This is one of those tracks that makes me rethink what a synth jam can be -- that powerful and unique bass drum, the 7/4 time signature, and the awesome brass patch from the minifreak all create a wonderful piece of music. Bravo!
i love your videos. it's such a shame that in the world of "synthtube" most content nowadays just serves as a platform to show off gear. but your videos are first and foremost musical artpieces with good technique and beautiful progressions which happen to use and show some cool instruments. truly great!
Love me some prog time signatures with some randomness mixed in! Prog rock/metal fan yet late 80s synth kid. Your talent abounds. And thanks for the DAW vs hardware reminder that we don’t need to be wrapped up in Mac/PC, Coke/Pepsi, left/right and such. Keep it up. Happy New Year 🎉
As always an amazing jam. The drums feel so alive, almost like breathing and kind of liquid, if that makes sense? I don't know how else to describe it.
Amazing work. that broken glass/shattering sounding clap is NUTS. I just did some free drawing to this, your sonic works are extremely inspirational. 💖💖💖
That synth 🤤 oh how I would sit on notes selfishly without moving for bars and bars just so I get more impact in the chord change… 🤣 so lovely mate. I would love to jam with you whenever you are up for it! Hahaha maybe one day! Maybe!
Awesome Jam, Jay! And also a big "This" to the "Just use the tools you love to make the music you love" part. Great production and really really awesome sounds and flow. Happy New Year!
the bass is phenomenal🤯... Had an eye on the Erebus for a long time now, but I have to keep my GAS low ;-) Really great synth jam, though... enjoyed every bit! Thank you for sharing it!
Enigmatic, beautiful, swaying and rythmically glued together to what then becomes Hoskingianna Extraordinaire,- I love it ! How cool is it that we just got a six-voice polyphonic Freak with real velocity and aftertouch keys !? - So deff. gotta pick one up,- My worst nightmare , as a former drummer - has been to work with drums on Eurorack , and even Digitakt.... its...SO hard to get it "In the Pocket" swinging , with a human feel - and im amazed how you do it - seemingly effortless - though , i must admit - i prefer Sam on the real drums - .... and i have come to really like yoiur voice - and guitar playing - More "Pop songs" please , Jay ! 😉👌
Really amazing! I love the slow build up! I wonder if you can use the filter's open-ness to increase the randomness likelyhood of the glitches (I don't understand CV) but I did like how as the song went on the glitch FX seemed more likely. This video is a perfect example of why all pedals need top mounted jacks >:[
You can definitely route modulation into the IDUM to increase/decrease the probability of the glitches occurring! Here, I've got modulation on the type of glitch and the parameters of it, and am mainly turning up probability by hand, but I love the idea of modulating it. And thanks!
Happy New Year Jay! Really enjoyed this track (great drums, pads, bass...) 🤩and just wanted to say that I 100% share your point of view for this: "Debates about DAW vs. DAWless are fruitless. Just use the tools you love to make the music you love." 🤗
Happy new year! Your stuff is consistently inspiring, and I also love how awesome and supportive of a human you are as well. All the best to you in 2023!
Awesome! I'll have to experiment with tracking in VST instruments over live jams now. 🤔Do you usually mix your hardware jams in a DAW after recording, or just do a master?
Usually just a master unless a) I have multiple tracks to work with (e.g. didn't go through the Octatrack) and b) something is poking out in the mix that isn't right. And thanks!
It's on this album here: jayhosking.bandcamp.com/album/it-may-take-longer-than-you-think It will eventually make it to streaming services, but I usually stagger it by 6 months to a year.
The Arturia DrumBrute Impact. Affordable, sounds good (not perfect, though), lots of the basics, some fun performance stuff, and can grow with your growth.
@@JayHosking haha i get that. Hav you ever played with the Casio CZ series? Their Phase distortion synthesis can get very FM type sounds that to me are more musical. Anyway love watching your stuff man, super inspiring.
@@JayHosking theyre menu divers for sure (though nowhere near as tough to program as a DX) but if youve got the patience theyre super fun, itd be cool to see what you would get out of them.
Awesome jam, Jay. As a owner of the v3, do you think the new erebus is a upgrade soundwise? Despite the 3rd osc is missing, of course... Can't decide which one to buy.. Anyway thank you for this performance and keep it up ❤
I don't think it's a sound upgrade, no. It's based on the V2, which was a little grungier and I like a little more overall than V3, but I've heard amazing stuff with all of them. I just find the oscillators on the V3 are a little squirrelly and hard to keep in tune vs the reissue, which just stays put. And thanks!

