Super. Never seen this film before. My local line and I walk/cycle along part of the track bed, weather permitting.

I think these shots are late October/November1965. The state of the ex GWR loco suggests likewise. This makes this video more remarkable as these are probably some of the last moving shots of ex GWR tender engine on ordinary duties on the Midland.
Another clue is the lighting. Later in the year daylight is getting harder and film at that time did not respond well in low light, even though it looks like a good day. Ive tried to look at the state of the Trees and at 1.29 the tree is bare, even 1.43 suggesting autumn. The sun appears low and behind us as we travel
Great Western steam was summarily withdrawn on 31 December 1965. After that date, any ex-GWR locos at work on the erstwhile Western Region had been transferred to the Midland Region following boundry changes a year or so beforehand. On 7th November 1965, there were only c145 ex GWR locos,of the tender engines, there was only 1 Castle, a few Halls, a number of Granges and Manors. By 13 August 1966 there were only 17 Panniers left on the LMR. To me, that image looks like a Grange. LMR, ex GWR Grange locos in 1965 were from 2A Tysley, 2B, Oxley and 2D Banbury. They were
    2A 6853, 6855, 6861, 6879.
    2B 6831, 6833, 6871
    2D 6930,6951, 6952
All the remaining LMR Manors were at 6D Shrewsbury before withdrawal on the Cambrian line.
Looking at withdrawal dates no exGWR tender loco was officially operating after 31/12/1965. I remember seeing some of the last movements at Oxford.
By the end of 1966 the 43000 4mt's were remakably a class of loco still largely intact less than 20 years old.
Here are some shots Oxley's Grange's in 1965

For future historians: in 1967, the terms "LMS" and "GWR" were historic and had no bearing on the operation of the railway, here the BR Midland Region.

I used to live overlooking the cutting of what used to be Newcastle under Lyme station. Is that the closed station with lifted up track at the end?

Yes it is, along with the restricted bridge clearance siding that used to be there

This can't be 1967 i am afraid, there were no ex GWR tender locos in operation in 1967 on BR. 1966 possibly 1965 just about.

Passenger traffic ceased in September 63 at Market Drayton and the station closed completely on 1 May 67 so yes, around the 66/67 mark due to the 43000 from Stoke
