This is copied from somewhere else, but it explains the song better than I could have: This song has multiple meanings, but they tie together. One is a religion reference and the other is a nuclear war. The first verse describes the plight of humanity. I can be that we have fallen into sin, or that we are about to blow each other up. The second half refers to a fate that we cannot escape. The second verse can be either literally humanity burning for its sins (continuation of falling into sin lyrics on the first verse), or being annihilate by nuclear war. The "a thousand suns" reference can refer to a hindu holy text that was quoted by oppenheimer at the first nuclear bomb test (ties meanings together). It mentions the splendor of the god being greater than "the radiance of a thousand suns". This could mean humanity being punished by a religious figure for our sins, but since thermonuclear bombs basically work like suns, it could be us annihilating ourselves. Again, the sin lines tie in here because it would be our own fault we blew ourselves up. The chorus parts fit these as well. The "radiance of a thousand suns" religious reference or the literal blinding light of a nuke fit perfectly with the second line. Closing the eyes could be shielding your vision, or closing your eyes to think solemnly about the end of mankind, or even praying. The next part refers to humanity becoming only a memory in cold space, as all evidence of our existence decays away and echoes off into space. Far from the world of you and I could be everyone moving on to the afterlife or the memory of humanity fading into the distant reaches of space, as our last radio transmissions echo away (this is more literal tho). Oceans bleeding into the sky can be the seas literally evaporating at the end of the world, or a metaphor the end. Lift me up, let me go to me is a way of saying "save me." It could be a prayer (said when eyes are closed) to be saved and let into the afterlife, or a way to beg humanity to save itself and not blow everyone up. So yeah, pretty deep... :)
The upcoming album "One More Light" reminds me the "A Thousand Suns" era, the people dont like the change, but after years they would appreciate, like this album.
Except that A Thousand Suns is an experimental record with the lead single (This one) being alternative/electronic, while Heavy is a pure pop song sounding exactly like the chainsmokers and Mike Shinoda has said it is the sound the album. Do not compare an actual change with selling out to pop.
Reminds me how much I disliked this song and the album when they initially came out, I was ignorant, and disliked change. Five years later though, its almost like your brain rewires itself, and I honestly have so much respect for this band now as well as anything they throw out there, just because its different.
DropZone Happened the same to me.. but for me was 8 years, from Minutes to midnight... now I feel them as 8 wasted years just because I didn't give them a try :/ i feel kind of stupid ha ha
Rest in peace Chester. I really can't believe you're gone. You were incredible and you got me through some of my toughest times. I hope you can see from wherever you are that the whole world is mourning you. And I hope you aren't hurting anymore.
If you understand the message you know this album is amazing, ongoing war, people destroying the planet and all the sins people have committed and LP has shown this in amazing way,for me ATS a brilliant album.
This is the type of song that will just grow you on and grow on you. Wasn't a fan at first, but as the days, months went by, it is now one of my favorites!
Linkin Park definitely changed their style. Sure the fans can go and say they want their old stuff like one step closer, in the end, somewhere i belong, papercut, etc, the list goes on But they redefined themselves Respect for my favorite band, Linkin Park
I saw LP yesterday at Download, I stood through 10 hours of pouring down rain, cried with excitement for about the same amount of time, pushed through a crowd of 60,000 people to get the front, got beaten to shit whilst there. But it was worth every second just to hear them live, they truely are amazing.
Linkin Park has been my favorite band for a long time, and that hasn't changed. These guys are truly amazing, well done. Well done. This band is one word: AMAZING. They always have been. They still are. And they always will be.
It's "Un Chien Andalou" (An Andalusian Dog) by the great Luis Bunuel. His first film actually, that he made in 1929, based on a dream that he had. The girl who gets her eyed slashed is Simone Mareuil, a talented french actress who passed away in 1954 at 51 years old, sadly. If you haven't already, watch it :-D you don't see those kind of movies anymore
Love, love, love this alternate video. LP's official video is among the best I've ever seen and this one does justice to them and this beautiful, powerful song.
I love the new stuff! Call it going mainstream or whatever you want this is a great song and has a good meaning! Listen to the words and not the style people!
Either way Linkin Park is so talented that they make great music without trying or they are trying really hard because of their fans and not only, but I've seen them work and I can say that they try really hard for their fans. Love them.
I love ATS in so may ways. Specifically that each song reference each other in some way. Like how Jornada Del Muerto has the Japanese version of the bridge in this. Also the fact that musically, each song is continued from another one. i.e. Fallout/The Catalyst and Robot Boy/Jornada Del Muerto/Waiting For The End. Those three songs all carry each other's notes on and are also next to each other in the album. If you think about it, the album has a lot of continuity. Like how Fallout clearly consists of lyrics from Burning In The Skies and how The Catalyst includes the english version of Jornada Del Muerto. Even Iridescent/Fallout/The Catalyst have this same continuity.
I think this song is much more religiously conscious than people give it credit for. Sounds like he’s singing about the world falling into sin and how it will destroy the world. It’s biblical.
Seriously I was offended on behalf of the band that this was called the Official Lyric Video. But since it is posted on the official channel I'm not making too much of a fuss. But seriously, pretty amateur effects lol. LP is better than that
Woow, Linkin Park as best as they can, really unbelievable. They get me, they got us, this song got us ! I start hearing this in the back of 2011 when moh releases, it was like, a feeling of together or a feeling of some very special, and the most feelings you get in the past, and want to reactive them in the future, is doesn't works, i don't know why but this, it feels like 2011, it feels exactly the same. Maybe im crazy, but, this song is the best ever !
What you said that's true. Ppl might have lost the contest and in depression hit the unlike button. But the other 30 - 45% unlikers have their own SOLID argument, "This song isn't like what Linkin Park delivers to its fans. It wasn't composed to the level which Linkin Park has delivered yet. It has good wordings but hard-rock music is absent. Otherwise, in most of the songs, if hard-rock isn't available, Linkin Park adds some other effects to make the song sound AWESOME!"
***** i feel the same way, this song and this album are great(my opinion). Why all the hate for, i thought people were true fans but if u dont like the style if this song/album go and try to make out words while u listen to metalllll.
Some people don't like this song entirely for one reason. Because it doesn't sound like their old stuff. Come on people, open your mind. You'd be complaining if it sounded exactly like their old stuff. They've evolved. And so sholuld you. Personally this blows me away. Just open your mind to this new sound.
I stare aimlessly at the air then i hear this song on my ipod and showed me the value of life and how limited it is and i decide to give life EVERYTHING i have before God abandons hope on us and presumably end the world
Moral of the story is that "haters are gonna hate" in anything. Can't have everyone have the same perspective as you, not one person can say what something is or can't be (making an opinion into fact = fallacy), and that's reality & how life works. Everything can't go LP's way (even though they are successful) or anyone's way 100% of the time. Almost everything is opinions on youtube from dislikes/ likes to the comments we type. And even how we humans think, try to separate fact from opinions
Lift me up
Let me go
RIP Chester. You'll never be forgotten
It cant be outmatched,
It cant be outrun
I love how LP has the ability to make more than just one style of music, most bands can't do that.
They are the most versatile band i think
I fully agree
When you know what the lyrics are about... it just shakes you inside out...

