For sure Sam but I've always been the tenacious one and love gear! So thou$and$ of dollar$ later, I had all the lights, modifiers and metering gear but realize most of the time it wasn't all that critical once you shot enough and could see the light and more importantly, shadows. For instance you didn't talk about the importance of metering modes which is HUGE (unless you have something like Setonic and do spot incident measurements which takes time fiddling). And on your video at 1:30, not having a flag or at least lens hood can definitely hurt video quality. But in time, hopefully we all learn the errors of our way.
At any rate, your story, acting, teaching, camera work, effects, etc were all great - kudos!!!
You deserve a million subs based on the amount of work you put into your videos alone... The education we get out of them is a plus.

Saved in my references list. Just learned this of "expose for what you can't control" in Brady Bassette video and now here, with all this production value. That thing with the bomb detonator cord as a time stamp for the tecnical part was wonderfull! Keep going!

I just shot my video and posted it Sunday where I had the light cranked way up. Last week, I was learning about IRE / 18% grey and V-Log limits for my pair of new S5 Mark II’s and V-Log-L limits on my GH5 Mark II
I have a concept for my next video, but one of my goals was to nail the exposure and get the exact shot I want (I realize my set needs to be further back so I need to rearrange the spot where I sit) and I need to really figure out what I’m doing with exposure so I’m not killing the scene with light but this video, I swear I wish I saw it when I was in research mode for the last one.
Either way, so thankful. Your channel has been something I’ve throughly enjoyed the last few months since discovering you. Cheers and thank you!

I have a grey card. Can I just stick with that instead of buying a color checker passport? If no, can you explain why? Seems like grey is the only color we are using on the colorchecker passport anyway?
Hey Jay. You can stick with that for setting exposure for sure 👌🏻 the other colours and shades are helpful for other things but for now the grey card is fine 🤩🎥

Honestly, this is the best video I have watched about exposing correctly (as a newb videographer). It also helps that you shoot with a Lumix as well (thanks to your videos and a handful of others, I opted to buy the GH6 as my first "real" camera recently), so it was nice to see how to set this up in the Lumix system. Fantastic video. Extremely clear, entertaining and succinct. It’s all too easy to get obsessed with preserving highlights and end up with muddy subjects in the grade from underexposure. Really good sense of arrangement of the edit and flow of the video. Bravo!

Great story telling, very creative one man show, so it seems, lots of work and doing youtube cliff hangers that just keep you watching but don't seem forced. You gonna go big, I told you so :D Anyway, I was watching Griselda and I found it very interesting how they left a lot of grain on the picture, at night specially, to give it more of an 80's, 90's vibe with tha nice pinch of orange/yellow.

Sounds good, and yes, while looking for good lighting tutorials I came across some of your videos and you explain it very well, I will definitely watch your videos and try to "learn" as much as I can. It's just difficult for someone who comes from music and now has to deal with Sony S-Log 3, but it shouldn't be that difficult since I only need ONE well-colored "LUT" for a UA-cam facecam setup. I got a Sony FX30 and countless Amaran lights, I thought,.. alright lets buy a decent camera, some lights, and I will get some Netflix style video quality, but no.. its much harder to achieve that real "Cinematic" looking Video than I thought it would be. And yea for sure, i slap that Bell 😂🕶👌@@SamHolland

I originally watched your Canon EOS R5 C Settings Video, it was a huge help, Since I've been at a loss how to manage the video output from the camera in final cut pro! this is the second video on video handling, I'm going to have to watch quite a few to get my head around it. All I wanted to say was the Video side of the R5 c is a monster, especially when you have never held a canon video camera! thanks in advance and for the help you have already been!

@@SamHolland Of course! I only start doing youtube videos and boy it takes a lot of effort. It's a full time job. Even simple videos require a lot of editing, lighting, sometimes a teleprompter. You literally made a full movie production! UA-cam suggested your video, surprisingly for them (they normally only suggest vidoes I already saw which is so annoying as I really want to discover new channels and new content).
I have now got the spydercheckyr 24 thingy that has one side the colour table and the other side the greys, I know how to use the colour chart with Resolve but had NO IDEA what to do with the greys :P so videos like yours are really helpful.
