DUDE i'M With ya !! WTF doesn't do better than MORE HP?? and APR vs Eurodyne?? Eurodyne is HUGE diffence in turbo experience !! APR falls off WAY too soon!!
"If I could only have one car I would have the Golf R." That's also what I said and bought the MK7 R in December. Use it every day for a fun commute and loving every second of it... Except when stuck for half an hour in city traffic.. That sucks.. In every car..
Thanks for sharing. I had three GTI. 2004,2007,2013 and loved all of them but now I have a 2015 black Abarth. Mods I have to make the car insane. Go pedal, cool air intake, light weight pulley, throttle body, Diverter valve, front mount intercooler 220 hp
I saw a totally destroyed Mk7 that hit a cow yesterday. . so sad. One thing about it is, seeing a dead Golf R -> the mk7 if its looked after I will be surprised if the price will ever go down. I have a 2015 with 60k on it with only brake rotor/pads upgrade and rest is stock. Change oil every 5km and use only the finest fuels and fluids while just looking after it like it will last longer than my human life.. yet used daily. Totally the perfect car that can daily and be as fun as can be through the hills. Love it
My biggest nit on APR over several other tunes is the fact that you *must* go to a shop to get it done, updated, etc. and pay shop labor each time. Eurodyne, Unitronic, etc. have the right idea in that they support shop tunes, but also sell a cable that lets you handle it on your own.
A lot of guys up here in the NW are running the APR tune and piggybacking a JB4 tune as well. Then running water/meth to keep it chill! Great Vid! I'm biased as I own this car in white.
Nice video. Good point, the factory tune is satisfactory for the R and the fact that a number of tuners offering GTI upgrades dont even touch the golf R speaks to that point. Myself, I have a MK6 GTI and at first was going to go APR but in the end decided to go with Cobb Tuning. The accessport they use can go from stage 1 to stage 1+(with intake) to stage 2(with downpipe and intake) and back to stock without going any farther than my driveway so being able to have the freedom to flash any off-the-shelf map for free and even get custom tunes to accommodate additional hard-parts like upgraded turbo or intercooler is supurb, im not forced to stay with one parts source to continue my upgrade path.
Completely agree with your take on tuning. I'm just started to buy some parts for my Mk7 R but the smoothness and balance of the stock power is more important to me than extra hp. Just subscribed, great content !
Great R ! Just got the MK7 + Perf Pack as you advised enjoying it's stock abilities and take it step by step. Back roads around my area rolling through the bottom and top of just 3rd gear is just amazing!
If the turbo fails and you can't use your warranty because you're tuned, that's why. Throttle response is much better with a tune, but you don't really feel that unless you don't roll into the gas.
For me the minute you do a substantial build like this you are your own warranty. I think many VW dealers will warranty (and install) APR tunes so that is always a thought. From my experience those worried about warranties aren't typically the ones building up project cars.
Love your little summary at the end about the Type R. I'm thinking of selling my 997 and a BMW X5 and putting the cash into a Type R. Your review was great. Thanks heaps.
I ran Both APR and UM tunes on my Golf R.... found the APR tune more "fun" with a little bit more of a mid range punch. Although on paper the UM made more torque, I had more fun with the APR tune
Excellent info on the Golf-R Tuning!! I agree 100% about enjoying a nice sports car factory tune for a while before doing any mods. I have been dubber for a long time myself. I'm kinda regretting getting a MKVII GTI due to sunroof noise. Makes me wish I went Golf-R.
This MK7 is silly hot!! Love the channel and content partner. Growing pretty good. I got my 2013 VW CC in part thx to your vids. Now its on coilovers, , 20's, apr stg2, and a few more goodies. i just put on a MK6 gti steering wheel with the paddle shifters. Fantastic mode. changes the look and feel ten fold. Try it on yours!! Peace.
Absolutely first class Mk7 build. As for tunes both the APR and Unitronic are top shelf tuning companies. I ended up going with the Unitronic because it seems there TCU software was a little bit superior to APR's. Either way you can't go wrong. The APR feels more like a "TUNED" car while the Unitronic feels like a really fast stock vehicle. I disagree about tuning. In general Car manufactures have to tune and set up the suspension for the average buyer and the average drivers ability to drive. VW could have tuned the MK7 GTI/R to make real power and set up the suspension as a enthusiasts car as it should have. But then people would scream that it is difficult to drive instead of looking at their terrible driving habits. The new generation of tuners are giving those of us who truly want a "SPORTS CAR" and have the ability to exploit the handling limits to have exactly what we want. Golden age of CARS is right NOW. I have owned a MK1 GTI, MK3 16V, VR6 GTI, Scorrico 16v, Corrado G60(Tuned by John Buffum in Vt), 2 Jetta GLI's and even a Fox. These are just the VW' plus another 5-6 Audi's. I can tell you the MK7 is an awesome platform. VW/Audi I love you.
It's good to see someone making just cosmetic modifications to their car for that unique look and/or point of differentiation but keeping the engine as stock as possible.
