He came back for another season and had changed significantly into what you see on Tested. He addressed it right at the beginning of Season 5, so go back and watch that.
thank you for posting this. i'm just assembling my gear for a 501st application and watching this is pretty much how i've been spending my last couple of weeks
Good thing is that you can always pause the video or go back, right? Or there is the thumbnail (it's not showing the whole body, but... I guess you need to wait for part 3): i.ytimg.com/vi/beaHxW5o-uw/maxresdefault.jpg
the best part about these vids and the podcasts is watching Norm's eyes dart nervously around when he's not speaking, like he's not sure where to look.
I know I am most likely gonna get hater comments below, but in Bender's response, "Bite my shinny metal @$$" I am such a geek. As soon as you guys started to remove the protective plastic, I got all emotional. Goosebumps everywhere. 😲😍😍
+Ray Purchase Could be, but for vacuum formed pieces of plastic it is still waaaay too expensive. The material costs for all those pieces is 25 bucks at the most.
+micglou Aye, but it'd be all the R&D, manufacturing, licensing and general infrastructure required for such a niche product. Its not like they'll sell 100,000's of these things.
naycnay I'm sorry, but that's just bull... even if they only sold a few of them. In small amounts it doesn't take big infrastructure etc... just a couple of workers and a couple of models and vacuum formers. And because it's licensed they must've had access to 3D models etc, but they still deliver a very rough product... The profit margin on these are huge without a doubt, even taking in account every aspect... or the licensing on it is just ridiculously high and that still counts as profit only not for the manufacturer. 1700 dollars is far from a reasonable price... it's pure theft by whoever cashes in on those (looking at you Disney!)
@27:55 The knees looks bad, but the rest is awesome, and yes its because there is no PROPER guidline so very good job tested. i hope in the future that would get fixed.
+Francesco Gavardi If you're planning on doing this, maybe you should get a man to use the power tools for you. That way, you don't have to be afraid of getting a booboo on your fingers.
This isn't a slight at Frank or Norm in any way because they did the best they could with what they got, however final result from this product is nowhere near what it costs to buy. The concept is great, but considering how much it costs, how much effort and work has to go into it, and what the final result is when you get there, I'm afraid this is a bit of a disappointment.
You can make pretty dang strong ABS cement with scrap ABS and acetone you can find the blend online its is better since you can make the glue in the color that you are gluing. But if you cant get pure acetone don't try it
I like the Star Wars storm trooper amour (and especially, the Shadow Trooper amour) as in Star Wars it's self, the real Storm Trooper amour is made out of plastic (be it that the plastic may have added high, head resistance to counteract the damaging effects from the laser beams that come from blasters). So if you buy this kit, your not buying something that's 'suppose' to look like Storm trooper or Shadow a Trooper amour instead, your actually assembling real Stormtrooper/Shadow trooper amour if you think about it :D
Haha! Frank, you're awesome. Say, what do you think of using hot glue with the PVC or ABS armor? I'm guessing that it's pretty elastic so it could work better than other glues. Also be cleaner and dry faster (more 'cooling down' rather than 'dry', but you know what I mean).
+Doan08 Because any wear on these would look just like worn, scuffed cheap plastic. If you wanted a "worn" look you'd have to do a ton of airbrushing, just scuffing up the plastic would look terrible.
+Doan08 I think they're referring to accidental scratches from drilling or cutting if your hand slips or if you make a mistake somehow. Such scratches wouldn't be accurate to the "battle-worn" look the movies wanted, and they gave you a way to fix those mistakes.
a question about the vacuum forming process: do they form it with the transparent protective layer on the sheet of plastic or do they stick it afterwards? do you have to remove the inside one (vacuum side) before the forming?
So much talent in this show. Really awesome guys and thanks for video taping it all. Haha I still say tape. Im old. Have you considered changing the area at the knee and instead simply wearing a kind of small mini knee pad there?
Can someone tell me what the purple armor on left side of Frank is? It looks so familiar, but I can`t for the life of me not remember where I have seen it before!
Went to the Anovos site and we disappointed to see these are now almost $1000 for a kit. I know this was a few years ago but really, that's a little more than inflation.
Good to see norm hetting in and geeting it done. I just wish he would rest his work peice on the bench and not try free hand parts.... hes learning though
is a "shadowtrooper" part of the movies or books? i don't remember them. or is this some kind of just made up stuff where they just made a stormtrooper black instead of white
Watch part 1 of our build here: ua-cam.com/video/OFbBs9M0cqw/v-deo.html
Frank is really good on camera. Great voice, and generally comes across as a genuinely nice person.
You obviously didn't watch him on the tv show "face off" Frank is the biggest douche ever.
