Can Oregon get any more beautiful!? I went to Becky's cafe a few years back over by the Rogue River and it was yummy! The area is so pretty and now I can't wait to get back there! Thanks.
Exactly! Our friends got pie from there - said it was delicious. Such a pretty area ~ we walked along the path from Farewell Bend to the Gorge and it was amazing! We usually do a 3 Oregon week trip each summer and this one's not looking so good... hang in there!
There are so many amazing campgrounds in these mountains ~ really wishing we were up there exploring right now! We are doing "ok" ~ healthy, but trying times. Hope you are well! Thank you :)
What a pity that so much of those areas burned in the 2020 fires. Whispering Falls was likely one of them. The Santiam Canyon was savaged by those fires. They weren't all started by lightning or accident.
We heard Whispering Falls burned - so very sad about that and the Detroit area. Whispering Falls was one of our all time favorites... we have family in Sweet Home & Foster Lake - they were inundated by the smoke. We live in Ventura, so had the Thomas Fire a few years back - lost 1000 homes. One that I lived in as a child. Another that we still owned luckily didn't burn - but part of the backyard did. Just so sad...
I wish I could, but we have always been on a time limit when in Oregon, so have only boondocked once or twice. Check out the National Forest roads, BLM website & Campendium.com. I did see a few good spots on Bex Cat Herder’s UA-cam channel - one at John Day, big hole in the ground & one at big crack in the ground. Our friends just drive on the forest roads to find good spots.
I just don’t get it. If you’re going to go through all that effort to creat a campground and clear out areas where campers can camp, would it be too much to go that extra mile and create sites that are at least level? I mean really.
I think a lot of these forest campgrounds were first cleared, designed & built with tent camping in mind. We are at one now where the size of the sites and the closeness of the trees, as well as overhanging branches clearly show this. Still cool though & we squeezed in & with our new RV!
