The Game That Rutgers Upset #2 South Florida (2007)

- On October 18, 2007, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights upset the second ranked South Florida Bulls by a final score of 30-27. The USF Bulls were 6-0 going into the game, and had their sights on making a run to the BCS National Championship Game, but a combination of poor special teams, lackluster offensive line play, and a riled up Rutgers crowd ruined their chances. Rutgers was led by RB Ray Rice (181 Yards) and their special teams unit, which had a blocked field goal, successful fake punt, and successful fake field goal that resulted in a touchdown. This game was one of many upsets from the 2007 College Football season, but this game in particular might be the weirdest of all the upsets. Not only was the game itself very wacky, but these two teams are hardly ever involved in prime time games. Let me know if you have any ideas for future videos. Enjoy!

Before you guys ask, yes this game is from real life, not NCAA 14. Also, if you enjoy special teams highlights then this game is for you lol.
This game was crazy. Another good one you could do was when Oregon state upset #1 USC in 2008
Kansas almost made it to the national championship game
The craziest part wasn't Rutgers beating #2; it was South Florida *being* #2.
That Rutgers team had a lot of NFL talent. The McCourty's, Kenny Britt, and Ray Rice to name a few.
Tiquan too
i’ll never forget this, as a tampa native i was hype as hell when USF was making their run and i went to the game when they beat WVU but this night was sad 😂😂
also Matt Grothe is goated
This has to be one of my favorite upsets. I really wish south Florida tho would have went to the championship in 2007s wacky year but it’s fun to see rugerts do that.
This was that weird year where NO number 2 ranked team was safe lol...
New #2 team every week it felt like
I remember that
And in the end, it was the #2 team LSU that won it all.
@@SantanaMoss15 yeah...i mean SOMEBODY had to be number 2...
2007 was a legendary season
2007 was the first year I ever watched college football. I’ve been hooked ever since. UGA fan to death. But I just enjoy college football period
@@kingmouse9292Congrats to your Bulldogs for being back to back Champs!
That overturned call on the blocked field goal return is absolute bull.
RUTGERS IS MAKING THE PLAYOFF THIS YEAR 😤😤😤
Duh. The real question is which 2 teams will lose against Rutgers in the Playoff? 👀
@@pschighlights Kansas and Utep
@@pschighlights UTEP aka #MINORNATION could be a sneaky team that could give Rutgers a run for their money. Syracuse and Kansas will probably round out 3 & 4
@@TG8Productions yessir go Miners! I am so hyped for this season but not looking forward to all the bandwagons that join #MinerNation
@@pschighlights yall sleeping on Umass.
Thank you for uploading the highlights from this game. In the Year of the Upset, this game really flies under the radar... it was a fun game with a lot of future pros. I always felt bad for USF in this one, I still feel like they got screwed on that penalty for the "illegal fumble" in the 2nd quarter, perhaps changed the outcome of the game.
I don’t think we’ll ever see another year like 2007.
This was the year where anything is possible.
4:35 was such a shit call
Yep, he was getting tackled and the ball popped out idk how they can definitively say that was a forward pass.
Schaino had some dang solid squads his first go round at Rutgers. Took them to 6 of their 10 bowl games they've ever been to and went 5-1.
I was at this game, and the atmosphere was just electric! First time in my life I ever was in a position to storm the field after a big upset, and it was amazing!!
Then there’s the game where Michigan dropped 78 on us 😭.
2007 will always be the best year of college football
Man 2007 was a chaotic year in college football.
You wouldn’t want to be ranked #2 in 2007
2007 is the greatest season of college football ever
I def enjoyed watching this as a Rutgers fan
THIS IS WHY THE 2007 SEASON WAS THE BEST EVER
😂 I feel bad for the caps lock glitch.
If our O-line can be better, our freshman QB Wimsatt could be a Matt Groethe type player.
Wow. Ray Rice, Kenny Britt, and The Twins. Pretty star-studded Rutgers roster.
2007 was full of upsets, but my tigers came out on top 😁
The least deserving title team of all time, after UCF. . .
@@mikeschmidt4800 hater alert lol. But seriously, if not LSU vs. Ohio State, then who? Only other legitimate option was OU. Virginia Tech lost to LSU, and Georgia didn't play in the SEC title game.
@@mikeschmidt4800 lsu was 2 triple overtime losses away from being undefeated tho
@@namison06 Kansas only has 1 loss
@@5roductionz1466 their 1 loss knocked them out the Big 12 title game. The border war that year was for the Big 12 North and Mizzou won so they got a rematch with OU and lost. Again.
My 12th Grade Senior Year in High School 2007-08 just coming off Passing the Grad Exam was Math and Social Studies that Summer July a month after the Benoit Incident changed Wrestling Forever.
The magic ran out for USF
That penalty on the blocked kick return is still brutal 😓
Ray Rice was literally running over the whole USF Defence on every play. He was better than Lynch IMO.
#2 Cursed in 2007
Iirc, the week before, usf was ranked like 24th lol. They jumped up 22 spots for some reason
Actually it was 4 weeks before
How about you do a very recent upset. That time Montana upset #20 Washington
Oh god the nightmares for myself and USF fans everywhere.
The 2007 season was awesome
I was there as a kid!!!
Ah yes. I remember this game
Really hard to remember that there was a time when Rutgers wasn’t completely horrible.
They’re going to be a 9 win team in 2 years
Schiano is such an Italian.
Was the holder a QB? That was an absolute dime off the fake.
Also…. People complain about parody today in the playoff era yet we got more parody in the BCS era than we might ever have in the playoff era….
Yep it is interesting that there was way less parity once we went from 2 teams to 4.
terrible call on the blocked punt…
Field goal
@@settingsun3470 yeah ur right i was high when i wrote that😂 point still stands tho, awful call that completely changed the momentum of the game
The. Celebration penalties are the worst
Edit: the forward pass call is the worst call I’ve ever seen
nice.
One word: Rice
Ah yes, 2007. The year college football was drunk.
Can you do Michigan Ohio State 2011
Why? So you can remember the last time UM *won?
* OSU was in turmoil. You got lucky.
@@ImVee10 yeah. Good times. Michigan didn't get lucky, they were the better team. Also Michigan still leads the all time series
@@broadstreetbullies849 for now....
If the ref didn’t call pass inference on a final play the game wouldn’t been over but what a game
That was not a forward pass
You had LSU, USC, Cal, South Florida, West Virginia, Oregon, Boston College and Kansas all be #2
When Rutgers could be competitive just more than 5 minutes of the game