For a car like the R you can afford to make it look fast and just do cosmetics. I can't stand when people get cars that aren't fast or aren't meant to be fast like a Dart or Corolla and make them look fast. My GTI is quick stock but I'm definitely going to put bolt ons and a tune before I make it look like it can handle cars in higher segments.
Holy shit. Fuck UA-cam man. I've missed pretty much every video you have made since you done the MK4 Golf R32 review months ago because I didn't have the bell clicked. I haven't even seen any of your videos in my subscription feed. Keep up the good work. BELL IS CLICKED!
Without looking at your channel! Over a year later, im going to Sub to you and spend the entire Xmas day watching your videos. Hope you don't let me down
This guy works where I work at. I saw him one day and just wanted to chop it up with him about his his car since I have a MK7 GTI. When I asked him what was done to it he said it's all stock and I gave him a stupid look and said ok. Little does he know I've been in the game for since the 90s and I'm deep in the game. smh Some people these days but he goes on the net and blast everything.
This is exactly what I need to see more of. As a mk7r owner I don't see much out there for us everything is mk7 gti. I'm always cautious before I buy parts I wanna research what I'm spending money on. So far I have the H&R lowering springs, 42dd downpipe, roc-euro intake, 034 dogbone. I think I'm going UM tuned. Not sure on the exhaust system yet.
Love Vdubs. I'm a air cooled guy the couple water cooled I had , had nothing but electrical issues. Back to building my good ole reliable Hondas. sweet car though
I agree with you on the "wait to tune" statement. It is a fantastic automobile with a stock tune and misc go fast bits. But...I will tune mine after a year of ownership. Why? Because I want a meaner street machine! Great vids man! Love your channel!
Wow lol I think you may have gained a sub bro! Ur enthusiasm and passion for these cars make me relate. I was actually thinking about getting rid of my SS camaro an getting the golf R and I was hoping I'd find a golf channel to watch to help me get to know the R and stuff after I get it an I may have just found it. I'd rather have the scirocco R but the golf will do. We should all start a petition for vw to bring the scirocco to the states!
commenting again to let say since I came over from grizzlytv im shocked I had not found your channel sooner, amazing quality and awesome content! I'm a loyal subscriber now! keep the great content coming!
Niiiiice video. Love the enthusiasm for the R. I've got a mk6 R with the APR 1+ tune, and I haven't had one issue with the flash or the car in nearly four years. Subscribed, and liked. :)
I love your content, vehicles, quality, and passion. I've been subbed for some time and I'm yet to be unpleased. Great job man. I support your hustle. 💪🏼
Dude I agree with you so much. So many people today get lost in the horsepower war and want to just tune the shit out of everything. A car is no different than any other system and when you upset the balance you undo what the engineers created. Well said Stu, they are fantastic cars. And as great as the Golf R is, the S3 is the ultimate daily ;)
GTI APRbeast I have APR S1 and I'm getting into the 2 now. Lemme ask you something that he said. He said "throw some racing fuel in it and you're good " I know from having a shop and so on that the ECU is mapped to the octane ratings. And we know it means that if you had it tuned to use 94 octane then used 101 the pre ignition and combustion is going to be off. Possible engine knocking or worse. It could get too hot in the engine bcuz the fuel isn't being used properly. I USED TO put that shit in my old car all the time. Turbo 108. Then upgraded to the real shit online and add points as I wanted them. It was an old Pontiac. So I think it would've run on cologne. But it felt like it did something. But with this upgrade the tags from APRA said DO NOT use race fuel in here unless we map it for that. Bcuz if it damages the car or any parts involved herein, then it will be yours to pay for. Not warranted at all and it will most likely be a major failure. Have u used octane booster in your R and if so , what are you mapped to run ? And when did you upgrade your clutch? Sorry for the run on lol. I love this car and I don't want to dick it up like I've seen some people do on TY already. I know my way around the engine. But we left this to them to do and he was trying to show me how to remap it myself if I went to race. Lol. I told him not yet. I'm still S1. So I'm working my way there. Just wanted to know about the booster and the clutch and which ones of either do u recommend. 👊🏻💯🌖
nolongerhuman13 I have a GTI. You are correct. If you're tuned for 93 and use 101 octane the ignition and timing will be different resulting in loss of power. APR has certain tunes for fuel, 91, 93, 100, 104 octane maps. All of which have been tweaked to perfection of safety and power. Any questions hit me up on Instagram - Boosted_mk6
@@BoostedMK6 I am stage 2 on Eurodyne - just elim #1 cat on 2014 Eos ( yep- HARD TOP convertible!!) Made "fart" DSG shifts more pronounced--- made turbo SPOOL faster--- Ive Actually timed (with highway tires ) less than 5 sec 0-60 times !!

I'm planning on building up a mk6. Any chance you would review it once I finish it? Would be cool to see the car on a big page! Love all the R videos!!

dude, when are you gonna bag the cc? it would look crazy hot, and i know a bunch of vw guys would love the air ride install diy. also you should join the facebook volkswagen cc owners club group!