+Aaron Mac In defense to Frank, I think most everyone on those shows are meant to act like douche bags. Its a competition and It's what get's ratings.
+Aaron Mac key word "TV" show...
He came back for another season and had changed significantly into what you see on Tested. He addressed it right at the beginning of Season 5, so go back and watch that.
and we barely get to see the result, only a few seconds? dudes....
thank you for posting this. i'm just assembling my gear for a 501st application and watching this is pretty much how i've been spending my last couple of weeks
30 minute video, 15 seconds showing the completed armor...
Good thing it's titled as building the armor.
Good thing it's titled as building the armor.
Good thing it's titled as building the armor.
Kevin Eder With a thumbnail indicating it was finished.
Good thing is that you can always pause the video or go back, right?
Or there is the thumbnail (it's not showing the whole body, but... I guess you need to wait for part 3):
i.ytimg.com/vi/beaHxW5o-uw/maxresdefault.jpg
NORMTROOPER!
+baccracker you beat me to it
All that work and then we are shown the completed suit for two seconds--and only from one angle. Thanks for rewarding my time.
an hour of building kit and 10 seconds of showing only the front when worn? :/ damn
6:47 watch Norm transform into an average Chinese citizen.
+Alistar Wormwood Well played.... actually laughed.
+Alistar Wormwood lol that's a little racist tho
+wpattison LMFAO! That was great!
+wpattison
PWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I think just peed my chonis! 😂
+Hank Scorpio Most people dont understand that racial stereotypes are not always rooted in racism./

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS!
I feel like that kit is way too expensive for having to do that much clean up.
+DarkJedi3000 Its for hobbyists who are also star wars enthusiasts. The clean up is just part of the hobby.

+DarkJedi3000 then kits are not for you. because this is exactly what someone ordering a kit over the assembled version is expecting and wanting.
I guess you guys should have attached the back hand piece directly to the glove for a better finish.
Hopefully we don't have to wait 3 months for part 3
+TweakAthang Starting to look that way
+TweakAthang I say 5 months
+TweakAthang 3 months ago XD
What do ya know its been 5 months...
+atomicvoxxel Do I get a cookie? :3
1/8 ballnose endmill in a pencil grinder would be a dream. Bit of a learning curve, but it finishes/deburrs heavenly.
THIS IS SOOOOO GEEKY, STAR WARS FOREVER!!!
Of the many things that Disney had to make non-cannon, this is in my top 5 things they should've kept.
Now we need a ShadowTrooper weathering video
YES!!! FINALY!!! I have be eagerly impatiently waiting for this video for months... well it feels like months anyway.
@27:55 The knees looks bad, but the rest is awesome, and yes its because there is no PROPER guidline so very good job tested. i hope in the future that would get fixed.
he covered the mic when he put that armor on.
miniops12 ok you dont need to be an ass. I'm flagging your comment for that.
Frank makes that armor look nice!
Lining the inside with thin foam would make it pretty comfortable and look more legitimate
black pop rivets after using the cement would be a good idea with the straps, the cement can dry rot after awhile
Watching these guys build I am just waiting for a "Oops!" Hahaha! While they're grinding away. But man this is AWESOMENESS!!!
that power tool usage is dangerous and unsafe as fuck
Cry about,it
+Francesco Gavardi If you're planning on doing this, maybe you should get a man to use the power tools for you. That way, you don't have to be afraid of getting a booboo on your fingers.
+Francesco Gavardi Not really. They're air powered. As soon as you let it go, it stops. You barely flinch or twitch your thumb and they stop working.
Would like to see a white body suit under the black armor. Think that may look pretty cool.
It would look good with some titanium gold pin striping for the Novatrooper look.
This isn't a slight at Frank or Norm in any way because they did the best they could with what they got, however final result from this product is nowhere near what it costs to buy. The concept is great, but considering how much it costs, how much effort and work has to go into it, and what the final result is when you get there, I'm afraid this is a bit of a disappointment.
then why not get the completed suit from anovos
This is great! I've wanted a series like this for ages!
You can make pretty dang strong ABS cement with scrap ABS and acetone you can find the blend online its is better since you can make the glue in the color that you are gluing. But if you cant get pure acetone don't try it

nice timing i needed something to watch while downloading the battlefront beta
Yay! You did a part 2! I was waiting so long so thank you!
Nice job guys!
cant wait for part 3
I thought that was Matthew Santoro in the thumbnail for a sec😂
Same
+Al Smith same
+Al Smith a fat Matthew Santoro
so the guy with the glasses is taking part in making a Star Wars Stormtrooper armor and HE'S WEARING A FUCKING STAR TREK TOP!!! WOOOOW!!!!
This is about time! I have been waiting for ages!
I couldn't sleep. great timing!!
his right leg knee area was a bit of a fail.
