    So the hilux goes into limp home mode 3 times and the Colorado gets 2 broken struts yet the Toyota wins? I mean i personally wouldn't own these overpriced models normal LTZ and SR5 are good enough for me but giving the win simply because of its badge and you'll upset all the fans boys is just piss poor journalism

      Overpriced?, most people like myself right these Utes off through their business, after purchasing my SR5 I received the gst back which was $5500, enough to pay my lease for 7-8 months off a 4 year lease, capped servicing, depreciation, low fuel cost and resale value turns the hilux into a pretty bloody cheap ute to buy

    Miss the old simple cars. Mechanical. ...not computers on wheels. You could fix your own car easily. And you were the sole driver, not a co-pilot like today. Wish I could travel back in time. And stay there.

      ok old man
      welcome to the 21st century

    • @bosse641
      @bosse641 6 років тому +7

      @Marko San ...so everything in the 21st century is better than what was before? Nothing in the past is better compared to what we have today? Is that the logic you operate by sonny? Isn't that very shallow-minded? Us old people have lived for some time on this earth, and seen a lot. Good and bad, and can compare. What does young people know? One thing I know, young people are ignorant, and arrogant. And that is a bad mix.

    • @bosse641
      @bosse641 6 років тому +1

      Clearly that was what was implied. Grow up children.

    • @LiverpoolfcEPL
      @LiverpoolfcEPL 6 років тому

      im trying to say the car maker is making a car for audience that isn't living in the past
      if you don't like it thats fine, thats your opinion. But i got my own opinion as well sorry if my OP offended you, my dads old so does my grandpa but i always respects their opinion.

    • @bosse641
      @bosse641 6 років тому +2

      @Marko San ...you didn't offend me. I just came at your statement from my point of view. I have lived in the days when cars were mechanical and you were the sole pilot. And I have compared it with today. And today is of no interest to me, not just when it comes to cars. That's all.
      That said. Your initial greeting in your first comment sure looks like someone out to offend.
      But as I see it, much of that comes down to immaturity.
      You enjoy the modern car as much as you will. I have no problem with that. Go for it. But I can not. It is totally uninteresting having seen a better time.

    So the rugged X has a part time 4 wheel drive system that will get you almost anywhere...if you're ok with it breaking down all the time. Bizarre...I think Aussie motoring journalists are scared to be honest about crap product in case the manufacturer s ban them from testing.
    Really the conclusion from this is the rugged X would break down and leave you to die in the.kiddle of no where. On the other hand the Colorado would would be fine other than two crappy canopy hinges and it drives better than the Toyota...but loses...let's hope the Toyota cheques cleared for those poor 'journalists'.

      Graham Bridge lol yes agreed, but don’t forget it sells in large numbers so that means it wins right ??? And we can’t bag a vehicle when it’s sales are #1 ? Even when on the day the Holden proved its reliability on test? Sale numbers don’t mean shit in the real world reliability and endurance in harsh conditions, sale numbers only go to prove that people get court on "here say" and sale pitches of manufacturers,along with "well very one is buying one so it must be Great ,right ! It pays to do your homework when buying a ute.

    • @grahambridge3437
      @grahambridge3437 6 років тому +1

      Dra Tempest kind of disappointing that these 2 utes are expensive and supposed to be performance off road vehicles yet come with exactly the same stock engines...aren't VW coming out with a 200 kw Amarok? I'm doubting that it would be more reliable but you'd be travelling a lot faster when it inevitably broke down.

    Maybe you should have taken the BT50 from Mazda along as a support vehicle , it’s all ready proven it’s reliability in the harsh and non forgiving Finke desert race with a podium finish and could have towed the Toyota and stopped along the way to pick up the pieces falling off the Holden . Just a thought! But great review on these vehicles.

    Looks like you had the Hilux trailing most of the time 3:50. All that dust could have triggered the check engine, not enough air coming through. Did you feel like it lost power with the check engine light on?

    Still had the same old polluting 4 cylinder turbo-diesels and obsolete rear drum brakes instead of a high-performance Hilux supercharged V6 & Colorado supercharged V8 and both needs rear disc brakes with ESC and AEB for braking safely off the road.

    If you think about it, sports cat is a pretty stupid name. What actual sports are there that involve cats, other than as a mascot? Dogs, sure, they are happy to get involved in racing, agility, hunting, sledding, even competition herding. Cats on the other hand tell you to get stuffed and still expect to be fed.

    ive owned a 2016 Hilux SR5 since new, its been a great rig in so many ways but i can tell you its very under powered. When will 4wd manufacturers get the fact that we want more grunt - its clearly not getting thru. I diesel tuned it and now its great - why cant toyota do that.......

