Man, I grew up on this keyboard. Learned almost every musical skill and concept I know today because my mother had this in the house. Excellent piece of work, much easier to use than it looks (despite all the buttons), and EXTREMELY customizable. I loved being able to re-write the auto-accompaniment tracks and pre-load so many settings into memory.
My sentiments exactly! This keyboard transformed my world. The drum samples were incredible for a consumer model, and I rarely find a general MIDI 89 Fantasia sample that competes with this one. This video is making me tear up, hearing all of the factory presets again. I'm glad someone else understands. : )
Same here. I think this keyboard alone is the reason I ended up actually studying pianos/keyboards on an academic level. Now 20 years later, I'm trying to use the knowledge pull even more out of that "toy".
Just last week I was walking home from the store and saw this keyboard sitting next to the garbage. It was raining and when I picked it up water poured out. I gave it a day to dry, found a plug and it started right up! Looking forward to learning piano on it.
It's disgusting the way some people treat musical instruments, just because a keyboard is old doesn't mean it's bad. I hope your still enjoying your Yamaha PSR-510.
Oh! I can't believe they just threw it away like that! And that's how you know tech was built right--when even rain can't slow it down :) I love hearing stories of instruments being rescued like this, and I sincerely hope you're still enjoying it.
just found this in my mums loft my gran gave it to me when i was 10 and wasnt interested because i played guitar had no idea how good it was. 20 years later and it still works fine cant wait to get the teeth into it. just started a sound production course cant believe my luck
Of course, you have the five track standalone recording ability. However, as you may know, you can also customise the accompaniment section, giving you even more tracks then you can play the other five over them to give you a lot more tracks. That is a very good vintage keyboard and I proudly owned the big brother, the PSR 2700 which I liked very much and it had on board a fantastic sampler.
When I got mine in the late '90s, I was told it was worth $800. I got mine used for $300 or so, and I felt it was truly a bargain. No idea what it would sell for now. I'm not selling though. I love this keyboard, and as a blind person, I find its layout and lack of menus for most functions a God-send. The problem with keyboards (maybe just since this one?) is that their screens became huge, and everything is in menus. Not blind-friendly.
This was my FIRST keyboard, and I paid about $500 for that sucker! It got me through for about 10-12 years. I was waiting for the wedding+"are you sure?" sound!
I have this keyboard since 1994. Still discovering all the possibilities. I especially like the two buttons, for "Intro" and "Ending". On many keyboards is just one for both functions. You can also start with the ending and than play on. Or you can repeat "Intro" for let's say three times - I often use that - without it stoppin the playing. And last but not least: the revoice possibilities!
I have my psr-510 and I love it, great keryboard, the instruments sound very well, I have proved other yamaha keyboards but anyone sound like my old 510
I had this keyboard long back....I loved the 100+'s LED's look...its styles were really great....I bought a psr630 after that but the psr510 still beats it in styles by a big margin
Hi I just got a PSR-510 recently and I've been trying to figure out how to use the 5 track sequencer. its hard to tell what buttons you pressed, if you could tell me what buttons you pressed i'd really appreciate it c:
It's crazy how much different the psr500 timing ( absolutely loose as anything ) and the 510 (really stable timing) differ. They must have been very close in time, must've put a much better cpu in the 510 it seems. EDIT oh excellent they put the sequencer where you could see the measures - like the pss 790 - which probably means you can drop in. Love that on the 790 and it seemed crazy that the 500 sequencer couldn't do that.
Very nice review! much better than the walls of text you find in most websites. I have a question. What length of performance can you record with that 5 track sequencer? How long can your recordings be?
Not sure if my record works or not, could you do a video how the recording works? Ps I just got one today from someone on Craigslist. Thanks in advance!
Michael, I appreciate your demo very much. I'm still not clear on how to play a drum kit pattern without music and would like to record it, with stops and turnarounds to access easily. Could you show me? Slowly and close-up please?
Unfortunately I wasn't able to show that demo as at the time my videos could only be 15 mins long, now I can do uploads longer than 15 mins so sorry I wasn't able to do that demo as that was a long demo and showing all of them would exceed more than 15 mins. Thanks for your comments on this keyboard this is quite a good piece of kit and thanks for watching my videos! :)
Como disminuyo los sonidos de acompañamiento en PSR-510 YAMAHA, como graduo de mayor a menor los sonidos, que los sonidos se aprecien mas lentos, Maracaibo, Venezuela
All I can think off is that its such an old keyboard, it may need to be connected to an older computer, I dont really use MIDI that much to connect it to a computer, I do very rarely though, So I'm guessing it might need to be connected to an older computer as its an old keyboard. Hope this helps :)

