Since it seems we were reading comics about the same time, I'm wondering if you ever read Nabiel Kanan's Exit - which had a brief self published run, and then a short run at Caliber. He got really experimental with his page layouts and storytelling choices, which he moved away from in his later work.
This seems both very timely and quite ahead of its time. During the episode, I started paying more mind to the backgrounds and energy effects than the characters. The inspirations are pretty clear and work well. The dialogue seems wry and dryly clever, and that's a bonus, but also part and parcel to why the book works, I'd imagine. I laughed aloud at the Rocky Horror reference, and shall now go find a popular 80's playlist in hopes that my daily chores will be dispatched with the verve of a rousing montage. You are an absolute doll. Much gratitude.
Growing up in a fairly rural border town i was lucky to find the latest Marvel or DC books. It wasn't until the 90s I found independent titles. Here's another good one i missed. Great video, buddy!
Im glad you revisited this series in a new video. The style of this book has honestly fascinated for a while and ive also been loving comics that take stands against grim gritty stories.
In terms of the usual digital comic locations (l1bgen, anna's ect) I can find Nerve issue 1, Go-man 1-4, and all the calibre presents issues. It seems nerve 2 and 3 are not easy to find.
I recently re-read Go-Man while I was sorting through my comic book collection last year, and it was just as quirky and fun as I remembered when it first came out.
i remember you talking about this in a previous video. hope one day the nerve comic series is uploaded online or a collection of all the stories is printed.
A personal favorite of mine is Barry Blair's Gun Fury and Gun Fury Returns. It mixes goofiness of Adam West's Batman with the 80's Action Movie thrillers of the Punisher pretty well while also making constant fun of Claremont's X-Men
After watching, I caught myself thinking of XTC’s late 70’s take on the 60’s “All Along the Watchtower.” Realized they took a serious song then and installed a bizarre fun in it, opposite of the comics but just as poignant.
Heavy Metal was a hit and miss (mostly the latter) for me, but Matt Howarth had series called "Changes" that reminds me of the tone of this, the enthusiasm and vitality you mention. Also like this, the main characters of that series, the Post Brothers, kinda lost their focus when they got their own book.
Some of this style also make me think of "SCUD: Disposable Assassin"
Honestly, I love the art style in Go Man. Thanks for sharing this!
I can't help but wonder what impact Go-Man would have had on '90s comics if the comic had a more successful run and reached a wider audience.

Go-Man was a winner
I know that he is missed
Thanks SBP
All thanks go to Bill Widener for writing and drawing the comic that I enjoyed discussing.
Never even heard of this one. Thank you for bringing some much deserved attention!

Thank you. You're quite the doll yourself.

I always thought it'd be interesting for you to cover the rise and fall of EC comics. Think it'd make for an interesting video
This looks like a great comic I'd like to read. I don't think you need to apologize for the art; it's snappy, economical, and readable as hell.
Really nice art style. Hopefully Go-man comes back one day...
I would like to see that. I'd like to see it reprinted too.
Wow, I'm actually very into the art. Very slick.

After all of the hype that you gave this series, I was dying to know what it's like. It does not disappoint. Thanks Alan.

i started to read it since the last video, i like the tone of it
Hey do you know where I can read the comic online becaue I’ve been struggling to find it
Shocked I’ve never heard of this. Awesome pull
Love the obscure stuff, nicely done

Always love it when this channel introduces me to a super-cool comic I’ve never heard of. Thanks for the vid!
I hope you can find it and enjoy it!

You should do a video about 1988 comic series, The Last Generation from Black Tie studios

Fantastic video.
11:25 How persisting and correct these statements are.
I would have loved this if I knew it was out. Unfortunately I don’t think my shop had much from Caliber press
Finally, Allan Cassavettes, the Lisan al Gaib of quirky comic books, has come back for the 300th video of Strange Brain Parts.
It seems like this comic forecasts the comics of the 90s. The writer really saw where the grim and gritty 80s was leading.
Go-Man really deserves a trade paperback.
@StrangeBrainParts is there a place where I can read the story it seems really interesting and I’ve had a hard time finding it.
I need this comic and the art is fucking sick!!!
Can't find this digitally anywhere; anyone know where to look for it?
Go Man looks oddly familiar
Trying to find the comic, anyone track it down?
Strange Brain Parts Have you ever read any of Billy Tucci's comics like Shi?
I don't know if you want to review The Eltingville Club, i'm not forcing you to review it, just do it if you want to
The TV Guidance Counselor podcast just did an almost three hour long interview with Evan Dorkin, should that be of interest.
@@noneofyourbusiness4616 Okay cool
Does anyone else think that Lynn looks like Desire of the Endless? Was this on purpose, or does Go Man predate Gaiman's world?
Lyn predates Sandman by about a year or two. And Desire's first appearance by a few years, I believe. So, it's coincidental.
Is there any way to read it online?
Do some searching I found it pretty quickly

@@nothanksbro4525 that may be what I found too but it’s been a few months I can’t remember
Have there been other Disposable Heroes of the Hiphoprisy references on this channel? I feel that there has been…
How do I get you to review my comic? PO Box?
I do not have a PO Box. I'm an obscure UA-camr. I can't afford extras.
Poignant for today. Poignant.
