Yes you can, very easily. It just takes a little propane to get up there because of the slower climb. I have images/video of a modification to this kiln with a brick flue in the back about 5' high. That creates a better draw for longer firings.
I‘m planning on building a kiln like this. What are your thoughts on refractory mortar or cement between the fire bricks? Wouldn’t the mortar / cement give a hold to the structure?
If you're not planning on breaking it down ever, the mortar would definitely be a good idea - The gaps between the bricks caused by the mortar might make the height of the kiln slightly taller which might make fitting the 24" fiber blanket interior a little more difficult. ~Robert
Hello, I have a pyro similar to yours and I wondered about the end in the kiln, I can't quite see, is it wrapped around a round prop/bung thing, or does it have a specific temp end. I love that you share with us, and I thank you. Regards, June
Hi June, I think you're asking about my thermocouple? It's a standard ceramic type 'K' couple that you purchase through your ceramics distributor (or eBay). The temperature end that comes with this digital pyrometer is nothing more than a little soldered wire that would never be able to handle the temp from a kiln. This must be replaced with the heavy-duty type k. www.ebay.com/itm/Type-K-Thermocouple-block-Ceramic-Kiln-Probe-Sensor-2372-F-11G-Cone-Temperature-/121085779704?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c31465ef8
You'd probably run through 1/4 of one of these tanks or a little less in 1 hour. I typically fire a load of Raku in 30mins and can get about 10-15 firings out of this manifold setup

Very nice...regular bricks looks like...Firber blanket inside on sides too, I guess. Where is the flue on your kiln? Thank you for video.
Where to you get you high temp wire for doing the top of your Raku kiln? Great looking kiln!
Thanks
Steve

@@corvusmoonpottery I can only find the trash can kiln build on this link. I'd like to build the brick type shown in this video if possible.