Could you make a video with the style of tango this keyboard?
Man, I just got one of these and it came without the manual... I hadn't realised it could do so much stuff!! How do I get to that cool song at around 08:24?
alexander jones hello, yes this keyboard is touch sensitive, the harder you press the keys, the louder it is, the softer you play the keys, the more quieter it is
alexander jones I bought this keyboard for £50 on eBay, as it was a collection only from far away, I emailed the seller about posting the item and he said that for an extra £20 he would be prepared to come to me to deliver my keyboard so it was altogether £70 I paid for it which is more than $80 in your countries currency so to me that's quite good for $80, hope this helps
@iamillful I dont know how much exactly they go for, it all varies on what the sellers want for it, I saw one go for £20 once, and another one went for just over £100 and the one I got I bought for £50
@JEULOMADRIAGA Some of the sounds and styles are the same as the PSR-520, but some are different, and also you dont get the music cartridge feature on this keyboard too, but I like it for what it is :) Thanks for watching!
hey dude! i also have a PSR-510 but it wont work on my win 7 pc.. midi in & out are connected to my game port. do you know if i need to pull any special tricks to make a connection with a pc? thanks!
Is the style at 7:32 "Detroit Pop"? It's the same as on the PSR-7000. Another question: Why didn't you show the PSR-510 in your entry level midrange keyboards collection?
For all my love of the 510, I find the instruments aren't as accurate as in the 520, 530, 540, for example, probably to do with when they were first made. I'm not sure of the exact years, just that by 1997 the 510 was discontinued in the US, and when I got my 540 in 2004 it had been discontinued since about 2001. I prefer the 540 for accurate instrumentation, but I find I can't use it as easily. Menus again.
Hey man. I've been trying to figure this out for years. Didn't they make a par 510 with a floppy drive? If you know could you please give me the model number
Hello, this keyboard doesn't have a floppy disk drive, a keyboard in this kind of range but I believe is an older model is the psr-600 which had a floppy disk drive, hope this helps
@AzimuthProductions1 Yes the style is called "Detroit Pop" and I didn't show the PSR-510 in my entry level and mid range keyboards collection video because I didn't have the PSR-510 keyboard at the time. If you see my PSS-390 Part 2 video, I did an update to my keyboards collection showing the recently bought PSR-510 at the time. Thanks for watching!

Damn. Thats a blessing. Im using mine right now.
The people who threw it away did not know what they had. These keyboards are beginning to be sought after
It's disgusting the way some people treat musical instruments, just because a keyboard is old
doesn't mean it's bad. I hope your still enjoying your Yamaha PSR-510.
Good find. I paid $350 or so new for one when Best store was still around.. mid 90s
Oh! I can't believe they just threw it away like that! And that's how you know tech was built right--when even rain can't slow it down :)
I love hearing stories of instruments being rescued like this, and I sincerely hope you're still enjoying it.

