This guy was similar enough to Hagar that the transition wouldn't have been too jarring, yet unique enough in style (both singing and songwriting) that this incarnation could have gone in it's own direction. Not been just a throwback. The sky could have been the limit with Malloy. They screwed up with that MTV stunt and lost him. They really screwed the pooch. And they never really recovered from it.
As a huge fan of all VH, I think no matter who came in after Hagar the VH mega-run was over! IMO VH III was decent with Cherone! To me it’s not all about the front man! I just dig the VH sound! @@chaddrumm6809 I respect your right to have your own opinion. From my point of view, Cherone was a terrible fit for Van Halen. Not a bad guy, and actually a genuine talent, it just did not mesh. What he did just did not inspire songs that worked. And he did not seem to have the kind of energy that got through to EVH like Roth or Hagar that inspired EVH to make music that did work. By that point, however, it also seems like the VH brothers were no longer capable of listening to anyone and locked on a crash course to failure. I now wish they'd gone with Mitch Malloy and that I'd heard this for the first time about 5 years ago! And as for Eddie, it still kills me that we lost someone so lyrical, rhythmical and brilliant so early. Note perfect and sooo in sync with Alex.
Something about Van Halen I can't quite put my finger on. It's like they were underachievers. Eddie Van Halen was simultaneously the greatest guitarist ever who reinvented the wheel, yet he seemed to lack drive as time went on. They put out little material past the early 90s, and he had a miniscule presence and output outside the band. its like into the 80s with Sammy Hagar he started wasting his efforts on juvenile and campy songs where he came up with a blistering riff, and the rest of the guys gave him 'Poundcake' to work with. I feel a lot of potential was wasted. I feel like if you put Eddie Van Halen in a band like Marillion or give him Steve Overland on vocals, where there's no egos anymore, Van Halen could have and should have been so much bigger and better than it was, which is saying a lot with them being a top 10 all time rock band. If you want to get where I am coming from listen to "Hooks in You" by Marillion, or "Hot Wired" by FM.
I was thinking along those same lines, but more 80's teen comedy movie when the main actor goes through their serious transformation and becomes a better person.
He goes incredibly (unusually) open throat with his vowels when he's belting. That's what I notice. He's a good singer, no doubt. Like it or not, this is PURE "Van Hagar".
@@jacksonmiller6679 Actually, by walking out onto the MTV award stage with DLR, they did let MM go... Any musician who is a decent human being would have talked to a lead singer they were about to bring in the band and explain what was about to happen. They did not consider Mitch when they made the decision to do it and, essentially, sent him on his way.
@@michaelwill7811 They were pressured by MTV and management. The reason Mitch left was because that stunt caused people to believe DLR would make a comeback in the band which wouldn't be good for Mitch at all.

I imagine VH was being pressured into a DLR reunion. Mitch might have helped VH into a similar direction as Sam Halen. Unfortunately VH had a turmoil label put upon them after 2 lead vocal changes in 10 years, at this particular time. We're Blessed to have our Lps, 8-tracks, cassettes and CDs. RiP eddie van Halen 1955 to october 6th 2020 :(
I now wish they'd gone with Mitch Malloy and that I'd heard this for the first time about 5 years ago! And as for Eddie, it still kills me that we lost someone so lyrical, rhythmical and brilliant so early. Note perfect and sooo in sync with Alex.
great song
Listen to the fade out ....😮🎤
I can not believe I did not know about this until today
Great VH tune
Reminds me of Dance The Night Away.
Dance the night away blows this song out of the water IMO.
Sounds like an intro to every 80s sitcom
After-School Special lol Well, you can’t win ‘em all. There’s a couple of these for every Jump or Right Now
Sounds like balls....
😂
I was thinking along those same lines, but more 80's teen comedy movie when the main actor goes through their serious transformation and becomes a better person.
"80s sitcom": this song is ruined for me now lol
First time hearing this. Wow, VH sure blew it.
wow that was great, to bad it never could make an album together.
He goes incredibly (unusually) open throat with his vowels when he's belting. That's what I notice. He's a good singer, no doubt.
Like it or not, this is PURE "Van Hagar".
2:13 you’re welcome
You're into plastic?
What could’ve been. *sigh*
I know they should of kept mitch
Fuck why did they let him go
@@jacksonmiller6679 Actually, by walking out onto the MTV award stage with DLR, they did let MM go... Any musician who is a decent human being would have talked to a lead singer they were about to bring in the band and explain what was about to happen. They did not consider Mitch when they made the decision to do it and, essentially, sent him on his way.
After seeing him front Great White I'd say nothing was lost. This was not the guy. He just sounds like every 80s power ballad singer.
@@michaelwill7811 They were pressured by MTV and management. The reason Mitch left was because that stunt caused people to believe DLR would make a comeback in the band which wouldn't be good for Mitch at all.
Eddie would have done the amazing, catching lightning in a bottle for the 3rd time, Bummer
The world was right to want Dave back.
Agreed!
@@runnersdialzero1244 Dave's voice was shot. Even back then. Roth didn't take care of his voice, and the results show today.
Any chance of a 3rd singer was ruined when they walked on stage with Roth at the MTV awards in 1996
100% CORRECT!!!

Melody and lyrics by you’re truly. And melody is very much music. ;)
Here s to evh!
Mitch malloy would have been an amazing fit for van halen
too poppy, like can't stop loving you
Love this song. There was another version out that was faster, but I can’t find it anymore.
Music, an Emotional Time Machine, ✌
This would have been an amazing lineup, this song shows it, would’ve been more fun, rather than the somewhat depressing album we got with VH3. RIP Eddie, I’m just glad this song got out.

It would have bombed just as much too. Ed wasn't in the right state mentally when he was working on the VH3 album.
Great
love if mitch collaborated a song or two with Wolfie
Mitch Malloy got a really good voice. Who's knows what could have happened!
It's interesting that they apparently used this song for the auditions of both Malloy and Cherone, each bringing their own set of lyrics to it
What might have been...his voice is great and we would have slayed the Sammy stuff, but I think his era in VH would have suffered the same fate as Gary Cherone’s era. It’s a shame, this is a great tune.
Huy que buen cantante!!!! Y este? Quien es? Buenísimo
The only thing lacking is a killer Eddie guitar solo at 2:22.
As much as I love Eddie’s killer solos, I love the instrumental break in this song.
And Mikey's background harmonies.
Van Halen 2 with Malloy Wolfy Mikey and Alex. That would be killer!!!
No . To sad missing the key ingredient .
If they would’ve never done the mtv awards with Roth in 96, I think Malloy would’ve had a shot😞
It seems like anybody that performs with VH, will actually adjust and will sound great inside, since every instrument in there is very well calibrated to always be the best sound and in perfect tune👍
Where this song came from? Gd jb
A good pick
Wow
Damn cool.
This would be a great song for an "Add an Eddie-esque solo to this" guitar player contest.
They should bring him back. Great song!
Too late for that!
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
yes what could have been...
Was that English?
@@detroitdiezel7856 yes...they sing in english
Fucking awesome...way better than That's Why I Love Ya. I just love Edward's playing during this period so powerful and contemporary and proves that Eddie is more than a "rock" guitarist.
:)
thats why i love you all day over this
This was actually the riff for another demo song that almost made Van Halen 3 called “That’s Why I Love You”
Cool rare videos