No problem man love the content , you stay grinding ! At first I thought " his friend Joe got himself another car " hah his white Golf R was beautiful too both are sick !
You are my hero for this vid. I was just researching this for my mk7R.... Ok I like your style now. Just finished the vid. I may keep it stock as I kinda wanted. Can you get the parts list for lowing the car?
And mainly im thinking of tuning is that if i have more people riding with me i feel there is huge back stab in performance, with more torque i hope the ride would be more smooth with even 4 dudes in and having fun, what you think?
The whole point of getting a R is to get it at least to the stage 2 point so you can enjoy a high 11 sec car and shit on way more expensive sports cars. I got every single performance mod on my mk7 GTI and love it. If it was stock I wouldn't like it
I was wondering why I haven't seen any videos from you recently and no notifications. I turns out UA-cam still has not fixed the Unsubscribing issues and I was unsubbed. WTF Shittube? Anyway, I always enjoy your content and your positive approach.
Why would you have breather mods on your car and not tune it? You do know that this can potentially make the car run lean or not optimal depending on the ecu's ability to adjust. Tuning is always a good idea to ensure the engine is still running at a safe air/fuel ratio.
I picked myself up a 2016 Golf R three weeks ago. and a fantastic deal. I paid 26,555 miles 19,224
Guy names video, "which ECU tune is the best"
Then spends half the video making a case why you don't need to tune your car...thumbs down...
DUDE i'M With ya !! WTF doesn't do better than MORE HP?? and APR vs Eurodyne?? Eurodyne is HUGE diffence in turbo experience !! APR falls off WAY too soon!!
Almost halfway threw the video and I’ll ive heard about the car is don’t forget to subscribe.this is crap
This is probably the most good looking 7R ever.
The design has not changed in 10 years? WTF?
Sean Johnstone you must be blind Old man
I agree bro, it looks soooo good!!!
Looks nice, and expensive!
Agreed. I normally like the Lapiz Blue but this makes the Tornado Red look killer.
Alex's car looks great! He's a great dude
THANKS DEUSTSCHE!!!!!! Love you guys!!!
I wanted a wrx or sti for the passed 10 years ... but I might be leaning towards this Golf R now.. its so sexy..
I was a subaru owner and fan for years until I got my mk6R .. revo stage 2+ and now mk7R to be tuned soon.
I was in the same boat a few years ago.
Versus the STi and Focus RS, the Golf R is much more refined. As a daily the R is so much more comfortable.
"If I could only have one car I would have the Golf R." That's also what I said and bought the MK7 R in December.
Use it every day for a fun commute and loving every second of it... Except when stuck for half an hour in city traffic.. That sucks.. In every car..

Legit the best VW and MK7 videos on youtube though.

"stock" is for sissys/// mod the fuck out of it!!
Subscribed! You're the man....
And mainly im thinking of tuning is that if i have more people riding with me i feel there is huge back stab in performance, with more torque i hope the ride would be more smooth with even 4 dudes in and having fun, what you think?
Drive some tuned mkv and mkvi cars and you'll see why we tune them. The cars just feel so much more alive
damn! WHOW
wicked ride. I love it
Don't forget to send some love to the Audi S3. Being the same powertrain and all but the car is also great and looks amazing :).
Beautifully done! 👍
Love the R. Sold 29 of them so far :)
Subscribed dude. Sweet car.
are you still driving mk7 golf r's ?
i just got one ...I have subscribed for this content ?
Wow this car looks sooo good
Just found your channel, really awesome quality!
The whole point of getting a R is to get it at least to the stage 2 point so you can enjoy a high 11 sec car and shit on way more expensive sports cars. I got every single performance mod on my mk7 GTI and love it. If it was stock I wouldn't like it
I'd like to have just Eurodyne stage 1 but not gonna risk paying for engine repair or a new engine out of warranty.
I was wondering why I haven't seen any videos from you recently and no notifications. I turns out UA-cam still has not fixed the Unsubscribing issues and I was unsubbed. WTF Shittube? Anyway, I always enjoy your content and your positive approach.
subbed, great vids
The Euro tail lights are just an essential mod on this car
Subbed! Much love bro
The big breaks aren't needed but love the car.
New sub, loved your Corrado on One Take! (sold). Sounds 10x better than this R haha. Though this car is awesome as well!
Would like to see some more old vw's. Golf 1 Golf 2 etc.
subscribed 😊 nice content
What are your thoughts of the APR Stage 1 for a regular GTI? Also thinking about new springs to lower it an inch or so? Thoughts?
Cheers-
APR stage 1 high torque is pretty awesome bang for buck
With the current mods he has he would definitely need a tune. Those mods would make the car run rich and not that well.
Why would you have breather mods on your car and not tune it? You do know that this can potentially make the car run lean or not optimal depending on the ecu's ability to adjust. Tuning is always a good idea to ensure the engine is still running at a safe air/fuel ratio.
Send this to VW as a future design, proper sound
