2013-16 sound a lot better than the older one which they used in the newer ones as well. It just sounds better to hear a softer tone than a arcade everytime I start my vehicle
they still use the soft tones, the video was showing incorrectly, they use the older tone when the car battery is too low to power the speakers or if the speaker audio system hasn't started up yet.
You don't quite have it right. The previous wave of Lincoln products, including the 2013-present MKZ, 2015-2019 MKC, 2017-present Continental, 2016-present MKX/Nautilus, and 2018-present Navigator...all have the same chime you show in your "2013-2016" section. Normally, they play that radio-generated chime. However, in the following situations, it will resort to the simpler cluster chime, which is present in your "2010-2012" and "2017-present" sections: 1. The central computer sends a signal to "chime" and the audio system isn't booted up and ready to receive that signal 2. There's a communication issue with the audio system on the car's internal network 3. The car needs to chime during an engine-off scenario, such as when the headlights are on and the door is open, and the battery is low (to prevent starting up the audio system) So that was the case with the 2017 Continental you showed in your final scene. Under normal circumstances, it would have emitted the same "new age" chime as the 2013-2016 MKZ you showed in the previous scene...but due to one of the above reasons, it instead relied upon the cluster. I have no idea why the FoMoCo vehicles have this limitation, because lots of other companies (Honda, VW Group, BMW Group, Subaru, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia) have at least some vehicles with radio-generated chimes...and they don't have to resort to a cluster-generated chime at all, ever. Starting with the 2020 Aviator and 2020 Corsair, Lincoln has a brand new set of chimes performed by the Detroit Symphony.
Holy cow - thanks!! My 2017 MKZ began making the simpler chime noise last night and I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why! I saw this video and it's inaccuracy and began to think I was going crazy! Your explanation makes perfect sense to me - I'll begin looking into those three possibilities right away! Thanks!
I honestly wish the cluster and radio generated lincoln chime were the exact same tune. For some reason the cluster chime is 4 notes while the radio generated one is 3.
I own a 2018 Fusion and I can confirm that there are random instances where the cluster only does the chimes. It's strange to sometimes start the car and hear a completely different chime than I usually do. I also think it's worth mentioning that using applications such as Forscan, it is possible to code the IPC module (cluster) to only play chimes through the cluster itself and not through the audio system, if you wanted that for some reason. Otherwise, the chimes will attempt to be played through the APIM module. It is interesting though that the radio doesn't have to be functioning for the chimes to play. There have been instances in my own vehicle where the radio is completely frozen up and non-functional, but the chimes still play just fine.
@@mcallihan100 Yeah. Ngl I honestly find the cluster chimes in Lincoln and Ford to be kinda creepy, plus Lincoln's cluster chime has 4 notes while the radio-generated one has 3. They also just don't sound finished. I honestly thought they fixed this issue in later models but apparently they haven't. A 2021 Ford F-150 still had the cluster chimes.
The Geeks Lincoln also makes the Ford veichles similar but change the design of the car headlights, taillights, and the interior. So basically Lincoln just put there stuff on the car
Lincoln should’ve keep the MKZ and change the name to the Zephyr with the symphonic chimes. That nice pizzicato violins and marimba melody is a really nice way to start your commute.
The '2017-Present' is actually a Continental, and the actual MKZ has the same chime as the '2013-2016' section, so it's really the '2013-Present' section.
Both the model year and the source are wrong. AutoVlog was the channel that posted that POV drive onto UA-cam, not Winding Road Magazine. You can see that the Instagram plug isn't cut off all the way. You wouldn't see that in any of Winding Road's videos. ua-cam.com/video/6r83grKyHH0/v-deo.html
Tbh, Ford, and Lincolns chime are the same. The Lincoln chime from 2010-2012 is literally the first ford chime from the 2010s, while the 2013-2016 lincoln Chime is the same as the one for the 2019-present day fords (And btw, ford owns lincoln)
Tourette TV A door chime is one of the first things you hear when you first step into a car and therefore can sometimes possibly foreshadow the experience that you are about to have in said car.
