Dnd with a storytelling DM is more like it's 12 Mexicans driving through Texas in a Ford Pinto. I've been in one game with a storytelling DM, and it was me. My first game, I thought to myself, 'Hmm. I should run a cool game where my heroes assembly the legendary relics before the evil dragon takes over the world!' It ended horribly. They went "off script" one time and i panicked. It all fell apart. That was in highschool.
They're not even using the dice equivalent of a GM, more like a Pontiac. Relevant in its day, but ground up and cannibalized by another company to the point that the original brand is completely unrecognizable.
If it's just about having fun, why do they continue to make "Tips and Hints" and "How to Improve..." videos? The amount of such videos number in the millions now! And why is everyone making their "fixed version" of D&D? Isn't regular D&D fun?
Storyboarding your game does sound excruciatingly tedious. Why do none of these people just have a town with 20 NPCs in it? That's a perfectly fine setting to role-play it.

CondorDM is making a kids game of his own about playing elfs. Should be fun.
