As an American who randomly discovered this series in 2010s, I’m excited
As an American who's first comics were from his dad's stash of Asterix comics from Europe, I'm surprised to see a repeat animation adaptation.
I love asterix so much
I wish more adaptations could embrace the comic book style more
Agreed!
The 2D animation effects of Asterix drinking the magic potion, as well as the Gauls thrashing the Romans in onomatopoeia makes the adaptation gets way closer to the original comics in terms of style. Can't believe the Asterix movies has come along the way since _Mansion of the Gods_ and _Secret of the Magic Potion._
I prefer hand drawn animation too
The films go back to the 60's actually.
I love the magic potion and seeing asterix so strong
The popeye that should have been, and im ready for it
If the same studio made popeye, that would be awesome
Probably not but it looks similar to it
@@BasedGoji Sony could get another shot with Popeye, just needs a better plot and new art style whilst stay true to the cartoons and the comic strips.
So this is a TV series! Sometimes it’s so good to tell a lot of the time whether something is a TV series or movie based on marketing. Especially streaming. It’s so hard to predict sometimes.
I was a big Asterix fan when I was a kid. My mom introduced me to the comic series because she also read and loved the comics when she was young. Asterix also increased my interest in ancient history and my love of history led to me getting a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in African Studies. I've watched a few of the animated Asterix films and I'm looking forward to the Netflix TV show. I'm sure the Netflix show will help introduce new fans to the Asterix franchise and cause more people to become fascinated by ancient history.
Over here, Asterix is basically just there in independent comic book stores around college towns. Maybe you'll see them at a Barnes and Nobel, maybe you had a French class in high school where the teacher had a few volumes laying around. Supposedly the Disney Channel ran some of the movies in the 80's, and I distinctly remember seeing a couple of them on VHS. He just doesn't have Tintin presence, which at least he had a TV series back in the day. I'm glad we're getting an actual attempt at bringing this series globally. They DID have that one movie they tried to get the US to accept the character, writing the English script to fit American humor, casting the English version with Paul Giamatti as Asterix and Brad Garret as Obelix, but other than one single film festival, it didn't run in theaters and didn't even get a DVD release over here.
I was surprised when I found out that my American peers did not know anything about Asterix.
@@bananaleech2985 It really say something when the most well know Franco Belgian comic is The Smurfs, and even then most people associate it ONLY with a 1980's cartoon series. That said, it's about time Asterix actually got a TV series, considering, well, the Smurfs obviously, but Tintin and Lucky Luke also had a run at an episodic series. Lucky Luke at least twice. Probably because Asterix's creators had a bug up their butts about animation quality. They forced them to shelve and destroy an almost completed movie because it looked "cheap."
This looks so good I think! I’m a big fan of Asterix! He definitely works better in animation than live-action any day of the year!
I'm not familiar with the world of Asterix either, but I'm glad more French properties are getting more recognition.
interestingly enough, the previous adaptation was a combination of Asterix and the Big Fight and Asterix and the Soothsayer, though apparently shall be only based on the former title, right?
If Calvin and Hobbes got an animated film, I would be happy 😌
The creator has a massive stick up his butt about any adaption of his comics. Long story short, that's why we have Calvin peeing on things T-shirts instead of tasteful collectibles.
As someone who grew up with Asterix in the Netherlands I can say that I’m excited for this😁
I'm glad we're getting something from asterix and obelix! I can't tell you how frustrated I was being in Germany back in the 80s and couldn't read any of his Comics or understand the cartoons because I was a foreigner!😂😢( Luckily some of its Toons got dubbed and the comics are available in the US!❤️💪)
The 1989 animated adaptation of The Big Fight is a interesting Asterix movie, not only for it being an adaptation of not one but two Asterix comics, but because it has two English dubs.
HELL YEAH!!!!!
I remember watching the original animated version as a kid not knowing that there’s alot of love for the franchise.
One thing I like to see get animated is the other British comics outside of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher. Like Bash Street Kids, Desperate Dan, Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger, and more. Even a revival of Bananaman could be great since the days of Nickelodeon.
Beano vs Dandy.
@@williamdoyle1108 There is also Buster, Whizzer and Chips, Nutty, Beezer, Topper, Cheeky, Plug, Buzz, and even some of the non-comical magazines as well.
yes i am exited about asterix and obelix the big fight series on netflix🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I’m looking forward to the Big Fight. I love the animated movies more than the live action ones and I do love the comics and games too. I do own some of the movies on Blu-Ray and DVD too. As an American, I wish it was easier to own and buy these movies on Blu-Ray, Asterix and the Vikings is probably my favorite Asterix movie. I’m glad this one is heading to Netflix. I think this one will be fun.
If you wanna know what it's all about, here is the typical introduction every Asterix comic starts with: "The year is 50 BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. All of Gaul? No! One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum, and Compendium." Those gauls have acces to a magical potion that gives them insane strength. It's brewed by their druid Miraculix and they treat punching roman invaders into the sky like its their favorite past time. Asterix is the smarted warrior of the village and Obelix is the strongest because he fell into the cauldron with the potion as a kid and now he just stays strong forever. Together they fight against the latest trick the romans have come up with to conquer the little village or travel the ancient world to help someone else.
The comedy largely comes from Asterix and Obelix being both best friends and constantly bickering. Obelix is kinda dumb but very sensitive and he loves to eat a lot. Asterix is very pragmatic but a bit bossy. There are also a whole bunch of running gags, like the villagers constantly fighting, Obelix trying to trick the druid into giving him more potion even though he doesn't need it, the roman legionaires just accepting their fate of getting punched regularly. All the gauls names end with "-iX" all the romans with "-us" and they do funny wordplay with that. Sometimes we meet pirates who are so scared of the gauls they usually sink their own ship before they can get beat up. And every story ends with a huge feast in the village and the bard Troubadix (who can't sing for the life of him) is gagged and tied to a tree.
You can find the earlier animated films "Asterix in Britain" and "Asterix and Ceasar" in full length and english here on UA-cam and also various audiobooks. My personal favorite is the movie "Asterix Conquers Rome", which probably streams somewhere.
That's so cool
I didn’t know you liked asterix dave. I love it immensely and my dad bond over it. If you ever made a cartoon evolution on the Gaul I would definitely watch it (though If you don’t I can live with that.)
My parents got me some of the comic books when I was a kid, and Cartoon Network Latin America used to air all the cartoon movies every sunday in the late 90s
This better be amazing.
Awesome video!
Fun fact: In this miniseries,The voice of Asterix in France it's the same actor who voice Shrek in French Dub.
Very cool!
@@DaveLeeDownUnderAnd what funny thing is,this isn't his first time direct, write and play a character in the Asterix adaptation. He previously direct, write and play a character in Asterix And Obelix Mission Cleopatra. He play Julius Caesar in the movie.
Also, this isn't the first time where Asterix actor also direct the adaptation. The previous Asterix movie The Middle Kingdom,Asterix actor Guillaume Canet also direct the movie.
It'll be cool if we got an Asterix cartoon evolution
My favorite characters
Asterix episode of Cartoon Evolution when?
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😂❤🎉❤❤❤
Asterix is another strong cartoon action hero like Popeye.
Would this mean an Asterik evolution is on its way
What this movie will going to be in movie studios???
Is it like…….
Sony Pictures Animation???
DreamWorks Animation???
Illumination Entertainment???
Blue Sky Studios???
Or
Warner Animation Group???
As I mentioned in the video, it’s from French studio TAT Productions.
And it’s a series, not a movie.
This is gonna get punchy
These are the same animation studios as the previous films.
I prefer hand drawn animation. 3D not for me
