Love Candice always putting out the truth! Slavery is a horrible and awful thing to be done to any culture and should be condemned by all people! It is a shame that history is being distorted and twisted into lies and half truths. The good old saying is " A country that fails to learn from their past is doomed to repeat it". God created all equal and all he ever wanted is for us to all love each other.
It's good to see that the truth is out there. If only those who are uneducated would believe this, tensions might be lower.

I think one of the main misconceptions is that "black Africans" were a thing... Sub-Saharan Africa was a melting pot of hundreds, if not thousands, of different tribes, often at war with each other. They didn't have a common " black" identity. They identified as a member of their particular tribe and the rest where the "others". To be conquered, feared, avoided... Or enslaved.
Why get pissed at the truth! Gid bless her for exposing the truth about slavery. Since none of you all paid any attention during world history.
Slavery has been around for as long as society has existed. Some of the oldest written records, including Hammerabi's Code, have references to slaves, and those came from north Africa and the Middle East. And it's a fact that the first major efforts to end slavery - not just on a local scale, but globally - were championed by whites.
That movie that came out a couple years ago, The Woman King? Completely inaccurate. The tribe in the movie, the Dahomi, were slavers and raiders who conquered their neighbors to sell and sacrifice. Europeans actually forced them to stop doing that.
I hear all those stuff about reparations, and all I ask is if the people demanding it will demand it from the Africans whose ancestors captured and sold them to begin with. And if that's the case, then when's the Middle East gonna pay me for enslaving my people?

sorry to say it but slavery was around before the israelites were released as slaves from egypt. and egypt was mostly black leaders. and that was over 4000 years ago.

Recent DNA evidence shows that ancient Egyptians are descendants of peoples from the middle east and are more related to Israelite's that migrated to egypt more than 5,000 years ago...Egyptians are not of Sub-Saharan African Decent....So they are not actually Black...Just because Egypt has a lot of black people now, doesn't mean that they were always black. Just like how Will Smiths wife's inaccurate portrayal of Cleopatra makes her "Documentary" more Fantasy Revisionist BS.
Also she does mention that slavery has been around for as long as man has existed...She didn't say that Slavery was invented by the Egyptians. She has to stop as some point in history or it just becomes an endless list of ancient forgotten civilizations that no one really cares about.
I was born in Africa and it's true there's still slavery over there like in Ghana and Uganda. It's also true that whites were the first in world history to abolish slavery. Name another place that ended it before the US state of Vermont did in the year 1777, I'll wait.

William the Conquerer abolished slavery within mainland Britain around 1080.
Anyone that knows history knows all of this. She is not telling anything news breaking. That still doesn't excuse slavery in America, which is the only thing I'm concerned about. It still doesn't excuse the almost 90 years of Jim-Crow laws and practices.

@@thelastkiwi Maybe to you what is done is done. That's easy to say from your standpoint. Black people have been marginalized and oppressed since the days of slavery, and it hasn't stopped. Not even the civil rights bill changed that. When I educate people on the entire African Diaspora, their mouths drop open. So much is left out. The usual reaction is that they didn't realize how much was kept away from them.

Hammerabi's Code, one of the earliest surviving texts, talks about what to do with slaves. And that was Middle East.

5% of the Trans Atlantic slaves or about 360,000 black slaves came to what would become America. The rest went to Mexico, south America, etc. In comparison, 1.5 million Germanic/white slaves were captured by black, north African and middle east pirates in medieval times. Almost 5 times as many as the blacks that were bought in African slave markets. Those slave markets were run by blacks and middle eastern Muslims. The same kind of people that enslaved black Africans, had just previously enslaved Germanic tribes people and those along the coast. The same kind of people are selling black Africans TODAY for about $600 each in Libya. If the left hated the enslavement of blacks then why silent about the current 2,000,000 in Africa today? It is JUST about power and money and getting it through racial hatred.

You show that you are not a student of history by your comment. All slavery is abhorrent. But a study of history shows good and bad slave owners abounded throughout history and cultures. The books of Genesis and Exodus even provide examples of both types.
She literally said that none white countries took it to a new level. Twice as many now as when it was legal in the south and none of them in white countries. If that makes you sad or mad oh well. Truth is inconvenient for you 😅😅😅

It's common knowledge that white Europeans, followed by white Americans, were the first nations in history to formally abolish slavery.
It's also common knowledge that white Americans engaged in some of the most horrific forms of slavery ever inflicted on others, as it was not only chattel, nearly inescapable, and generational, but also based on such a debased version of racism, that black people were formally and medically considered to be subhuman. Slavery has always existed, it's always been exploitative, but American slavery still ranks among the worst non-genocidal human atrocities in history.
Let's also not forget that while hundreds of thousands of white union soldiers did die fighting slavery, hundreds of thousands of white confederate soldiers also died defending it, this did not happen to anything close to this degree in Europe.
Candice makes a token point about nobody being guiltless, but if you're going to talk about the atrocities of slavery, you can't just gloss over the role of American white people.
She is however, absolutely right about modern slavery which still exists, and while it's largely not Chattel slavery, where the state is legitimizing slavery by legally declaring humans as property, it is still horrendous and shocking that so many people live under some form of slavery today. She's right that it isn't talked about, and I think it should be a global agenda item, more important even than global poverty agenda or climate change agenda. Human slavery should be tackled by the UN as item #1, and it's tragic that it's not. I would even agree that it's a much more important and relevant topic when discussing slavery than the history and result of American slavery specifically is, because it is still ongoing.
That was her broken clock moment though, because after that when she goes into how the reason that people talk about the consequences of slavery is because they are evil, greedy, race baiting, black victimhood peddlers, is just some of the dumbest, most disingenuous nonsense she could say. The fact that white people did end slavery, doesn't mean they didn't perpetrate it, it doesn't explain how it got so bad that it took 100 years of de-programming white racism before black people were given equal rights, and it absolutely does not mean that slavery doesn't have huge economic and cultural consequences which persist to this very day, and directly impact peoples lives and well being.
Nobody is guiltless, not even Candice Owens.

No, pretty sure what the Middle Easterns, Africans, and native americans did was worse. And it's not like whites invented the whole "other people are subhuman" mindset - they just started associating it with skin color. The first slaves in America were Irish, and the first slaveowner of African slaves was black.
