Oh wow!! That would be epic!! Remember The Beatles "Love" mash up album? Same idea, but take Pet Sounds and have the various songs sung / mashed up by different leads...Brian and Mike on "I'm waiting for the Day", Brian & Carl on "God Only Knows". I even think there's a take where Al sings lead on "Sloop John B"....even isolate Dennis's voice on "You Still Believe in Me". Oh my, someone has to do this!
I think we would have loved this song regardless of who sang it. Obviously, we are all used to hearing Brian's beautiful vocals. This is still a pretty good version, but I do miss Brian's falsetto at 2:02.
Mike wasn’t against the whole project. That’s an old wives tail. There were a few things he disagreed with but let’s be honest, Brian did some stuff that was disagreeable and other Beach Boys have said as much.
Mike gets a bad rap because he’s abrasive and because it’s a sin in music snob circles to steer toward the commercial over the critical. But he wasn’t necessarily wrong. By the time of Smile, Brian Wilson was farting around wasting time and money on making some maaterpiece that never came out (not counting the reconstructed release from the 2000s).
The greatest achievement from The Beach Boys they are the most refined vocal group in pop music history. I can't barely distinguish and I get a hard time to spot differences between each other voice I think is the reason they are so well blended together. Endless harmony, love and mercy!!
This is such a simplistic way of thinking. of course Mike is a villain in The Beach Boys canon! The fucker has been in court with Al and Brian since the death of Carl, trying to claim the lion-share of the copyright, and attacking and suing Al when he advertised himself as “Al Jardine Of The Beach Boys”

If you dig deep into some of the mid 70's concerts you can find a couple of the performances in which Dennis is the lead for this song. Really sounds beautiful too
I'm looking back with love at this attempt at Mike's vocals on. He sounds pretty darn good on certain stuff and then on certain stuff he sounds like a nasal girl. And I don't mean that negatively.
It’s just not the right song for him. On the Pet Sounds Sessions box set there’s also a track that has Brian’s vocals in place of Mike’s which were on the released album. In that case as well, the vocals are fine but it fits Mike’s style more than Brian’s.
I mean, Mike it's a nice background singer, and listen to this whole version makes me miss Brian's high voice, but is nice to hear that one voice complete other
I actually think Mike does a pretty good job, although if I were to make my own mix, I’d probably use both Brian and Mike’s vocals in sections. Not at the same time though, too cluttered.
Even though Mike Love has been, at times, very high on on the “D---bag Arse---ery Scale”, when he was committed to a project, he would get with the programme and do his best.
I dunno, Brians voice is just so beautiful with the vocals. And I cant stand when Mike goes "I'm waidun' for the day...". It just sounds so sloppy and gross. To me, this is a very crisp and pristine song, so I prefer Brian's crisp and pristine voice over Mike.
i'm not saying i prefer this version over brian's vocal,,, i really love brian's vocals on that song but if they refined his vocal a little bit more I think this version would fit very well on the record. Honestly, it would have been one of mike's best vocal performances.
This could not be further from the truth. His tone is another question, but Mike probably has the largest range of all the Beach Boys. He sang bass and baritone-tenor leads often, and showed he could hit Brian-esque falsetto (albeit not very pleasingly) in Sonny Love vs Cassius Wilson. Sure, he’s not belting high notes in full voice like Carl, Brian or Al, but if you take into account his lower range, it gives him quite an advantage.
I’d love to hear both Mike and Brian leads double-tracked, with each other.
get that Lennon-McCartney vibe!

There's something very unique in Love's voice.
Yes it's called "uniquely horrible"
@@MarkShapiroMusic lol why?

@@MarkShapiroMusic It’s not. Mike is a beautiful vocalist. This lazy Mike hate is so disgusting.

I would have liked to have heard Carl do this one.
yeah
Brian is superior to Carl for this song.
@@vincevirtua yep
Just like here today, each sang on the right song. Carl- g.o.k. Brian-this one & I just wasn’t made for these times. Mike- here today
As usual, Mike does the low parts brilliantly - but his deep voice can't cope with the high notes at the end.
I think we would have loved this song regardless of who sang it. Obviously, we are all used to hearing Brian's beautiful vocals. This is still a pretty good version, but I do miss Brian's falsetto at 2:02.
Mike did some of his best vocals on Pet Sounds. Coming from the guy who was pretty much as against the whole project.
as anybody I should have wrote.
He sang great on SMiLE too!

Excellence.
It sounds good with Mike singing.

All nine. Love that you didn't forget Bruce, David, Blondie, or Ricky
Just look at Dennis in this picture, never saw it before. Thanks!
I wish Dennis got to sing lead on this
That would be superb

Me too.
Oh, i want to hear that!
The bitterness of the lyrics would've been perfect for him

No one can sing a baseline like Mike Love....brilliant
its too! so good!!
Oh no
Edit: love that ending tho
same the ending was made for mike to sing it
Love it

Sounds good. But the original version is better.

as i like to say, he is a prick but gets the job done
Mike has a great voice but this song needed a higher vocal range. He's perfect on Here Today and That's Not Me.
Good version prefer Brian of course.
Love's nasel voice hurts my ear.
He doesn't sing nasally at all on this song
Not bad.
Interesting hmm
...and to think, Mike was dissing this album the whole time Brian was composing it. Brian is still the best for this song.
I’m sorry, but Mike’s singing on this is too sloppy and gross. I infinitely prefer Brian singing lead on the final album version.
Kermit?
This version should have been on the record.
Justin Puga because of the bratty sound.

I prefer Brian’s voice compared to Mike Love singing through his nose
You can hear the disdain in mikey's voice.

Mike has a very, very limited vocal range.

Mike Love is really dragging the chain and most likely knew it.
Weak comment.