You don't know what selling out means. Look up words next time.
You're right.
Ouch, this aged well in the worst way possible
Very much a sour aging.

This is the type of song that will just grow you on and grow on you. Wasn't a fan at first, but as the days, months went by, it is now one of my favorites!
I really like how Linkin Park is mixing it up and trying new things. They do great in whatever they do.
This song ages like wine, it gets better and better, one of my favorites from the LP....

I´ve always loved this song, but I didn't know there was a lyrics video. I love it more than ever. Happy 10 years anniversary.
I love all their music. So full of emotion and truth
IMHO Linkin Park is far better like this. I am listening to them from the start and I was amazed by the positive change in their style.
This song should win the grammys

The world ends and this is the only video that remains. Damn. Describes what happened to Earth if someone discovers.
Well actually this video suits the atmosphere. Looks like this was made during a nuclear war apocalypse.
I think they had really much fun making this video... especially at 1:24
It's like a parody of typical lyric videos from 2010
Love, love, love this alternate video. LP's official video is among the best I've ever seen and this one does justice to them and this beautiful, powerful song.
i love this Song so much! :)
RIP to this legend, man. This song is what actually introduced me to this band. So sad to see him go, especially in the manner he did.

this song is super awesome it can't be matched to other songs
This applies to all of us. We all need God. But for us to go to God we need Jesus.

Happy 10 years
Gundam Extreme Vs all the way to this song!
Yup same here
With knowing what the lyrics are about and seeing what is happening now with Russian invading the Ukraine. This song gives me chills of fear.
The editing is so 2010, i love it🖤
I used to own a Justin Bieber CD + Biography thing. Well I'm glad God Chester saved me from this shitty life.
saddest day... rip chester
Rip Chester ! #Brasil
What is great about Linkin Park is that they have their own channel on YT and no Vevo channel.

fnrj997 Was that sarcasm?
This is straight up highschool project quality lmao still a good song though
I think it's done purposely.
@@InFlameswetrust12 well that's an insult. LP has so much illustrative talent. Surely they deserve better

Good but a tad repetitive
But still good
Ok idk who made this but this is really cheap
