Pinkie does seem like a worthy candidate being the organised pony that she is. She would probably be more open to befriending Discord than the skeptical Twilight. I also anticipate her becoming best friends with Trixie with the two of them pacifying the Ursa Minor together. If AJ were hospitable to every new pony, she would've treated Discord to some apple pies and not primarily suspect him of the plunderseeds. I doubt she would give up her farm for the title of Princess. Would be interesting to see how other ponies would tackle Starlight Glimmer as she changes the timelines. We should call for a "Secrets of Starlight" TV series starring Starlight Glimmer. If Cadence were a main character, I'm sure she would find better grounds than babysitting the Crystal ponies. We already know how Starswirl met the other Pillars from the comic series "Legends of Magic" courtesy of Stygian. There are several mysteries for another day. The most unlikely protagonist I would want to see is Lightning Dust on her quest to rebuild her career, while making true friends.
I can see them going a direction that they have already done in the past. Pinkie Pie was the main character and leader of the Party 7 of Generation 3. But honestly I'm kind of scared to give the Kingdom of Equestria to Pinkie Pie in generation 4.

Plus we might finally get the long-awaited meetings of Babs seed with spike and Babs seed with Gabby. Especially if the story forced spike to make friends with others his own age. I mean, he could still have a crush on rarity, something that as Lauren Foust has pointed out, is like a kid having a crush on their babysitter.

Nightmare Moon scatters the shards of the sixth element across the world. As she does, she curses the sixth element such that it may never be in one piece again. Her reign of darkness lasts a couple of seasons, while the five and their sisters journey in search of the shards, and for those who could use them. The first element shard they find is held by a disabled flightless orange pegasus filly who can now somehow shoot lasers from her eyes. This mysterious filly quickly befriends the two youngest questers of the party.
Originally back in My Little Pony Friendship is Magic when Twilight took Starlight in as her apprentice I though of the time that later in the series that she will become an Alicorn just like Twilght as a fifth princess but unfortunely that never have happen.
I think seeing cadence as a main character would've been cool seeing her struggle with princess responsibilities while taking care of kids similar to how spider man struggles with a normal life and being a superhero
A lot of merchandise - especially party supplies and baby stuff - only feature 3 of the mane 6 - Twilight, Raindow, and Pinkie. It's pretty clear they are the mane 3, so if Twilight wasn't the main character, it would have been Rainbow or Pinkie. And from the start of the series, Rainbow had the goal to become a wonderbolt. They would have built the series around that. Pinkie was also written as a comic relief side-kick. I doubt she would have been the main character.
I love starlight she’s my favourite pony, I don’t think I could ever see her as a main character, I want to see her own journey, I would never want her to become an alicorn I love the idea of her being the most powerful unicorn. I wish we had more of her,
Is it just me or should Fluttershy should have been the princess of animals........ Just think about it she all about help the different animals and help some animals change for the better.... And her cute market is about animals if there a queen of love and there a queen of the sea and a princess of the sun and princess of the moon and princess of friendship/ magic and there a baby alicorn who problems the princess of family. you would think there might be a princess of animals to keep is balance of nature it self so that animals would not go crazy.she could have had more episode of redeeming the villain...just think about it

That’s the thing about main characters. You need them to relate to the audience. Sunset shimmer made mistakes, but eventually found her way, which is relatable, Rainbow Dash has a goal to be a wonderbolt and she’s athletic also relatable,fluttershy is shy and goes through many episodes, trying to find ways to Manage her anxiety and learn how to meet new people but she doesn’t fully change She’s also the most relatable, pinkie pie just wouldn’t fit it
Pinkie would never be the new princess it’s very unlikely as you know she is not very intelligent as twilight she probably wouldn’t want to be doing princess stories
