Great little video fella
I very much appreciate your video! And that you were calm about the fact that you need to switch the lamps out. I'm a first time owner and have a tendency to panic, haha. I had to switch things up in my tank and I don't even know if I made anything better or worse. I won't know until my solarmeter arrives. 🥰
Thanks! Sounds like you care a lot and must have a very lucky reptile!
Very interesting, thanks for the info
Great video mate solormeters really do pay for them selves in the long run alos very interesting to actually see what levels you get in enclosures plus outside
I was quite surprised by how wrong my lamps were when I got my solarmeter. I had shade dwellers for my schrenckii and garters and their basking spots were getting a very low UVI (
I'm gonna have to come visit one of these days
Sorry this is my private collection but I'm sharing as much as I can on here and Instagram!
@@norwichreptileshed fairplay. Only mentioned it as i live local.
I’ve been looking into one of these, but how do I know if its measuring uvb, or uva?
Hi, so it only gives a reading in the presence of UVB so UVA won't affect the UV index reading.
@@norwichreptileshed Ah, interesting! I see where it says UVA on the screen though, what does that indicate?
Hi, so how I believe it works is, this unit (solarmeter 6.5R) measures UVB and UVA to give a UV index (UVI) which is then used in conjunction with the Ferguson zones which is how we determine if the output of lamp resembles the natural radiation we would expect the animal to have access to in the wild. Without the presence of UVB radiation the reading will be zero.
What’s the difference between this and the 6.2?
The 6.5 or 6.5R is designed for reptiles and reads out a UV value which we can use with a Ferguson zone to create a natural UV range and check the lamp health. The 6.2 is sold to just monitor the lamp health but the 6.5 (R) also does this.