    This whole segment has become WAY OVERPRICED. They're nothing more than overpriced work utes that shouldn't exceed $45K. As for the Toyota, it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be a DPF problem.

      Matt Ammon after doing 80000km in a ranger and SR5 I can tell you the hilux is way more reliable, my shit box wildtrak smoked 3 engines, turbo hose, transmission and heaps of other stupid shit, spent more time at ford getting fixed then making me money, never judge a book by its cover!

    Hi guys - thanks for a great, honest review and thank you for saying it the way it is...! You will find this is a very common problem with the Hilux and Toyota know all about it but cant/will not fix the issue. Look up issues with Toyota Hilux DPF and you find heaps of articles...! i am disappointed you didnt mention the huge and obvious power difference between the two; the hilux feels like a dog compared to the Colorado...? i know the Hilux has always been a good off-roader but with the DPF issue not sure how you gave it the win.....? long-time Toyota loyalty mentality perhaps?

    • @shawsie5780
      @shawsie5780 6 років тому +2

      John_I DPF problem is a super easy fix my friend, rip the DPF out completely and put a after market bypass kit in, my mates been a Toyota mechanic for 20yrs and his seen heaps of people do this, or the other option is the chip that disables the DPF completely

    • @KELVIN1107
      @KELVIN1107 6 років тому +1

      Yes, dpf is1 the issue, I'm also not sure should I get a 2.8 PRADO or get a old school pajero ( MY16 or older which hasn't got dpf) with less money instead

    • @twooccystraps6458
      @twooccystraps6458 6 років тому +1

      The issue in the latest Toyota is dirt bypassing the air filter, dirtying the maf sensor sending it into limp mode, that same dirt is destroying the engines as well, but Toyota wont fix it.

    Without even watching, I own a colorado and i'd still pick the rugged x,(If they fixxed the airfilter) It's got more offroad capability with proper options instead of just fucking facepaint like Holden has given the Colorado. Shame Holden, you really cocked the sportscat up. Even the name is horrendous.

You really needed to elaborate. The thing is for this price neither one of them should have had any issues but Lastly, how can a truck break down on more than one occasion in the same day and still win ? Complete rubbish

    Yep new model hilux is a pile of junk.
    Own a sr and nothing but an unreliable overpriced shit heap.
    Transmission not matched to gutless engine.
    Useless for towing.
    Heavy on fuel.
    4wd system and diff lock issues.
    Engine sensor failures.
    Engine warning lights on dash stay on for hundreds of kms.
    Rough with 17 inch rims.
    Dash rattles.
    Transmission clunks.
    When in heavy sand can’t activate L4.
    Rear brakes lock up when trying to reverse in sand with trailer on.
    If any one thinks this model is good you obviously never go off road.All these issues and my hilux has less than 20 000 kms on it.
    Just as well I kept my 100 series.
    Still have 1 good car.

      Thought my hilux was made in Thailand.Last week just had the 4wd actuater plastic box on rear of transfer case replaced.Its been grinding into low range and this is another fault with this model.Ive heard a few are getting stuck in low range.
      Yeh it is a 2.8 litre
      Canopy tray tool boxes and bit of gear on it for camping.
      Piss poor performance in hilly terrain and drinks fuel.
      Around 13/14 Lph.
      17/20 towing a boat.

    • @tacuazinful
      @tacuazinful 6 років тому

      @@toejoe5076 it is posible it is made in Thailand, that s why I asked, argentinian 2.8L tend to have the issues you mentioned, but If its Thai then I guess it has nothing to do with where it is fabricated, the hilux 3.0L from Thailand is proved to be the best so far

    • @toejoe5076
      @toejoe5076 6 років тому

      tacuazinful
      Just been out again after 4wd actuater been replaced and still can’t 4wd high range when I want at times.
      The engine is heavy on fuel highway cycle at 13/14 lph sitting on 98 km per hour.The engine cant handle any weight and the transmission ratios are too high.
      Got to travel in sports mode 5th cause it only engages 6th down hill then drops back to 5th on level ground.
      The cars a bit of a joke.Only thing it has going for it is Toyota will fix any failures I’ve had under warranty.
      Hope one day soon Toyota bring out the 79 Landcruiser with a auto box so I can get rid of this shit heap hilux.