this is giving me nine inch nails vibes! very cool jam :-)

Wow! Just wow haha! Love it Jay!
liking the Blade Runner accents.
Same. I really enjoyed the subtle quote.
amazing as always
This was so sick! Great jam brother!
Awesome Jay, I too find that riff irresistible:)
Amazing work. that broken glass/shattering sounding clap is NUTS. I just did some free drawing to this, your sonic works are extremely inspirational. 💖💖💖
Excellent work as usual. Love those progressions and your sense of melody
You said thanks for endulging you, no mate, thank YOU for making that for us. That was beautiful. Subscribed. 👍❤️
Wonderful jam🙏👍. And my point exactly!! Best of both Worlds👍🤩. Happy new Year🙏
Freking awesome. Love the 80s soundtrack vibes. 2:51 - Right on.
Great start to the year/end to the year. Wonderful!
wow just found you and subbed. Really amazing jam, love the Alien vibe
Wicked. Nice way to kick off 2023
Feeling some strong Alessandro Cortini vibes with this. But with complex rhythms! LOVE IT
Jay I love this one!

so lovely mate. I would love to jam with you whenever you are up for it! Hahaha maybe one day! Maybe!
This came out great! Really liking how you explore the full register of the mini freak keyboard
Holy freakness, that was amazing! Wonderful sounds and jam!
Beautiful sounds!

Absolutely epic! Every new composition you come up with is just so relaxing ❤
So good. Just love the feel of these pieces. Thanks!
Great job Jay 🙌🏻👏🏻
Minifreak such an incredible synth for its cost.
Love that drum loop.
Couldn't agree more about the MiniFreak. It's really an impressive synth.

Super sick jay!
This is good.
I like it.
More please.
Really amazing piece Jay!
Nice piece of music... thank's a lot, MiniFreak is soon mine. I use Reason too, notably Complex-1 ;-)
I love the Blade Runner melody, awesome!
Sounds really good!
Great work!
a beautiful place out in the country

Happy new year to you! And thanks!
Happy New Year Jay thanks for all the great music.💕💞
Great tune! Thanks
Goodlooking sound & synthesis! HNY!

so good thanks for sharing!
Oh yeah 🪘 👏🏿🎶
really nice!!!!
Oooh. Damn I want that drum-machine.
Ещё один шедевр!!!!
masterful...................................
Such a sweet pocket, and doing it in 7/8 was quite unexpected..............
Very HTDA I love it
Awesome
i'd love to see a tutorial video on how to recreate those patches on the minifreak
Спасибо ✨️
Happy New year guvnor
You too!
Epic grooving
nice track
And here I am!
serious frequencies.
Can you get your Minifreak to send scale midi info to other synths?
All the sequencer and arp features on the minifreak, is this info sent out trough the cv gate outputs??
I’m here

@@JayHosking Ah, thanks for the explanation!
Love the minifreak sound that you created! Do you remember which oscillators you used?
First was virtual analog, I think, and the second was NE Saw with an LFO on one of its parameters. And thanks!
İş güzel, yorumlar da güzel, herkesi tebrik ederim.
is this on spotify ?

Hey Jay, one question - what kind of drum device would you recommend for a person that is beginner on synths?
The Arturia DrumBrute Impact. Affordable, sounds good (not perfect, though), lots of the basics, some fun performance stuff, and can grow with your growth.
@@JayHosking Thanks.
Vanjaylis
My name is Vanjaylis, and I approve of this message
Fruitless. Unless your using Fruity loops. Great work.
Hah!
Minfreak is litteraly eaten by the erebus.
all that eurorack stuff to do what a digitakt can do better and much cheaper
Is there any gear that you CANT make sound amazing? lol
I can never make FM synthesis sound how I want!
