    I'm not sure of you are aware of this, but you are supposed to peel out the transparent plastic covering the thermal pad on both sides so the thermal pad will stick and provide better heat transfer.

    One thing I have found is the internal black heat sink, must clip around the SSD board, other wise the heat sink does not squeeze the heat tape between the heat sink and the SSD chip set. the result will be the heat will exceed the built in safety switch which shuts down the SSD. and you have a disconnect notification. I ended up having to spread the heat sink side wall ever so slightly so that the heat sing would slide over the SSD board and click into place. works fine ever since.

    shouldn't ssd with board be turned opposite the bottom as you will more likely have case placed at the bottom so heat dissipation will not be so effective?

    Great review will pick one of these up, having the small size and speed of a 2TB NVMe drive will be perfect for traveling. Do you know if this uses a Asmedia or Jmicron chipset?

    I have gotten a 2020 orico thunderbolt enclosure and I reach 2700mbps transfers. That's good speed, however I find the advertising for these enclosures (any brand) very misleading.

    Orico makes good things, only problem is the damn cables because some of them are garbage and make the enclosure behave odd.

    I am very angry at orico. Two of their enclosures died in like 2 hours of me using them with non stop random disconnects etc till completely dying with symptoms like not recognizing any ssds at all (first enclosure) and recognizing SSD'S but showing them as unitialised and as 0bytes in size. (2nd drive).
    Altough I was using the not recommended 970 evo plus (two of them).
    Also i had the same PCB as in this one and the Realtek R9 something controller. I am now looking for an enclosure with the JMicron controller as I have 0 faith left in the Realtek one. It was horrible. Disconnects, errors, until just the enclosure dies completely.

  • @chungisyoung4good

    How can you say it has good heat dissipation? The thermal pad is applied on the bottom, where there are no fins. The thermal pad is also not directly contacting the enclosure due to the metal plate, which is also not properly contacting the enclosure.

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  Рік тому

      Well, the exterior feels very hot. If there's no heat transfer, the exterior won't be that hot.

    • @chungisyoung4good
      @chungisyoung4good Рік тому

      @@teohontech7141 You should double check with the m.2 onboard sensor. Eventually the heat will spread to the entire enclosure since its not insulated. Saying 'it feels hot' is a relative statement. 40c can feel hot to us but its really cool for chip operations.
      Regardless of that, there is no denying its a terrible design. Having no proper contact to the outside, cooler ambient air. The only saving grace its capped at 10 Gbps.

    the heatsink plate channel gap is too narrow to fit over the edges of the SSD, which results in the alum not fully in contact with the thermal pads. is yours able to sit well?

    Hi. Is it true that we don't need such high end nvme for a 10Gbps enclosure? because the nvme you recommended are a bit pricy and is there other budget options to match 10Gbps speed?

      I was only able to get 1000MB/s with Windows file transfer. You don't have to buy the best NVMe, just get the ones that are cheaper and have more than 1000MB/s. Most of gen 3 NVMe SSDs are more than fast enough,

    • @ZhuJo99
      @ZhuJo99 Рік тому

      no, definitely not, but for thunderbolt you might. But even than, 6000 MB/s SSDs are excessive for this. Problem is, you can hardly find any lower end ones for lower price. Try ADATA/XPG S11 Pro, I have it and it's great, now it's about 70 euros for 1 TB version

  • @themediaman100

    From what I can see is that it is not made correctly. The top case with all the cooling fins is not in contact with the NVME heat sink. The heat is conducted to the bottom cover. The heat sink design might look good but is in fact doing nothing towards cooling the ssd. The enclosure should have a removable top instead. That way the heat dissipation pad would be in contact with the cooling fins on the lid.

    What?? How is the heat supposed to be transferred to the enclosure?? This makes absolutely no sense. What connects the extra tiny cold plate to the rest of the heat sink? And most contact is with the tiny separate door. This is such a horrible design and product. Just for show no substance

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  2 роки тому +1

      Heat is transferred from thermal pad to the black metal to the case. Heat dissipation is good.

    • @Caius1930
      @Caius1930 2 роки тому +3

      @@teohontech7141 brother. The only thing the thermal pad connects is the small cold plate you put on top of it. That plate doesn't connect to the rest of the casing which is supposed to be what actually cools the ssd. Does that make sense?

    • @Caius1930
      @Caius1930 2 роки тому +1

      By that I mean there is absolutely no thermal interface material between the tiny cold plate u placed, and the rest of the case. Maybe more contact with the tiny door, but that door can't transfer much heat to the rest of the casing that actually has the cooling fins. And the door itself, as you mentioned, has no fins

    • @Caius1930
      @Caius1930 Рік тому +1

      @Dawid Tech yeah but with an extra thermal pad it still would not help. The pad only connects the ssd with the small door. Not with the entire heatsink of the enclosure. It's an incredible dumb design
