I recently completed one of your forms and I'm currently deciding between traveling to Poland or Moldova in June. If I choose Poland, I plan to bring my dog along as my companion. However, if having a dog becomes too difficult, I will leave her with my parents in the US and visit Moldova instead. I'm not interested in renting a dog, as I prefer to have a permanent pet. My main destinations of interest are Tirasopol or Bender, as they remind me of Eastern Europe from the 1990s. I believe it's worth a visit.
Good to see you in Moldova, Conor. I have a soft spot for Chisinau. First visited in summer '92 when I was a grad student in St P and was last there in 2006 from Moscow for the wine festival (though I seem to remember it was in early October then). Great climate, interesting cultural crossroads including some Ruthenian villages, old Believers and so on in the north plus the Gagauz in the south. Most of the singnage was in Russian when I first visited and "Moldovan" was written in Cyrillic. Like with "Karelian" vis à vis Finnish, the Soviet planners tried to accentuate the difference between the languages/dialects for political reasons.

The private apartments you can rent in Moldova are also really good. Last time I went I wanted to go to the open air ethnological? museum north of Chisinau, but it never happened, next time perhaps. They have reconstructed villages houses etc there. The first time I visited Moldova I crossed from Vaslui in Romania and got a bus to Hincesti (Kotovsk) in Moldova, I got given a lift to Chisinau from there, The road to chisinau absolutely captivated me it was through woods which gave the undulating landscape a much more hilly appearance than was probably case, my driver was an opera singer but the road was so pretty as a young 24 year old I thought it was great.

I visited Moldova and Transdnistria in 2019, I much preferred it in many ways to the Ukraine. Although the country is very poor and has been totally looted since its independence by its very corrupt political class. The people are very friendly and far more honest than most of the Ukrainians I came across. As a destination for "sex tourism" I would not recommend, it seems like most of the young people have left the country due to economic conditions. You will see lots of grandparents caring for young children as the children's parents have left the country. Transdnistria it actually quite different as it seems to be better run, better economy and strangely enough cheaper. A good example is shopping in Chisinau for poor people is done in a central market, shopping in Transdnistria is done in large Costco like stores. My Moldovan driver was shocked at the lower prices for better products in the huge Transdnistrian store compared to the markets in Moldova. There is definitely more to see and do in Ukraine or Romania as far as sights and night life but Moldova is still worth a short visit. Most older Moldovans speak Russian and hold a strong love for the Soviet Union as the republic was booming at that time and was a major tourist destination with its wine and a pleasant climate. Moldova's heyday was probably in the 1970's and early 80's as Gorbachev later persued an anti alcohol policy that actually saw the destruction of many ancient vineyards in the republic.

What do you say to people who say if Ukraine, or even Moldova in this case, join the EU (join The West) that their cultures will westernise into oblivion and they won't retain their distinctiveness? As much as all poorer countries aspire to become bourgeois ones, it does come with setbacks as you rightly point out with obesity, and perhaps worse again, fad movements like body positivity.

Accurate. A great place to party with beautiful women. One more thing. The level of expectations of the women in Moldova is lower so they are going to be easier to get along with. The country is poorer. So if you want to take one home with you, more will be willing to leave. One thing to watch, the alcoholism rate is higher here than any other area. Poverty is the driving force.

I don't think you know much about the state of the so-called Russian troops parked within striking distance in Transnistria. This is a cardboard army, in no way prepared to invade anyone. Plus Russia has been tied down in Southeastern Ukraine for months now, and no indication that they will succeed in pushing any further to the west. Not to mention that there are security arrangements between Moldova and Romania that aren't generally reported on. So yes, it is quite safe in Moldova.

Ukrainians must give us Bukovina in the north of Moldova and south region that neighbours with the Black sea, these territories were given to them from Moldova by USSR.
I don’t think the Moldovan army is in a position to tell the Ukrainians give them anything and moreover, Moldovans should be grateful for their continued independence which is all thanks to the heroic Ukrainian military’s defense at Voznesensk which prevented the Russian army reaching Transnistria. these parts of former Basarabia are inhabited preponderantly by non-Moldovans , so they might skew the disposition in the parliament or they need not be given citizenship to avoid that from security point of view, like in Latvia, which has Nepilsona pase for these people.

i lived 24 yrs in MD and never knew that Odesa has 900k population, which is higher than Chisinau.

Yes internet is good. Not as much free wifi as Bucharest like in Bucharest even some parks had free wifi. But of course restaurants have free wifi.

@@traceymarshall5886Yes the problem is that these people have nothing to offer the women of Ierland most of the time, so they go to poorer countries to get with someone quick mabey promise them a future and then leave ,It has almost nothing to do with the women its a very scumy thing ,like its quite obvious they dont come to Moldova Because "Its so beautiful and blah blah blah" it easier for them to spend money on a flight to go to a poor country (also to feel better then the rest) to find someone in that country then it is to find someone in Ierland💀☠️

Hey Conor. Big question for you here, and I'd love to hear your take. What do you say to people who say if Ukraine, or even Moldova in this case, join the EU (join The West) that their cultures will westernise into oblivion and they won't retain their distinctiveness? As much as all poorer countries aspire to become bourgeois ones, it does come with setbacks as you rightly point out with obesity, and perhaps worse again, fad movements like body positivity.
We welcome 'the west'. Your argument is a non issue.

Accurate. A great place to party with beautiful women. One more thing. The level of expectations of the women in Moldova is lower so they are going to be easier to get along with. The country is poorer. So if you want to take one home with you, more will be willing to leave. One thing to watch, the alcoholism rate is higher here than any other area. Poverty is the driving force.

I don't think you know much about the state of the so-called Russian troops parked within striking distance in Transnistria. This is a cardboard army, in no way prepared to invade anyone. Plus Russia has been tied down in Southeastern Ukraine for months now, and no indication that they will succeed in pushing any further to the west. Not to mention that there are security arrangements between Moldova and Romania that aren't generally reported on. So yes, it is quite safe in Moldova.

Ukrainians must give us Bukovina in the north of Moldova and south region that neighbours with the Black sea, these territories were given to them from Moldova by USSR.
I don’t think the Moldovan army is in a position to tell the Ukrainians give them anything and moreover, Moldovans should be grateful for their continued independence which is all thanks to the heroic Ukrainian military’s defense at Voznesensk which prevented the Russian army reaching Transnistria.

these parts of former Basarabia are inhabited preponderantly by non-Moldovans , so they might skew the disposition in the parliament or they need not be given citizenship to avoid that from security point of view, like in Latvia, which has Nepilsona pase for these people.
