What about if the shingles already in place and some of them for some reason overhang the gutter by a large amount? Is there a saw or cutter i can use in situ?
Hardware stores sell a hooked blade knife for that. Olfa knife works well too. The method I discovered is just because I had literally 100s of cuts to make.
+Eric Downs We fit a bit outside the box on this one. The rural municipality we live in specifically set up this "eco-village" without the requirements of zoning, permits, etc. Meeting code on utility services is the only requirement. We are also building mortgage free - which keeps the requirements of meeting building code to a minimum. We still follow code - to the best that we can with a building style that doesn't exist in the books :)...yet!
For a handful or edge cuts definitely. When doing a 4000 sq ft round roof needing several bundles cut in 1/2 and 1/3rds - enough to cover 1/2 the roof - you need a faster method with clean edges.
I need to cut a long line on my roof for a repair. I'm using a circular saw. Hook blade won't work. Circular saw will be safer faster. I'm using an old saw and blade. Prepared to throw away both.
If you mean 2 blades that were so rusty and dull they'd smoke when you tried cutting wood...then yes. I used thdm to cut 200 shingles in that condition. Suppose you have a better use for old blades?
Damn good time saver be safe out there sir

I use my lawnmower turned upside down with the mulching attachment removed.
..riiight, I take the tires off my truck, then sharpen the rims...cuts like butter. =oD
Hahaha, me too! I figured it would catch on more though.
I'd like to see a video update of the house. Did you have any obstacles with building permits or requirements?

This would work amazing for cutting the roof caps fast. Thanx for the tip.
hook blades are cheap!

So you ruined 2 blades...
