kids and elderly home owners. If you haven't already planned for it you might want to include a lift of some kind to your deck plan. Trust me if you stay there long enough you will benefit from having it.

I'm a general contractor and I've been to a lot of homes with BBQs on plastic decks and composite decks, the grease from cooking plays hell on the plastic decking and it almost ruins the composite decking. All I recommend is placing a mat down under the BBQ that extends away from it a few feet to collect any grease splatter. Your BBQ rolls so you wouldn't need to even keep it out there long term if you don't want to.

Due to weather in the tropics= LOTS of rain, we make those railings out of galvanized steel. It cuts maintenance almost to 100%. Mine are over 20 years old, no rust, just Rust-Oleum paint every 5 years. On the welds we use cold galvanizing spray and oil based paint. For those short ends you could add vertical pieces, the same width and bolt them to the floor. Not only add a little more strength but complete the finish.

That deck looks awesome! Once you get a roof on it it'll be double the living space when it rains and snows. Can't wait to see what your summer plans are. I'm waiting to win the lottery to put in an electric system like you guys have. 😂

Waiting for railing of the stairs and the tiny gate to prevent wild animals to enter to deck. Also please paint those steels, especially garage door. Black or grey would be perfect. You guys always making me enjoy your videos. Keep it up! Well done! 🤙👍

Awesome job. You two (three) are great! FYI: You need a handrail on the stairs per code, and it's a good idea.

Another really great video! Thanks! I strongly suggest that you drill weep holes on the underside of the rails. It's difficult to believe, but water will likely get into the rails. Come winter, it will freeze and bulge or even tear the steel in the rails. This happened to the first fence I built using square steel tubing. I don't have photos at hand, but I can get some if you need to see for yourself. For subsequent fences, I drilled 1/8" weep holes about every third spindle (ca. one foot or 30 cm on center). To make the job easier, center punch the upper rail. For the lower rail, I would consider using a C-clamp with a 'puck' that has a sharp point (e.g., cut a half inch 12 mm slice of your spindle material, drill a hole the same diameter as a piece of hard steel, about 3/16" / 4.8 mm, sharpen a point on the hard steel, tighten the C-clamp with the puck in place to create a dimple to start the drill). I like double ended, stubby drill bits sold by Malco as used by tin knockers (I did a tin knocker's apprenticeship during high school college, and grad school). A package of 12 is available from SupplyHouse com for $24.99. The lower rail will likely require a right angle drill or attachment. I hope this helps!

I was so glad to hear about Bailey, as there hasn't been a word about her convalescing since surgery. The white rails for her to step over are a great idea, as are mats/carpeting on the wall side of the steps for the paws' comfort. I am still waiting for you to get a cat :)
My expectations for the railing were already very high, based on everything else we have seen you do. To my eye, the distance between the spindles looked too wide, but I am sure you have it at regulation or narrower.
I can only guess that there will be a roof over the BBQ, and over a greater part of the deck's expanse. Keep at it.

My bare feet still quiver just looking at the stairs ... I also noticed the "pup pads" along the side of the steps! Fantastic! And yes, if I was there, I'd wear shoes outside every time too.
