The way Costa Ronin plays his role in this very delicate balance between deception and devotion was brilliant. The more I look at his facial expressions, the more I can see all the cues were there, had I chosen to see them, like Carrie would have, had she not been doubting him since the first minute of this season. The surprise in his eyes looking at Carries reaction to their first exchange in the bar, the hurt when he realized she didn’t remember their weeks together, the longing in his eyes, the admiration. Everything was pointing towards a man in love, waiting for Carrie to come back to him, if it was meant to be. Of course he is not ingenious. He knows it might never happen, but he chooses to be there for her, as penance and true respect, and of course deep down, because he is falling in love with this amazing woman. But he is still a spy and does what needs to be done, trying to harm her as little as possible in the process. I love the fan fiction chapters, giving us the part we never got to see in the show. It could have very well gone down like this. Slowly but surely falling for each other. That doesn’t mean the duplicity doesn’t make sense in a love so intense. I think she finds a kindred spirit in Yevgeny, but she is who she is and no love will ever change that. I don’t think it will be a big surprise to him if he ever discovers what she is doing for her country. It seems like they know exactly how complicated this love is, and what the other is. None of them expect the other to change or be something they are not, and for me that is the beauty of it. It’s the only kind of love that will work for her. She has never had the perfect fairytale love and it doesn’t suit her. I find this type of relationship more realist for her then any other we have seen during these 8 seasons. She has a companion and plays on both sides of the chess board, and that probably keeps her alive and sane. She would very probably die of boredom in a very normal stable loving relationship. So this is her best shot at a certain happiness, while being true to her essence. Love it. He might have to kill her in the end, who knows.

I could see it. He planned to run into her the first time because he hadn't seen her since she got home, and he missed her. At the bar, he was happy to see her, but got upset because he had no idea she had gaps in her memory. I don't think he planned to steal the flight recorder from her until their make-out session. He knew that if he let her go, he'd never see her again, never touch her or kiss her again. I view their future differently because they are kindred spirits, and because Franny is written opposite Issa. I think he very well knows she's sending intel to Saul, and believe he's actually allowing it. Knowing what she sends and when she sends it better allows him to protect his own people. He's angry because Anna's mission cost the lives of two of his men. Two of his men out of the number of times she sent intel to Saul. I think Anna was striking at the men actually responsible for the death of her students, and Yevgeny's men got hit in the crossfire.

Why does Carrie love Brody - the only person she really loved in her life?
Because a part of her feels bad about the pain and torture he was subjected to. She acknowledges the fact that he served his country obediently until his capture, and that he was actually subjected to inhuman treatment. He was subjected to this for years on end. This will certainly leave even the strongest of men psychologically scarred for life. In Brody's case, he was broken and Abu Nazir took advantage of his psychological state and turned him into a brainwashed traitor. Fortunately, Brody did not blow up his suicide vest, and listened to his daughter, which highlights the fact that there is still humanity in it. This shows the audience that he is not a cold-blooded terrorist, but a misguided and emotionally damaged man who just needs to be brought back on track. Carrie sees this and, as a result, feels sympathy for him.
Carrie had other involvement yes, it turns out that none managed to awaken the true love she felt for Brody and vice versa.
The character loves her daughter Franny even though in a crooked way ...

And then end with Carrie in a long-term relationship with the guy who went rogue and killed many many people the previous season, took her off her meds, held her captive, got her to talk. They fall in-love?
When she’s not being interrogated, she sleeps all day, her body somehow knowing it finally has permission to rest. The combination of deep sleep and mostly empty days allow new memories from the asylum to resurface. Like her brain decided to regain lost territory. Most of them center around the brutal interrogations she endured when she was still half-way lucid, before she lost touch with reality entirely. They-at Yevgeny’s behest-did unspeakable things to her: starvation, sensory deprivation, filling her cell with photos of Franny, shackling her to a chair for weeks, among other things. Everything they could possibly do to accelerate her descent into madness.
Face to face with the man who gave her hell.
Hell yeaaaah, Carrie and Saul💙 I love what they did with the ending! Unexpected but fitting for her character, sort of a happy end but also a beginning of something new, ambiguous and a little open for imagination and not enough to leave the audience angry ... and the title Carrie Mathison: Why I Had To Betray My Country , that's just brilliant, considering how many times she betrayed her country and everyone she loved without a blink of an eye, and she actually ALWAYS did it FOR HER COUNTRY 😄 👌

@@alphaedits88 Let's think carefully: Carrie always admitted she really loved Brody ... the only guy who made her want to give up on the Company to be happy beside him.
As for Gromov. Yes, she wants to use this Russian to access Putin's Russian military information.
Furthermore, she knows that Yevgeny was ready to murder Simone, the girlfriend he said he loved, in season 7.

I think Carrie and Yevgeny really did love each other? And they had great chemistry?
Homeland will be greatly missed. As for the closing scene, there are so many thoughts and questions.... Is she really so hooked on this lifestyle and spying that she would give up everything else? Her daughter? her sister? And love from Saul? There I look at the big picture! Back to season 7, Carrie is broke, has debts, and very complicated relationship with her family. She has no friends left... she was barely talking to Saul anymore the past years and now with Max dead...
she was left alone in a world she doesn’t know or doesn’t fit her. She tried to have a normal life (Berlin, New York) but couldn’t. In my opinion, despite the sacrifices, it’s where she’s best. Serving her country, and not in the most common sense as serving during war for example as she’s exposing the US from Moscow, but for the good of the planet apparently. I don’t know about you, but for public the chemistry is just not there 100% with Yevgeny as it was with Brody and Quinn. They tried to force the chemistry and even though Yevgeny is a good actor, he was miscast as Carrie’s love interest IMHO.
She had so much more chemistry with Brody a few seasons prior ( apart from Quinn). Interesting things to think about. I think she found some measure of contentment and safety with Yevgney - NOT love real. Yet she still lives on the edge by spying while in Russia. I think Carrie realizes she isn’t good for Frannie and that her daughter, who she loves, is better off with her sister. I’d love to see what her future looks like, even what ends up happening with her daughter. The series left in such an interesting place. I’ve never seen another show that wrapped things up and yet opened the door to so many more possibilities. It was a wonderful close to the cycle of this series. congratulations to everyone involved.
On season seven, it might have been something of an unconscious self-fulfilling prophecy. Carrie never wanted to live a normal life so she sabotaged that normal life in spectacular Carrie Mathison fashion, which we saw play out in seasons five and six. That doesn’t make her separation from Franny any less painful, though. So if you look at the finale and think, well, this is better for her than what we saw in the prior two seasons when she was back in the US, I think that’s the point.
In other words: Carrie never wanted a normal life, so she didn’t practice or ultimately care about being good at it. When she had the chance to live a normal life, she was, as expected, bad at it. And so she made choices that made it literally impossible to ever have that again.
That said, I do love the irony of Carrie and Yevgeny going on this date night together, which is absurdly normal, but it’s couched in her play and slow hand out back to Saul, which is decidedly not.
PS: In S4, Carrie/Khan will be lulzy!