When is part 3?!?!?? I want to have everything ready when the movie comes out
frank should do his own show
Haha! Frank, you're awesome.
Say, what do you think of using hot glue with the PVC or ABS armor? I'm guessing that it's pretty elastic so it could work better than other glues. Also be cleaner and dry faster (more 'cooling down' rather than 'dry', but you know what I mean).
I think i'm gonna buy this suit next year & turn it into a Shadow Guard uniform!
it Looks pretty bad on him. nothing else i can say
Seems Legit why would you even comment that
Love Star Wars and science and tech
There was a Bothan filming, from the balcony. I just thought you might want to know that.
12:54 why would you do that?
part of what made SW so special in it's time was the wear on the equipment.
Do you guys have any recommendations for transporting the parts without scratching or damaging them..?
Any updates? How are the annovos supplied straps, snaps, Velcro, etc work out for you?
i really think shadow troopers....they are the best
Norm strikes back!!!!!
*18:39** - NORM HAS A STALKER !!!*
lol
6:34 "I am sure that when Anovos has their final instructions, everything will be easy..." UPDATE: kit received, NO INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED
a question about the vacuum forming process: do they form it with the transparent protective layer on the sheet of plastic or do they stick it afterwards? do you have to remove the inside one (vacuum side) before the forming?
thanks.
+nraynaud1 It is on during forming.
Question for Norm, I cant really wear the dust masks since they fog up my glasses so badly that I can't see, how do you get around that?
So much talent in this show. Really awesome guys and thanks for video taping it all. Haha I still say tape. Im old.
Have you considered changing the area at the knee and instead simply wearing a kind of small mini knee pad there?
What are the suits of armor to the left in the background? They look Very interesting!
What about part 3???? Come on guys!! 😫
Plastic looks way too thin for 700 bucks. No thanks
+zack9912000 Consider the helmet cost 250. So the rest of the armor is 450 for the kit. And the plastic looks thin but its actually quite sturdy
Seriously it's strong enough to prevent a snake bite
you guy should make predator🐯
Can someone tell me what the purple armor on left side of Frank is? It looks so familiar, but I can`t for the life of me not remember where I have seen it before!
Do you think a 5'10 girl can wear this? Or heat form the chest and waist area just a bit to fit better? Asking for myself lol
more info on the shine and buff stuff. What brands, where to get it??
Frank is the bomb!
Lowe the costume (and the Thriller t-shirt)!
You guys look like Spaceballs
Went to the Anovos site and we disappointed to see these are now almost $1000 for a kit. I know this was a few years ago but really, that's a little more than inflation.
I bet in the future we just press a few buttons and we get whatever stormtrooper armour we want
Home Depot definitely has ABS cement. I get it there all the time.
Are the shadow troopers cannon anymore ?
Good to see norm hetting in and geeting it done. I just wish he would rest his work peice on the bench and not try free hand parts.... hes learning though
14:02 wow just putting on the chest piece alone already makes you sound like you're wearing the helmet.
carbon fiber shadowtrooper would be cooler than just black
hey curious where can i get starfleet shirt? i mean the one Spock wore in 2009 movie.
lol i see the black armor has a bit of a slimming effect Frank
It kinda looks like they're putting together a sado maso armor.
Is that Garrus armor on the left of the screen??
D: missed the deal for the full suit. hope they'll lower the price again
the thing on the back of the belt is a thermal detonator
+frost gaming www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TX_shadow_stormtrooper
scroll down- "AKA O2 Canister"
+Frank Ippolito oh I never knew that was the nick name for it
Frank looks hot in the shadow stormtrooper suit :-))
Never mind the suit. Who are those chicks?
what's the armors in the background?
I WOULD SO HAVE SHADOW TROOPER ARMOR, PLUS O.D.S.T
i thought they gonna use fiberglass mat and use the kit as the mold
He got the parts from dungeons, one more raid to get the Epic Black & shine piece and i "quote" ! he will be fully operational proceed with caution
I would give anything for one of these if they have clones as well
So cool!
Too bad I already have a Shadow Guard and a Shadow Scout.
What happened to part 3? D:
Nice video very useful
anovos takes so long to ship. i ordered my helmet in may and still waiting -_- they pushed the launch date a couple times.
Isnt that the guy from face off he was an assailed in that show until someone in his life past away
Really, 12 seconds to see partially finished product!? Put the helmet on!
its been almost 1 year my dudes
is a "shadowtrooper" part of the movies or books? i don't remember them. or is this some kind of just made up stuff where they just made a stormtrooper black instead of white
Where do you buy the suit
Norm NOOOOOOO u left some plastic on
Anyone else notice the other armor in the background? Isn't that from Destiny?
