    This fish curry requires spices such as Byadgi chilies, small red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper seeds,ajwain seeds and fenugreek (methi) seeds to be roasted, before being ground into a fine masala or paste along with other ingredients such as grated coconut, onion and garlic.
    There is a ingredient which make this fish curry tangy and unique in taste is ‘Jaarige’ which is commonly called in tulu language (Garcinia Morella) . Jaargey is the dried exterior of a fruit which is locally avail in Udupi-Mangalore. It is soaked in water overnight or a minimum of 2 hours. The water turns a pale yellow and has a unique tangy flavor, a tad sour but mostly something that just excites your taste buds.
    Note:Jarige / Garcinia Morella can be substituted with Tamarind juice.
