Oh Rod that is so pretty. So many would have turned it completely round. Isn't it wonderful how the Lord created such beautiful things for us to enjoy if we just take the time to look. God bless you and your family.
Good morning, my friend. "I have a plan." Back in the day there was a TV show called, The 'A' Team. At the end of the show, the leader of the 'Team' would say, "I love it when a plan comes together." Well, your plan came together. Leaving the special features and making a bowl from the rest of the piece, priceless. You did spend a lot of time looking at the piece with sand paper in your hands but oh how beautiful when finished. Excellent. Be kind and compassionate to one another. That's a good plan too. Perfect verse. Semper Fidelis Peace to you.
God designed all that beauty in so many pieces of wood. Some of it gets chopped down, some becomes fire wood but every once in awhile a turner like you releases that beauty. Thanks for that Rod. Loved the verse.
That is an amazing break from the norm. You really captured the essence and grace of the burl without destroying the peaks. This is one of my favorites of yours. Great vision, great work 👍
It is a sharp looking piece! It was interesting that you didn’t turn the outside. I love the grain, but I like that you just sanded the outside and left the true look of the wood. It is always a joy to watch
Do you think you could look into turn a coffee mug with a thermos inset. I know you are into unique woods, so that was why I was asking. It think it would make great Christmas gifts!
Rod, I’m totally in love with that bowl!! What a gifted visionary you are. Those verses are for us all to take to heart. We are all in this together. Big hugs to Sue! Be blessed and, a blessing. ❤️
I love the bowl! It’s interesting that you didn’t turn the outside. Sanding and leaving it natural, gives it a very unique look. As alway, beautiful work! ❤
That's a gorgeous piece of wood. I've always seen turners cover the spikey bit with resin, so this is a different take on it. I like it! The sanding is definitely boring, but for those of us who will be setting up and getting to work soon, it's a brief glimpse into what we should expect when we turn something. Great video and great project as usual!
Groot! Hope I am not the only one that saw Groot in the shape of the turning. I often leave a burl edge on my bowls. Sometimes I just offset the center point so the natural area sets back in from the turning circle. Very nice results, and pleasantly different.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your ability to see the inner marvel in a piece of wood is as amazing as your ability to bring it out as a piece of art. And I did catch your Mad Scientist level of pumpkin carving! Wonderful on both! Didn't know the Marines taught those skills!
One of the most fascinating and beautiful bowls I've watched you make. Wonderfully organic. Upside down, it could be a piece of barnacle-encrusted marble rescued from the sea. Whichever way you look at it, it's a winner.
That's a very nice bowl. At first I couldn't picture what you were going to do when you started cutting it on the bandsaw, but when I saw how you left it when you started turning. It, it came together. Now I hope you kept the cutoffs to make something else like a Christmas ornament. Great video.
Very cool piece; the ‘imperfections’ add a special touch. The grain, with it’s colors, and the glossy sheen, makes me think of how butter looks when you’re boiling it for toffee. Nice work.
A very stunning work of art sir. You can't go wrong with maple burl. Thanks for all the hard work in this post, on both sides of the camera. Stay safe and keep on making sawdust. Outstanding piece of art work indeed.🌿 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What I think really isn't that important. I do think it's a great ! and it is some beautiful wood. I'm almost thinking you been watching Phil over at Shady Acres. Great job! Like I told Phil. You him and a few others videos really helped me get through that 3 months I was in the hospital. God bless & happy turning!
The bowl is beautiful and unique. It is always fun to see what results from your creative eye. The boldness of your witness makes watching your videos even more enjoyable. Thanks for being salt and light. Gal 2:20
The phrase has been so over-used as to be hackneyed, but, that is "out of the box" (even "out of the bowl") and is such an elegant solution for using the unique forms burl takes on. It would be an excellent companion to some art glass I have. Which may send me into the wood scrap pile.
Good piece. I started to blow the dust off while you were drilling for the badge you put in. Then stopped cause I realized I was watching a video. Nice work as always.
I really like this one, although I love all your projects, but this one in particular, it can be used as a bowl for bibs and bobs, I can see it in the hallway on a console or something, displayed perfectly 😁 Great job once again!
@@RHumphrey ...and then there's the way it dips down like dropping down from a cliff. I pulled up pics of the Canyon and realized why it struck me that way. I tried to copy/paste one on here to show you, but no joy.

Thanks I'll keep a lookout 👀 🙂
I reported one. They have infested UA-cam lately!

Thanks so much, Jane! Well said, and the same to you and yours.

Loved that show! Thank you, brother!
I love that you kept the "live" side, it's not just a "bowl", it's "functional art"
Thanks very much! 😊

That's exactly how I look at my turnings. God creates the beautiful wood and I just try to Expose and highlight it.
I'm sure Rod would agree.
Thanks so much, GG, well said!
Can we all give a big hand to nature for making something so beautiful, and for Mr. Humphrey for making it even more so.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Beautiful piece of wood Rod and you brought out the best in it.
Thank you, my friend!

Thank you very much!
Beautiful!!! First bowl I've ever seen that looks just as good upside down. Thanks so much for sharing
haha! Thanks very much!

I really like that you retained the natural end with the character. Outstanding job Marine! Semper Fi Brother!
Lovely work sir, sometimes simple is best. I do love burls, so thank you for keeping it on this piece 🙏💓

Thank you, and you as well!
That is one fantastic bowl!!! I love the live edge. I love the creativity.
I think it's lovely! I'm glad you saved the "spijky bits"!
Very cool. I like that you kept the bumpy side on there. That really makes it unique and one of a kind.
Thank you very much!
Couldn't be more perfect and beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Sir
That is awesome Rod, what a very creative idea, I love it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, Rod, that is incredible! Love the final shape!
Thank you very much!
Uniquely different and beautiful is how I would describe that bowl. Love it!! Great job Rod. See ya soon Brother.
Thank you, my friend!
Your vision was not misguided at all, Rod, as I had initially suspected. It is asymmetrically beautiful!
Much appreciated!
Wow - The grain pattern is really impressive. I love the way you kept the burl look. Excellent work.
Thank you so much 😀
...wow!...what a beautiful piece!...I stand by my my statement that you're a true artist...👍
Thank you so much 😀
Extremely beautiful Rod and a wonderful job turning it also!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up for your channel

Thank you so much for saving the edge. I cringe when it is cut off because it has just as much beauty as the rest of the wood.

Thank you so much!
Thanks for the scripture. That means a lot to me anyway. Too many people forget WHO gives us everything we have. God bless!

Good piece. I started to blow the dust off while you were drilling for the badge you put in. Then stopped cause I realized I was watching a video. Nice work as always.
haha! I catch myself doing the same sometimes! Thanks very much
Beautiful. I use mortises frequently so I can remount a piece if I think it needs more work after it is finished.
Thank you! I've done the same... handy.

Very nice Rod something a little different 👌👌🏴

Love the final product !

I can't explain why, but I look at this and think, "Grand Canyon." Maybe it's the hues.
I see what you mean. the hues look a bit like sediment layers