I paid about the same, my second, after a brief time with a DX100. Yes, I remember that !!
I re bought it for under $200 about 6 years ago
Just spent 10 minutes searching for this video to find that sound!
I have this keyboard since 1994. Still discovering all the possibilities. I especially like the two buttons, for "Intro" and "Ending". On many keyboards is just one for both functions. René Bil I like the sequencer.
a little suggestion can be very inspiring. Thanks
Thank you so much for posting this! Hearing all of the original factory settings is blowing my mind right now.
I like the old retro sound. Pretty decent keyboard for what it is.
12:20 everyone loves Jean Michel Jarre
powerfull keyboard! a Classic
had this thing forever and loved it, it finally took a korg trinity to get me to upgrade.
I'm had this keyboard once before too. I'm looking to buy another if your trying to sell it.
Oh my god the 'Ride on time' style! Fabulous, I want this keyboard.
I have my psr-510 and I love it, great keryboard, the instruments sound very well, I have proved other yamaha keyboards but anyone sound like my old 510
Whoa, this is quite a leap over the PSR-210, definitely
Yamaha = A+ Keyboard !!
PSR-510 was very famoust from 1995 to 1999 in Tajikistan where i was born...
this keyboard is a piece of art...
0:56 "Are you sure?" "No I'm not sure, but there you are."

Very helpful thank you...i was given one of those from a friend and had no instructions for it.
Oh the Memories! I had one of these when I was little :) m first Yamaha keyboard. :)
Michael, I look you from 2010. When you made a channel. PSR-510 great keyboard, but style not saving in floppy - it's bad! Rest as always good. :)
there was another keyboard, the yamaha psr 1700 which had some of these styles. orrigenally I was ment to get a yamaha psr 510 for christmas last year
Jordan Livesey there is also a PSR-2700 which has sampling features on it, and a bigger screen too
@@KeyboardKrazy49 I've herd the sampling demos on that keyboard, pretty amazing especially combined with the sound chip at the time
So 80's !!! Love ! Il want this Keyboard!
It's from 1993 :D
Fantastic! Had one of these! Great channel. Love what you do! Thanks.

the PSR-S775 has some of the 1990's Yamaha drum samples mixed in with the Arabix & Turkish Mix kits
PSR 510 is excellent board in Yamaha corporation......
All its features are genuine just like Yamaha Genus......
Not sure if my record works or not, could you do a video how the recording works? Ps I just got one today from someone on Craigslist. Thanks in advance!
Usefull and informative video, thanks for taking the time of making it
just bought one!!! have a psr 730 both great!

For anyone inquiring about the classical piano piece (demo #3), it is Piano Concerto in A minor by Edvard Grieg.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to show that demo as at the time my videos could only be 15 mins long, now I can do uploads longer than 15 mins so sorry I wasn't able to do that demo as that was a long demo and showing all of them would exceed more than 15 mins. Hey I have been having a hard time hooking up my electro harmonic vocoder V256 could you help?
could you show us how to connect this keyboard to the computer? :(

alexander jones hello, yes this keyboard is touch sensitive, the harder you press the keys, the louder it is, the softer you play the keys, the more quieter it is
I'm trying to buy one right now does $80 sound ok? no stand, just the keyboard and power.

Plz.. what is the name of a classic song pre recorded in the PSR 510?
Hi Michael I've sent you a fb message about this keyboard!
KeyboardKrazy49 I record my tracks in the accompaniment. You just have to erase them first.
KeyboardKrazy49 thanks
PSR-540 has floppy drive too
the psr-2700 is similar in looks but upgraded with sampling capabilities and floppy drive.
hey man does psr 510 have a sustain pedal accompanied with it?
Nhat An Ngo yes
@AzimuthProductions1 Yes the style is called "Detroit Pop" and I didn't show the PSR-510 in my entry level and mid range keyboards collection video because I didn't have the PSR-510 keyboard at the time.
If you see my PSS-390 Part 2 video, I did an update to my keyboards collection showing the recently bought PSR-510 at the time.

I also hear that the synth boogie from the PSR-7000 is on this keyboard.
the same style is also on the psr 8000

@ThePolgalka The Rhythm Style number 01 is called "16Beat Pop".

@iamillful I got mine with a carry case and stand for just £50
My aunt has a keyboard just like this
that thing has synth boogie at least thats what it is on the psr-270
